General / Off-Topic I used to have a phobia of music.

Not making this up. I used to be downright terrified of anything with a rhythm.

Fancy going from that, to discovering metal, and now, my mum has suggested I take up the drums. I like the sound (huh, puns) of that.

I don't really have much going for me but I do really, really, really love music, especially metal. If I try it, well, who knows what could happen?

Obviously I'm fully aware that metal is for later, but it's a goal. Maker knows I need those.

My daughter is non-verbal, but pitch perfect with songs and music. She only has to hear a thing once, and suddenly (sometimes days later) she'll be singing it to herself.

Also, here is my random factoid for the evening - Stonehenge was designed to amplify sound waves (especially drums) to points around the centre (like when you have a stereo source it's louder when the waves amplify).

Music is cool.

Why I was put into a state of panic when I heard music... Not too sure. Weird.

The first rhythm we hear is the heartbeat of our mothers in the womb.

When in a heightened state of sensitivity (anxiety/'tabs', mushrooms etc), musical rhythm can actually alter your stride, your heartbeat to a certain extent. They don't call it a pulse for nothing! I'm guessing you felt this pull and deeply felt dragged by it, felt a little loss of control?

If you drum, you get to boss the rhythm not be dictated to by the rhythm. Percussion is powerful, tribal. I think that it could be a good move for you (from what I know of you) and lesser any effects still further.

Singers and guitarists think it's all about them. Nah. It's all about the beat :D

Un1kOrn you are always trying to start a conversation on the Forum to get a response. Still what you do at times makes for a good conversation.

Drums are for young guys who with two hands and two feet can control all of this with their brain. Are you a young guy? Wind instruments are easier to do but can be complex hitting all the notes in a chord in a short passage. The piano is the ultimate expression with chords but is the most complex. Retired now I once had a recording studio so I know talent when I saw it. I've always promoted great musical talent so they could excel later with their abilities.

I being older play Jazz piano with my version of great tunes from the '40s. Maybe not worth any human listening to but when I play my three dogs gather around like I'm in a Disney animated movie with Snow White eventually showing up. Who do you want to move with your music?

Regards

Honestly, even the doctors have recommended drums to me. I think it's time to take them up on that.

The curse of being stuck inside all day mate. I don't get to talk to many people IRL because everyone is at work, and stuff.

I appreciate that, but it doesn't help my loneliness. I know it's not healthy, but this forum is often all the human contact I have.

Really not looking for sympathy. I just have to be blunt. I often have two choices. Say nothing or post here. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. :/

Meeting people is overrated. :p

I'm perfectly normal*, and I have no friends, and I basically don't like anyone I meet.

Yet I'm perfectly fine, and often very happy about that.
Chatting on this forum is about as much socialising as I can take. :p

*I have been known to have conversations with my cat. What's worse is she wins arguments.

As for music, I used to hate all music with lyrics. Being somewhere on the spectrum, I didn't understand what the hell they was on about, and just preferred the music without the annoying talking.

Ironically, there is now a lot of music which is basically just talking over a tune. Lol

I have an electric guitar I can't play. So maybe we should start a band. Lol

Interesting! I love music, but similarly don't like lyrical music. Basically I don't like songs - which I know sounds absurd! :)
For me because I love music so much the superficial element of rational meaning encoded in words get's in the way of the much more profound appeal of the raw components of music - tone, pitch, rhythm, harmony, dynamic etc. That seems to speak to a part of the mind much deeper than that dealing with language.
I enjoy composing orchestral music and had fun doing that orchestral rearrangement of the old Elite 2 theme a few years back. Seemed to go down quite well on the forums here too. Much prefer composing my own stuff though!

Uni I got a lot of time for you. You helped me config my Speedlink Quinox. You seem to be struggling with everyday...erm things. Please do yourself a favour and get down to a Brazillain Jiu Jitsu, or MMA or Muay Thai gym. You may be lucky and have it all under one roof. Gracie Barra or 10th Planet. These two gyms have schools all over the UK and are legit killers and real nice people. I mean so nice you will get your faith back in humanity. 10th planet founded by Joe Rogan's best mate and staunch flat Earther Eddie Bravo lol

Do it man and those bullies, well give it a few months and you'll be choking them out.
