Sell me a "big three" ship

The big 3 are really only used for CG. The conda has the additional use of being my engineering vessel as it is fast at zipping between them, then just transfer the required modules

I'm a large ship player through and through. I do enjoy some of the mediums too, but none of the small.

1. Anaconda

I turned mine into a miner. Good cargo space and enough distributor juice to keep 4 mining lasers going. Still have 4 other hardpoints left to defend myself. Tons of limpets to gather stuff. But it also served me well as a freighter and battleship before I had all 3. To this day the Conda wields the best firepower in the game. The T-10 may have one hardpoint more, but the distributor is two sizes smaller, seriously limiting it. Last not least, if so desired the Anaconda is the ship with the best possible jumprange in the game.

2. Corvette

Battleship second in firepower only to the Anaconda. Bit tricky to find a good weapon loadout, but then it's great. Balanced mix of maneuverability, shielding and firepower, dominating any res or CZ. Can't chase enemies, but does not need to with long range weaponry, and for chasing there's the fighter. With huge multicannons twice the staying power of a quad dakka FdL, because ammo is consumed far slower. Silly regeneration with biweaves, and dual banking support when the going gets too rough. You could trade and mine in one even better than in an Anaconda, but seriously ?

3. Cutter

Now that ship plays in an own league entirely. The distributor is a notch worse than one the other two, but if you find a low powered long range weapon setup for it, it's great. Just don't confine it to a res. The ship is fast but not very maneuverable, it needs unrestricted space to make the most of it. Plus it's the only large ship (besides the Beluga) not plagued by small hardpoints. Most importantly it is a moving fortress. It's shielding is second to none. Even when set up for full cargo it can easily rival the shields of a Corvette. And of course, trading. 760t max cargo with shield dwarfs everything else. Also nothing except a T-10 masslocks you. And the T-10 you can outrun.

There, enough salesman pitch ? :D

Sure, don't take what I say too seriously, but it is a fact that the Conda (and the Python, Asp, Cobra...) doesn't have any serious problems preventing it from doing pretty much anything. Some love it for it, some find that boring.

To me it looks like the OP doesn't like to handicap himself and fly the more quirky ships. That's fine. That suggests to me he might very well enjoy the Anaconda. I tried twice and went back to my Type-7.

I avoided big ships for a long time... I play mostly for the BGS and a lot of systems in my area are outpost-only so it won't work for them.

However, if I ever find myself trading between two big stations, I pull out the cutter. Likewise, if I want to grind out some RES bounties to hand in to a different system, I pull out the Anaconda (it's cheaper to deck out for battle than the cutter, and way more maneuverable). It just needs some closer ship management.

]You answered your own question, if you don't need one don't buy one[/B]. The only thing missing from your setup is a ship that can haul over 500 tonnes and carry a fighter. If it doesn't interest you, save your credits.

Personally I like to mix things up, fly all ranges of ships and customise them for certain roles. In a T-10 or Cutter I can haul 400/500+ tonnes cargo whilst carrying out an assination mission, carry a GU97, SRV and still have room for other toys. The big ships are basically mobile bases, you don't get that same flexibility from small or med pad ships.

Python is a great multi role though, just limited, only main plus point is medium pads, not an issue considering the amount of large pad ports in the galaxy, absolutely dwarfs med pad only stations.

If anything I'd say get an Anaconda freighter build, use it as a storage barge for all your engineered stuff, make it a project to slowly do up. The Anaconda is great for long range community goal haulage.

The reason to get into the big boys is, only the big boys offer enough space to fit everything together if you choose to with no reason to docking and changing modules and all that hassle. Fit a multipurpose one and go, you're done. Second reason to get into big boys is, unmatched raw shield/armor/masslock/cargo capacity. If these interest you, you must get into one.

On a sidenote, I thought I would forever keep the Anaconda as my home base. I did, for a while. Then I decided to unlock the Corvette just for the kicks. It even looked like Anaconda offered more firepower than the Corvette before. Oh boy, only then I realized how 439 year old rusty bucket called Anaconda was that and also a pain and an eyesore to fly. Turned the bucket into a mining bucket to unlock that engineer someday and that was the last time I flew it. I dont even remember where it's parked.

My Cutter is the closest thing I can imagine this game having to a mobile fortress. Currently I have set out on a long-range cargo haul to Colonia with the secondary mission set of deep space exploration, all with the ability to put up a fight or disengage as needed.
I fit her out as follows:
6a thrusters and 7a power plant, both class 8 slots but downgraded for weight
D-rated sensors and life support
7a FSD
6d power distibutor in a 7 slot, the minimum pd that allows for a thruster boost with a g3 charge enhanced mod applied.

8b fuel scoop
6a afmu
6d shield
Single-bay fighter hangar
Single-bay SRV hangar
Class 5 repair limpet controller
Advanced Discovery Scanner
DSS, and finally
one massive class 8 256 ton cargo bay, with 30 limpets from the get go.

Armed with 2 medium gimballed beams on the nacelles and a huge underslung pulse laser. 2 chaff launchers, 2 heat sink launchers, and a shield booster on the utilities.

Even with full cargo bay and fuel tank, with a modest amount of engineering she can jump 30 light years flat. I’m currently just 4500ly away from Colonia, carrying some much needed basic goods and tens of millions in exploration data. The only ship that can come close to that type of long-range exploration trader is the Conda, but it will never match the Cutter’s speed and the two class 8 slots can really shine if equipped right.

Cutter is my PvP and PvE combat ship.
Corvette is my weapons testing platform.
Anaconda is my taxi.
Type 10 is currently being used to store hardpoints.

Corvette and Cutter are must haves. They both are great in PvP, and have very big drawbacks each. The Corvette is very slow and cannot intercept, but has excellent CQB handling.

The Cutter excels at chasing down running targets unlike the Corvette, but lacks CQB performance. You want both in a wing.

The T10 and conda require more specialized uses imo.

If I had to choose one, it would easily be the Cutter. It does everything. It is also the only Big 4 to outrun all the other ships. Only a Cutter can fight my Cutter.

I think the main reason you'd want one of these ships is because you haven't experienced them yet.

Can't know if you'll like something until you try it.

Thinking about it a bit more, especially in regard to the OP's position....

I was actually in a similar position myself, to some extent at least.
I had ships intended specifically for combat, ships for mission-running, ships for carrying passengers, ships for mining, ships for exploring etc.
They were all perfectly suited for their intended purpose and I had a cargo Cutter for hammering CGs and a Corvette for hammering RES's.

The only thing I was really missing was an all-rounder that is, basically, a grown-up Python - something which could just do a bit of almost anything.

And that's exactly the role an Annie slots right into.

If you get one of the big 3 (or maybe big 6 if you include T9, T10 and Beluga) and fly it for any reasonable length if time then switch back to a small ship, you'll really appreciate how well the small ones fly.

If you keep fighters onboard, the other ships seem quite sluggish. Took me a while to get used to dogfighting again in a Viper. Was so used to flying my GU97

So up to now I've not bothered getting one of the big three / four ships as I can't really think of anything to do with it. Credits aren't the issue, I have easily enough cash to buy & outfit one in any config and still enough for many rebuys.
For combat I have an engineered FDL that can take on just about anything in PVE.
For exploring I have my ASPX
For hauling / trade and missions I have my Python
For mats gathering / scouting / data missions / smuggling and just larking around i have my Cobra MkIII.
One area I haven't got into is SLFs and that's something I would like to do but I have a gunship that could do that.
So why should I get one....I'm really struggling to justify it....any help or suggestions would be appreciated (I'm PvE only BTW).
I have no Empire rank at all so the cutter is out, it's a conda, vette or Type 10....but why?

If you don't think you need one, then you don't need one. Playing the current CG on the other hand, collecting bounties in an a fully A-rated, pretty heavily modified Corvette none of the opposing NPC ships, including Elite Anacondas can take a single ring off my shields before I pop their hulls. In addition I have room for a 4A FSD Interdictor, a Kill Warrant Scanner, a bunch of shield boosters, two 6A SCBs and still have a couple of empty module slots. Dealing with other large ships, once their shields go down and they lose hull integrity they slow down and are poppable by ramming into them. o7

I don't have any of the big 3; they just don't appeal to me. But when I needed a rescue boat to go into burning stations the Type 10 was just the ticket. Great heat management, plenty of carrying capacity and it handles just like I imagine a huge flying breeze block would. What's not to like? :D

Power management is pants, btw. You can fit lots of guns, or a decent shield- not both. But pew pew isn't really my thing; your mileage may vary... ;)
