Pesonal cargo area question

After reading the changes to engineering, I for one am estactic. Since launch with only a couple of exception in which I ended up with a worse fsd than when I started I tried a third time and after rolling an excess of 100 times. Ended up with a whole extra ly, changing me from 14.5 to 15.5. Being discouraged, I never went back.

I know that there is an area in which one basically has a personal cargo bin. With catorgories listed as: materials, data and synthesis. From what I understand some of the articles within is utilize by various engineers and some of it is not. Having no previous interest in engineering, when the various compartment got full, I took a few minutes and just tossed it all out.

But with the changes coming to engineering, and knowing that my grinding will end on a positive note when I attempt to get engineered. I'm taking the time now, to unlock some of the easier ones. The first two are done. And after my Conda Miner is compete, going to the third whom just sent me an invitation.

My question is, is there a list somewhere as to what one should keep that's conducive to the yearnings, wants and desires of the various engineers. Thus knowing what to toss out when trying to make room? I know that they have other items based on RNG and or mission to accomplish. But that's part of the normal grinding. Just how all that stuff gets in my personal cargo is a mystery to me. And until now where as the upcoming update has got me intrigued, I'm planning to join the rank and file of y'all, and do some engineering. Where as I normally just throw it all away, but now realize I can't or shouldn't do that anymore. I know it's not all imprortant, I just don't know which items are vs which items are not.

Have you ever surface mined? You know, drive around in your SRV, shoot rocks, and pick up stuff.

Oh, and in answer to your question, if you have an INARA account one of the things you can track is "cargo" which includes materials and data. Once those are entered you can go to "engineers" and see what upgrade requires what material and data and how much of it you have.

That works now. No telling what will happen after they break, er, I mean improve engineering.

Many have asked - myself included but the answer is no. Use INARA.

BEAWARE Inara will NOT Warn you that you need a permit to unlock a system before you can get to the engineer - so check your Galmap first to see if you can get to the engineers system or not before wasting your time mining for example.

There is very good list of what to keep and what to throw out here.https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/6gt47l/guide_how_to_optimize_your_materialsdata_capacity/

Its been here a long time. Is this what your after?

Thats really very user specific based on their choices for what they value as an engineered blueprint. Course that will all go out the window with new engineering IF you have to go from G1 to G5 through your selected blueprints because you cant skip a step and therefore skip requirement for essential materials. I have a spreadsheet of everything possible - it was a pain to put together required because FDev won't put the appropriate in-game information in place.
