Galnet Audio: The most useless thing in the whole game?

I think it is a great addition, because the principle can be applied in multiple places. What we are seeing is application one. I never look at Galnet because its out of game, but I am very happy to listen to Galnet as I travel around the galaxy. The same principle could be applied to missions, so the mission giver speaks the mission.

It's exactly 1:1 what EDDI does with a 17 dollars Salli UK voice sample.

Pretty sure people will use it twice and then will turn it off and never bother again. Just like basically every EDDI user does with the galnet plug-in since 2015.

EDDI is accessible in-game?

EDDI is a plug in you run with Elite, you say stuff, she/he answers. Stuff happens ingame, she/he informs you of it.

It's actually pretty neat. For example, if you scan a star EDDI says the composition, the age, the class. Or when changing system it informs you during witchspace how many people live there, the status and the economy.

It also can be launched as an extension of voice attack, and it's fully customizable both in what the system says in certain situations and in what you have to say to trigger stuff ingame.

That actually is really cool, I was vaguely aware of it but didn't know exactly what it was capable of. Still like Galnet Audio, but might try that plug-in as well...

I will use it. Not sure why the OP doesn't like or want it, but like a lot of things in any game, some like parts of it and others don't. So it is and always will be.

Just one question - why? Seriously, why? IMO, this text-to-voice engine is the biggest waste of developer time. Do you really think someone would use it?

I think Gallnet was the most useless thing in the game until this function came along. Now the docking computer is back to being most useless again.
I like it, and am finally going to use Gallnet with this thingy.

I plan to use it. Since the Thargoids I have been looking at Galnet each game session and catching up.
As I do not play every day, think youtube will beat Galnet to the new on non-game days, but looking forward to it.

It is possible I will only use it twice! Going forward though, once we have voice in the game, there are other areas I would be interested in my computer telling me about, pretty much anything that needs me to leave cockpick mode actually. I have HCS voicepacks they are pretty good - although I rarely use them for actual control - the occasional shield cell or chaff in PvE that is about it.

I imagine it reading out all those boring auto generated news articles, pplay updates, stations affected, please include a way to turn it off, unless you're going to make the content interesting and put some cash/dev hours into it.

For the people that will be using this new feature. I have a couple questions for you. How many minutes do you think it will take before you have listened to all the galnet news? Are you just going to listen to the same news over and over? Because there really is not that much news that comes out on galnet all the time. Its not like a 20 page newspaper everyday or anything LMAO. It is a waste of Dev time IMO.

It would be nice (as was mentioned to be possible in the stream) to use this new system as a way of bringing out live alerts, for more dynamic events happening. Rather than waiting to get to a station to read the news, something that was within say, 100ly or so that needed immediate attention (like a broadcasted distress call or something) could be picked up and relayed via voice.

Or if an inage 'thing' was happening, all pilots currently online could hear it in real time.

Theset things would be a vastly better use of what is essentially a text-to-speech reader using the voice from what sounds like Amy, from IVONA, and I can already do myself using various external software apps. Of course, console players can't reall ydo this, so I guess it's a nice addition for them.
