As its been demonstrated so far, sure I can see how it doesn't appear to throw up anything particularly new or useful, certainly nothing that HCS/EDDI users havent already grown used to.
But like FDev have demonstrated before, sometimes they add in the bare bones of a system, and then revisit it later to flesh it out later.
From what I've read, some of what Galnet audio will do is dynamic, and I'd imagine scriptable beyond simply reading news feeds and flight events. Imagine flying through a system and getting a audio message asking for help with a mission, or a call to arms to help with some situation that's developing in the region as a result of the BGS or something? It'd be a great improvement on the current "tip off" messages (and the like) that we get at the moment.
Alternately, it could become a really interesting story telling tool in a game where people have already complained that the "story" is often difficult to actually find. I saw a great example on twitter a few hours ago for example, where someone has already created some kind of fake
pirate broadcast. Perhaps we'll see player submitted news opening up again, or maybe theyll just flesh out the world narrative system for us in a new, and more accessible way.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to begin fervently extolling the virtues of the galnet audio system, but I'm interested to see where they go with it. If they use it well, it could become significantly more than just a tool to listen to a couple of articles here and there.
