Just 1 out of 5 Newbies get out of the Sidewinder

Does Frontier intend to improve the experience for newbies? Because losing 4 out of 5 new customers is not good.

More Xbox achievement stats:

  • 44% have destroyed at least one ship
  • 0.8% have completed the first 5 training missions (includes the Advanced Combat Tutorial, which is very difficult for a newcomer)

On PS4 49.3% get out of the Sidewinder.

You can only evaluate statistics if you compare with other games. Did you? I can imagine that a 1 to 5 quota isn't that unusual actually. I started many games I never finished or played on. Also there is no statistics for PC.
This thread is pretty much artificially created panic fodder.

True that there are no statistics for PC but I have been trawling through some of the games in my Steam library to see how they measure up....

1/4 of people never complete Mission 1 of Sniper Elite 4.
1/4 of People never got past level 5 of Skyrim
1/5 of people never completed the intro mission of Dishonoured.
1/4 of people never fully upgraded the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device.

The stats stay the same through most of my library of Steam Games. People buy games and then realise it isn't the game they though it would be.

Considering Elite is a more nice game than most I'm not that surprised...

It’s frustrating when you see brilliance in a game but nobody you actually know and hang out with does. :(

I know what you mean. Kind of interesting how disparate the player base is, and not exactly in the same neighborhoods.
Serious FSX simmers also kind of similar in that way.

Given the posted stats one might assume that many players stop playing as they never left the Sidewinder. But then assuming is usually the first Big Mistake when posting on the Forum.

Reminds me of the movie 'Two Weeks Notice".

Lucy Kelson: I think you're the most selfish human being on the planet.

George Wade: Well that's just silly. Have you met everybody on the planet?

That's pretty much consistent with what i have observed.
Also, with all the Steam sales going on, many end up with a back catalogue they couldn't possibly ever get trough.
So of course there will be plenty of ED owners who barely (if ever) played the game, some of which will revisit at some point, others won't.
There's nothing really unusual about that, and something you'll see with every game.
And certainly nothing to get into each others hair over.

Ok saw the piccie, they say a piccie says a 1000 words, in this case the words would have been better - get it now you are trying to start a console war, official Cosmos says PS4 players are better than Xbox players :)

Cheers
Simon

To me, it looks like you're the one who's trying to turn it into a "console war" to divert attention away from the issue that the OP has highlighted.

CONSOLE WARS CONFIRMED!!!!

You read it here first.

I don't see where's the problem. Frontier are supposed to be making David's vision come to fruition, mass-market appeal should only at best be a tool, not the goal.

Please keep in mind that this unlock percentage is likely lower than expected on Xbox One due to Elite appearing in the Game Preview Program; anyone who downloaded and launched the game when it had a free trial period on the program will contribute towards the total number of players, even if they never touched it again!

That's unfortunate :)

Without disclosing much about numbers - are you guys happy about overall player base on consoles? It is quite hard game for them after all.

To add to what Lloyd has said, they don't even need to have launched the game, it's anyone who downloaded Elite Dangerous during the GPP.

What makes you think the game is "hard for console players"? That's a pretty low & elitist opinion you have there.

I've gotten very involved with the Xbox community lately, and let me tell you, there's a huge amount of enthusiasm for the game.

No, it isn't going to replace Call of Duty, but frankly, those people who want Call of Duty, are playing Call of Duty. They're nothing to do with Elite.

Those who do play... They play this game just as well as any PC CMDR.

That pretty much wraps up the thread.....

Sorry, I didn't mean console players don't enjoy hard games. What I meant it is a bit more hardcore than regular console game and that might cause less players sticking with game on consoles. It is just assumption, if that's wrong, I am very happy.

I’ve managed to coax 3 friends into buying ED, all on pc, and only one of the them made it past the Sidey unaided (another made it as far as the Cobra Mk. III with my assistance). None of the three played for more than a few months before giving up on it. It’s a very niche title, for sure.

It’s frustrating when you see brilliance in a game but nobody you actually know and hang out with does. :(

Yeah very true that .
So dissapointing when they all quit and only you are left.

Then be happy, as you are wrong. Games like Elite are welcomed on consoles. They're niche, they don't have as many players as AAA shooters, but as I said, CoD players aren't part of the equation. Just as PUBG players on PC aren't playing ED.
