I'll post something constructive just as soon as you do. I'll just wait until this happens....
Constructive =/= something you agree with, btw. My post had a point, yours didn't even make sense.

This pretty much sums it up.
I think FD already did the extra mile to make this kind of game more accessible to more casual players, without completely ruining what makes this game different in the first place.
Counter Strike or whatever the current flavour of the month MOBA will always have more players than ED, but thank the gods ED is not one of those games.
I think it still demonstrate a lack of quality, entertainment, and laziness perhaps not from the new players who give up, but from developers that fail to introduce the game properly and keep interest. The reviews (in my opinion) point to just that: to most people its a mediocre game (6 out of 10ish). To me its a bit more.
I had very similar experiences: introduced the game (even gifted it) to 6-8 people, only 1 continued to play and then lost interest after flying without rebuy money. His fault, clearly, but to get back to where he was he felt it was not worth it.
I’ve managed to coax 3 friends into buying ED, all on pc, and only one of the them made it past the Sidey unaided (another made it as far as the Cobra Mk. III with my assistance). None of the three played for more than a few months before giving up on it. It’s a very niche title, for sure.
It’s frustrating when you see brilliance in a game but nobody you actually know and hang out with does.![]()
Majority of players look very fast and approachable entertainment. That's not a goal of ED though.
Said that, FD could keep a lot of players in game with lot of small improvements. In fact, that's what Beyond is about.

Yes, how wasn't it? It was to the point and correcting the incorrect assumption that the game's "niche" which is why it's failing to hold an audience. Most people commenting on my comment have been here long enough to have read the countless posts about the game and how boring it is. Also forgetting that Braben himself is quoted saying the game has a 60 hour average appeal. Now the console stats are in (also remember that people who played the demo also count - the demo wasn't interesting enough for them to get the game) and we see only 20% play enough to get passed a Sidey making an 80% loss rate.
To say it's because it's a "niche" game doesn't address the point and just makes excuses for it.
...you know Satan is going to work in a snow plough.
Not it doesn't. It is just a fact. There is a reason the word exists. Because there are things that are niche. Kinda like pirate metal bands. It doesn't matter how good said bands in the genre are, it is a niche genre and will never go mainstream. That is just a fact of life man.

The best FD can hope to do with Elite is make it the best in the genre. Which it is currently nailing.
Please keep in mind that this unlock percentage is likely lower than expected on Xbox One due to Elite appearing in the Game Preview Program; anyone who downloaded and launched the game when it had a free trial period on the program will contribute towards the total number of players, even if they never touched it again!
To add to what Lloyd has said, they don't even need to have launched the game, it's anyone who downloaded Elite Dangerous during the GPP.
Has anyone ever seen cosmo and Donald Trump in the same room together?
Only they seem to have exactly the same modus operandi: spew bile with a reference to some nut job's post thats popped up on their Twitter feed and sit back while everyone debates it like it's actually a real thing.

That's an odd statistic.
I got out of the sidewinder in about 20 minutes of logging in. Lol
I guess some people just don't have the patience for this game.
Bear in mind that overall console controllers seem to be among the least well conceived of the control setups...they have the worst of both worlds: none of the immersion/fluidity of use of a HOTAS, none of the precision of KBAM. I can see players getting frustrated using an xbox/ps4 controller and not progressing to buy their own HOTAS.
Sorry, I didn't mean console players don't enjoy hard games. What I meant it is a bit more hardcore than regular console game and that might cause less players sticking with game on consoles. It is just assumption, if that's wrong, I am very happy.
Not at all. Elite is for the kind of player who wants to play Elite, regardless of platform. If anything, in the GPP days, the Xbox Elite community were respected for their maturity.ED is in essence a game for a PC, maybe console players have different expectations, and need to get end game ships as quickly as possible, to get their fix.

That's unfortunate
Without disclosing much about numbers - are you guys happy about overall player base on consoles? It is quite hard game for them after all.
