A question about causing damage to shield gen.

Mines with reverberating cascade and station defences.

This is the correct answer. They are also quite useful as a strategic weapon IMO - many see reverb torpedoes as "cheap" because of their ability to kill the shield (I see them more as a trap than cheap per se - they can be outrun if you know what's after you but are devastating if you mess up) but reverb mines are quite useful even if an opponent sees them because they will screw with their flight and make them wary of coming straight at you.

My speedy 800+ battle courier has lightweight-engineered reverb mines for this reason, to accompany its long range lasers. Lots of fun.

Mines...

They were magnificent, once upon a time.

These days though...

Well, I have managed a few mine kills, with a Dolphin, while flying in reverse.

If you've never reverse-mined someone, try it. Just don't die laughing, ok?

Was sat in the dock the other day wondering if I should finally give mines a try. Ended up reading a massive amount of posts detailing thee pro's and con's. The general consensus was mines where too easy against NPC's (Great for harmless traders) you just drop them and the NPC would fly straight into them. Now they require a bit of skill to use, some very good techniques where mentioned, nothing about flying backwards though.

Still haven't tried them, I find reverb torps work best for defence.

A reverb mine or two dropped while flying in reverse work quite nicely as well, and with great comedic effect. It's kind of like an explosive cow-pie to the face.
