Maybe my second proposal was a bit far fetched but where is the harm in giving players the option to pre-allocate the funds needed to cover a couple of their most expensive rebuys...

We already have that option, it's called keeping some spare cash in your account to cover a couple of your most expensive rebuys.

Sigh.

But maybe some people need a bit of help with that. The accidental or impulsive purchase that unwittingly drops them below the rebuy level? To use another analogy, the backup partition on my hard drive is hard allocated by W10 so I can't overwrite or use it for other files. There are plenty of other examples IRL where people need to be protected from inadvertent consequences.

As this is the Suggestions forum perhaps the view from someone in FDev who monitors the board would be of more pertinent value?

No, not sigh.

There's no such thing as accidentally or impulsively buying a ship that "unwittingly drops you below rebuy". There is simply negligence and lack of personal responsibility, i.e. deliberately choosing to purchase a ship that leaves you with less cash than you need to replace that ship should it be destroyed.

Granted, this is mostly because of my own inaptitude, but as a consequence of this, I am unable to rebuy my ship...

There you go. Just like that. When you omit the wishy washy apologetics, it suddenly becomes a clear case of personal responsibility.

Everyone quotes the old "Never Fly without Rebuy" ad infinitium; but not everyone that makes chooses to make this mistake understands or is even truly aware of gives full consideration to the consequences until it actually happens.

There we go. Fixed it for you, in orange.

As I said above, this is the Suggestion forum so perhaps we need some input from the Devs themselves rather than the "boot boy" put down from (some) of the old hands which seems to accompany any temerity that might suggest a different way of doing things.

Happy flying in the virtual space pixels... :)

Maybe we should let people pay 5% of ship price as insurance in advance, which would cover 1 year or until you are destroyed. If you wouldn´t pay it in advance, ship would be gone. If you would stick that in people faces hard enough (you must pay insurance or you will lose ship permanently if destroyed!!! kind of pop up with payment as default option heh), these cases might happen less. Maybe.

I know... it would probably have to be 30% (50, 90), because it would have to take only hull price into calculation (load out changes). Meh forget it.

No. Why do we have to complicate things because a small fraction of players can't understand the simple concept of "don't fly without rebuy"?

Frankly, it's one of the best consequences this game has. Don't ruin it.
I find it difficult to understand how people can take off, without realising they don't have enough credits for their re-buy. Open the right hand info panel and there it is. In your face on the first page, with you ranks and everything. Two numbers; your account balance and right underneath it, the re-buy cost. I feel like an idiot typing this, because it is so understood.

If the top number is lower than the bottom number, just down grade a module. Now that IS rocket science.

I upgraded to a type 9.. a useless ship if you ask me and then spent every penny filling it with cargo.. got interdiction tried to escape and then realized oh oh so i tried to give up.. another mistake and that was that.. about 110 million gone you work really hard for that first hundred million so losing it I pretty much felt like you did but now looking back I realize it's kind of what makes the game pretty cool it's about as real as it can get with respect to not many second chances either way I'm back on top I learned a great lesson you will too

Lost everything...[WARNING: LOTS OF TEXT]
Late edit: I'm going to keep everything here as is for context, but please disregard it and keep reading the rest of the thread. Thank you so much.

Hello internet, I am writing this is mere moments after the incident that happened, so please bare with me and forgive me if I sound too whiny, unreasonable or whatever. Part of the reason I'm doing this is to vent a little, because as you're soon about to realize, my jimmies are quite rustled, so please hear me out.

Now then, let me explain, I shall attempt to be as succinct as posssible. What happened was I had just bought a Python after trading in a Type 7 for aaages and kitted it out for maximum cargo capacity, and I had found a great route with a 2300cr/t profit.

I loaded up my cargo hold with goodies and set out to my destination. I then arrived at the station, one of those long ones with the huge ring with two arms going across the radius and meeting in the middle where the entrance is. I arrrived at the station from behind and above it, so I was pointing the same way as the entrance. This of course meant I have to fly through or over the ring (but that is a detour, so I chose not to) to reach the entrance. I reckon you can guess just about what happens next. I didn't evn see the arm, it came in from the side and smacked me. My ship is wrecked.

Granted, this is mostly because of my own inaptitude, but as a consequence of this, I am unable to rebuy my ship because I am unable to pay the insurance claim, and almost all my assets was in my ship and it's expensive crago. Not even with the loan you can take out of 600k cr was enough, wich tbh is hardly anything, they could easily increase that. Maybe even to as much as you need, but if you do that you can't take out another untill your existing loan is payed for. I feel like that could maybe work.

I like this game, I truly do, but there is in my opinion a major flaw with it in how insanely unforgivig it can be. I have spent almost 250h playing this game, and my assets totaling about 65 million cr is now GONE, just because I can't afford the stupid insurance claim. I am now forced to start almost from scratch in a Startwinder. All that time...wasted! Just because of that silly thing that happened. And yes, I can hear all of you who say "Don't fly a ship with an insurance claim you cant afford". I see your point, but I just don't think it's fair at all. I'm so done with this game now, if I ever start playing it again it won't be in any foreseeable future.

If you managed to sit through and read all of that, I thank you, and I ask you all your own viewpoint on this (the concept of being able to get reset so far back that is, not wether this particular situation was fair or not) and if anything similar have happened to you. Personally I think it's just dumb, you can get so royaly screwed! This is simply TOO harsh:mad:

You know what? A while back when Elite just came out, I took my time to get into a Type 7. I was so excited to finally be able to buy it and fill it with cargo that I ignored the fact I'm not going to have enough credits left for insurance.

And of course I accidentaly pressed the boost button while leaving the station and smashed into a wall.

You've made a (VERY) stupid mistake - but it's the kind of mistake you will never repeat, trust me. You will fly safer and you will make sure you have the funds needed for a rebuy just in case. And be glad it happened while you were flying a Python. Imagine this happening in an Anaconda with a rebuy of 15M+ credits (or something even more expensive).

Happy to say I haven't seen the rebuy screen even once since that Type 7, lesson learned in my case :)
