What's so amazing about ELite in its current state? I am personally a P.beta 1 backer but i don't see it as the holy grail yet.

It's not a holy grail, but it's a a) good game (even with parts missing) b) and it is has high class qualities. So it's kinda good point. Indies are awesome, level of gameplay ideas expressed in those "low tech" games are just impressive, but sometimes it lacks some additional layer.

So thumbs up for indies, but ED is showing what dedicated game can do it.

No one ever said a Beta was intended to be 'fit for purpose'. The point about the phrase is that it is evaluated in a contextual sense. So in the sense of a completed product it is something that is reliable a large proportion of the time and is also not purporting to be something it isn't.

In the sense of a Beta, its purpose is to be evaluated for issues and problems that would not be acceptable in a final product and to help balance and develop the product for final release. In this instance the product is serving its purposes exactly as people are raising bugs and FD are fixing said bugs. Additionally every issue that is identified and fixed leads to the final product being of acceptable quality for public-release...

Additionally there are many many many people who are having an overall decent experience with Elite : Dangerous and the only 'problems' that are widespread are to do with the learning curve and this is by design so the 'problems' are merely an issue of perception and not understanding fully the aims of the game.

Now I have a suggestion for you... If you want to see what 'not fit for purpose' really means... just have a good long look at the recent SimCity saga.... And go away because you're only going to make yourself look daft with your carry on and most people in here will just toy with you.

Purpose of beta access is well beta access. It is unfinished game. By law, all you could get is beta access....and that's about it.

I fully agree, and that's why I'm completely opposed to FDEV's considerations to bring ED to consoles. If you plan to bring a PC game to consoles you have to make some major concession w.r.t. game design since PS4 and XBox One are not even close to the performance of current high-end gaming PCs, let alone to gaming PCs in 2-3 years from now....

FD could bring it to the consoles IN THE FUTURE if there won't be any changes to the gameplay. Bringing it to Xbox One could be easier., but consoles would need other equipment to play. FD is 'future proofing' ED so consoles is possible in the future.

The concept and tech is there. DB make reference that GTA is the closes analog (is this the right usage) to Elite. So the EVA expansion could take on what was developed for the Outsider.

Never mind the fact that he's seemed to have enjoyed the game...

It feels good to destruct a eagle in a spaceport, I just wish I could see it from a spaceport camera.

and had reasonable use out of it...

I ungraded to a eagle and it couldn't jump very far so I destructed it and went back to the sidey, there was no station in range I could buy another ship at.

The sidey is hopeless at fighting so the bulletining board is not much use and when I do see a possible mission I cant select it for some reason.

I think the game should help you out more with trading because its too much donkey work scraping enough cash to get a decent ship and weapons.
