Hardware & Technical Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS official thread

First 1v1 for me with full fcs and pedals. All on same USB hub

For those that are having trouble with ghost input on the twist axis and don't care about potentially voiding the warranty, I've got a possible fix. It's not that difficult to get to the cheap potentiometer that Thrustmaster used. I took the stick apart and "opened" the potentiometer to clean the inside. You can pull the potentiometer apart using a knife. I didn't see any obvious corrosion on the contact, but there was some crud on the "lid" of resistive material.

You can see the potentiometer (the green square) at ~25:16 in this video.

need help

i have just got the thrustmaster 16000M joystick and throttle i have set up the T.A.R.G.E.T stuff but i cant get the thing to respond to ED i go in to options then controls and select custom in the presets but when i try to bind keys it just does nothing but windows says its all working fine i even tested it and it is work just not in ED i really need help

are you playing through steam? you will need to turn off the generic controller setting for it to work. it souls recognize the HOTAS in game without the need to set up bindings at the beginning

Why you want to install that T.A.R.G.E.T. crap? It combines the two devices into one. Guess what? Each device can have 8 axes maximum. The two of these devices combined have 9 axes. So by using T.A.R.G.E.T you are losing one of the axes. To me, it's just nonsense. I don't use it and I don't recommend it. Thrustmaster makes good hardware. They should stick to that, because their software stinks.

Are you connecting through a USB hub? Some people have had trouble getting controllers recognized through powered USB hubs.

I tried to help Cmdr Warren earlier. I had emailed him my HCS Thrustmaster key binds T16000M hotas . It seems his pc ( Windows 10 ) is converting the binds file to a notepad file. As far as I’m aware it should be “ either “ a .html file or a .binds file, not sure which.

If someone could confirm the file type and how to rename it to the correct binds type file, I’m hoping this will fix it. Also I suspect it may be something to do with his presets file ? Or both.

I feel for him, but it’s beyond me as to why it’s not appearing to see the binds , or respond in game to them

Interesting points Cmdr, May I enquire if you have set your curves up, and if so how ?..I used it without any issues

I don't use curves. I don't fly FA Off all the time. To me it's nowhere near realistic to do that. I promise you the Astronauts who flew the shuttle didn't, especially when docking with the ISS. They used computer control with fly-by-wire. Telling the computer what they wanted done and letting the computer do it for them. Much more accurate that way, safer, and prevented the need for major repairs. Only time I use FA Off is while turning in combat, lining up for outposts, and lining up and going through the mail slot. Auto-stabilization is there for a reason. I use it when I need it and turn it off when it's disadvantageous. Just like a real space pilot would do. And no, I don't use yaw to line up to outposts. I use my lateral thrusters and then FA Off and a tiny burn of my top thruster and drift down to the pad.

If someone could confirm the file type

It's .binds

Also remember that the PresetName value (2nd line of the file) should match the filename (without the extension).

Completely concur with KellyR. The TARGET software is a relic from another era and best not installed. I mean, whoever thought end users should be exposed to a C-like scripting language, complete with pointer syntax, should have been shot. And then taken out the back and shot some more.

If you really need curves then I'd consider vJoy. But I have never felt the need for them, just as I have my mouse on linear settings for mouse+WASD games.

I trust it would be a humane shooting and no water boarding involved prior to said shooting ...who still plays WASD games..really ?

I received comms from Cmdr Warren late last night, two words only IT LIVES.....

Thank you for your comments Cmdrs ...it’s what makes this community so great

To each their own. If you really want to use the T.A.R.G.E.T. software, more power to you, just be aware that you lose one axes by doing so. I use all 9 of my axes and can't make the joystick curves program work. Don't know why it doesn't work, but it doesn't. Even if it did, I still wouldn't use FA Off exclusively. Like I said, Auto-stabilize is there for a reason. I see no reason to eschew it. Sure, I'll get in open space, turn it off and throw the ship around just for fun. But for docking and combat? Nope. I use the auto-stabilizer when I need it and disable it when Newtonian makes more sense.

I just decided to try something. I realized I had never tried to install Joystick curves on my current machine. On my last machine it just didn't work for some odd reason. So I installed it on this one and it works and works very well. And gives a level of control that approaches mouse flight. But I still won't use FA Off exclusively. For what I need FA Off for, this will help immensely. But once I'm inside the dock, lined up to an outpost pad, or out of the turn in combat, flight assist will be re-enabled. I just don't see the need to refuse to use a perfectly viable and useful tool just because I can. But for those of you out there who want to, I salute you. You are more skilled than me and not as lazy:D

Edit: I forgot to turn off the virtual axis test loop after configuring. When I launched it automatically started to roll. I almost quit the game but remembered at the last second about the virtual test loop. I unchecked that and it was fine. DoHHHH Hate when I have a brain fart :D

So my t16000 broke and I'm using a vkb gladiator. Buy I still use the TM throttle and absolutely love it. I've got a trick for always staying in the blue zone with this throttle. I picked it up watching the cqc guys and adapted it for this throttle. I bound full forward and full reverse to the rudder pedals on the throttle. For day to day flying just use it as normal. But for combat and docking I move the throttle to the center of the blue zone then use the rudders for throttle. It's exactly like use pedals but with your fingers. Whenever I let go of the rudders I'm always in the blue. It works really well for docking too. Just leave the throttle at 0 and use the rudders for small movements.

I hope this helps someone.

Yes I am the same, best of both HOTAS and HOSAS worlds. But my landing override switches the vertical thrusters to the paddles, putting fore/aft and port/starboard on the mini-stick, so that the vertical axis is isolated for high-G worlds.
