When are new SRVs coming?

So it has been a year since the launch of Horizons. We have many different ship launched fighters, where are the new SRVs?

I would like two see a couple of them. One big and heavy with a large cargo capacity. These would be useful for surface POI's and gathering the containers, as well as Thargoid sites!

Would also like to see maybe a faster one with MUCH improved handling. Something that would work well for some bucky ball racing! And also may be a preferable pick for running around settlements getting to those data points before the timer runs out.

Maybe one that is not as fast but has a much larger boost, so you can fly it farther. Or get more altitude in high G worlds.

Or just put modules in them and lets us customize (engineer) boost rate, capacitor, speed, cargo racks, etc....

I would love a few different SRV types. And if they come, then I hope they are as well designed as the current model.

On my wishlist are:

1. A true combat SRV: more armour and at least two weapon types.
2. A specialized mining SRV. I really would like true planetary mining to be implemented.
3. A very light and fast (perhaps unarmed) skimmer-like reconnaissance SRV

I would like an end to the use of a combat laser to break up materials for harvest.
We should need to use different tools for that.

I would really like to have new SRVs, but for that they need new roles to play with. Like tankinsh SRVs most likely need more difficult defenses and other systems.

There are concept arts for other SRVs. Are they coming for Beyond is really hard to tell.

SRV's I'd love to see:

- Battle SRV, possibly eschews scanner and jet boosters, but harder armour, bigger weapons (possibly even one that can be used effectively against ships)
- Transport SRV. No boosters, maybe even no shields, weak weapon, can carry 10-12t of goods.
- Recon SRV. Less powerful weapons, 4t capacity, longer range data scanner

Then you can get further into variants of that... mining SRVs, dedicated anti-ship SRVs... of course then you start to say "well, give us a frame and let us fit it out", which at the very least, the "livery" dialog goes there. Wouldn't be too much of a design leap to extend that to general outfitting and allow us to outfit SRVs and SLFs as we like.

Seconded. Please add hover tanks or vehicles like in the classic RTS game Dune 2.

It would make the surface sites more interesting when NPC vehicles guard it.

Clearly the priority has changed in that time, otherwise we'd have seen something by now.

yes, yet again the priorities have shifted :( it has become a recurring theme unfortunately

promise things than shift priorities

It would even be acceptable (barely) if not for the fact that they took money up front and than decided not to deliver, also it`s not like it has happened for the first time. God like powers, 3d printed models, offline, orrery... the list of lies goes on and on

I totally ignore picking up cargo from planets as it just takes too long. (Is that a valid excuse in this game??)

Perhaps a larger vehicle that is much slower and has no weapons (?), as the original SRV needs to be a viable option.

Perhaps we could add a trailer to the SRV to carry more things. :D Perhaps a campervan for those long material collecting trips :p

Yeah, I'm surprised the devs haven't offered extra choice, much like the fighters allow for 3 designs, all with pros and cons. I suggested long ago that we could perhaps be given skimmers as an alternative option. So if you have 2 bays you could have one of each type of vehicle. A skimmer would be nicer for rocky uneven terrain.

Lol... in this game... you know something takes unnecessarily long when we think it takes too long... cuz, everything takes too long. But, when we say it does, then, well, it really is excessive! Im with you, Ill scoop 2 items and leave the rest.

I put SRV in the same boat as "kill x number of bad guys" missions... really? I got to take a whole weekend for a measly 4 mil? No thanks.

There should be different srvs and different sized srv bays. If I want a large, say 20 ton capacity, srv then I have to use a 5 slot. Scale it to the amount of cargo space.

There should also be combat specific srvs.

At no point was the word "promise" used in that part of the interview. They intend on it, and at no point have they said "Nah, we're skipping it." Delays due to giving us Beyond are hardly unreasonable.

Conversely, naming ships (which is mentioned right after) is specifically identified as a "Kickstarter promise." And notice we have that now.

Hovertanks or vehicles could be useful if we start seeing terrain that's less than solid, like slurries or marshes. Having said that, though, I'm leery of any suggestion that includes the phrase "just like game x." Even if there's no danger of litigation from game x should the suggestion be taken, there is a guarantee someone is going to say "you ripped off game x because you can't come up with anything original."

Right, it can't be direct copies of another game. It's an example of how Westwood managed to simulate a living-breathing planetary base on a barren desert planet (Arrakis) with cool pixelated vehicles in 1992. This was on arguably the first real-time strategy game in history.

In this video you can see multiple vehicles doing interesting things around the base and arial vehicles carry them to and from the base. This stuff makes a planetary settlement really come alive. It's sorely lacking in Elite Dangerous atm.

For bigger SRVs to make sense first they have to make sense of current planetary gameplay. They need to sort out which missions they want to be seen as part of wing missions, and what kind of new SRVs might be required to fulfill specific roles in wing.

Not sure it is all coming in Beyond, but considering SRVs are basically way we will traverse planets in future too (despite what you think about space legs, you won't walk tens of kms on alien planet) I don't expect Scarab to stay only choice.

OOOH! OOOH! An SRV thread! I want a manned skimmer to reduce planetside VR nausea. Faster but harder to stop and maneuver( no breaks, so watch those cliff edges...) with just 1 ton cargo or even heck, skip the cargo altogether( still with ability to collect mats).

I had really bad SRV VR nausea, so bad I couldn't drive for more than 30 seconds. There are 2 settings in the graphics options. One to reduce camera shake, and one to keep your vision aligned with the horizon. I have both turned on, and now I can drive for hours with no problem.

Go for 1G ^ planets :) Shake is considerably reduced.

Adding new SRVs is a massive distraction to the priorities of Beyond. If you add a new SRV, you need to rebalance all the missions that require an SRV.

Frankly - I want a new SRV. But I don't want it more badly than improving the core game mechanics first.

But that is not a beyond feature

It was a feature advertised as a part of a horizons package
Horizons is now a year late and the other SRV`s are still nowhere to be seen, and as it seems no longer in the plans

Now we need explanations from frontier, and time of delivery of those late goods, not patting them on the back and giving them yet another "get out of jail free" card

they no longer deserve it...

They had the time and resources to produce another game, port ED to yet another platform, buy another franchise, assemble a new team and start work on a new title, plan two additional title launches, create an expo event, and build new HQ... but they somehow never managed to deliver what they sold... I`m sorry for me that is a scam... I should have listened to what Ian said about David

Looking at it logically the only reason that an SRV bay doesn't come pre-loaded with Scarabs is to allow other SRV types. Otherwise why the hell would you ever want to buy an empty hangar when there's no other way of getting an SRV into it than buying one in outfitting and no point in having the hangar without one?

I'd be happy with one that had a larger cargo capacity. Unless you land your ship pretty much on top of the site, salvaging even as few as eight items is hugely tedious with the tiny cargo capacity we have now.
