What the H is a Cutter to do? For every million I make, another relative sues!

Eminem ripoff, but it feels accurate right now. I like flying my cutter, but I can't think of anything worth doing with it. Commodity trading is low income and passengers are even worse. What is the point of having the best cargo ship in the game if there is nothing worth hauling? I'd like to point out that both of these activities don't benefit from the distance from star bonus that was added not too long ago. That allows a simple hauler to make as much money as a cutter by hauling significantly less cargo for a mission.

I'm open to suggestions, maybe someone can teach me a decent commodity trade route, but it seems like I would be better off flying my FDL in RES or taking my Anaconda into the black. Thoughts?

Currently, the trading Cutter (preferably with C5 shield, which allows it to carry 760t while shielded) is used for two things - hauling powerplay cargo and hauling cargo for trading CGs.

You can be pulling in 5 mill on a 8 min run in a Cutter doing commodity hauling with meds and weapons to warzones and outbreak systems, even better up to 15+mill per 8 minute run doing mission haulage. Close EDDB and learn how the BGS works. Forgot rares lol, that's more suited for someone in a Clipper.

There really should be a BGS trading and mission guide pinned somewhere on this forum, also don't understand how someone gets a cutter yet doesn't know how to trade or find good missions using the gal map filters :-/

Edit - There was also a great guide, think it was by Cmdr Goeman, problem is people ignore stuff like that then complain they can't make money without exploits.

Trading is still a good way to make money, and probably will be more so when Beyond goes live.

Aside from that, you can do anything with a Cutter: combat, mining, exploration, piracy, etc.

Type 9 got a buff too, so now you can feel extra useless :D
That said, try a multi crew combat shield tank, with tons of turrets and slf. That’s basically the niche it fulfills.

Edit: forgot about mining, piracy, etc. Though I’ll respectfully disagree with exploration as it turns too slowly in supercruise to my taste.

Thanks for the suggestions, no need for the snide comment though.

I'm old and jaded buddy, cut me some slack. Good hunting, plenty of cash to be made out there. Heck you could head to Maia and make a killing right now hauling cargo from the surface ports whilst allied.

I am currently doing very well payed cargo missions in the Dvorsi region. They are up to 5.6 mill for 180 tons of whatever to the system next door. I just want to get to rank of King for the fun of it...

Yep lots of places like that if you know where to look. Absolute top end I have found at the moment is 7mill for 180 tonnes, that is 28+ mill for a a single Hop in a Cutter and shortly the T9. The key is to find a place in boom with lots of systems in very close proximity (this is why the Pleiades is so good right now) Once allied, you will get multiple 180 tonne missions going to the same port.

Darnielles progress was also offering 10 mill per 180T Meta alloy run, unfortunately the board started offing 70+ million credit missions, the devs had to take those missions offline.

Trading basics such as which economies produce what and what economies consume those goods is something you should look into as well.

Each economy is linked in a chain where it produces something another economy uses. A system can be one economy or two different stations can be two different economies allowing a back and forth non-stop run between the two.

Knowing which economies produce what and which ones consume them will teach you the very basic economic 101 of Elite Dangerous. "Buy Low, Sell High."

Stations that produce goods and have a high supply will always sell below galactic average. Stations that consume those goods and have a high demand will pay significantly more then any other station and well above galactic average.

As supply fluctuates, the lower the supply, the higher the cost. The lower the demand, the less they'll pay for it. This can change in real time regardless of mode you're in by the actions of other players.

Boom and Bust states also have effects on commodities price. Forget how that works though.

This is why you don't just rush for the Cutter. By playing the game you learn how these things work and then you know what activities a TradeCutter is good for.

Spent time doing a run on the community goal, but the commodities in the surrounding region have already dried up. Took me a 20 minute flight with 4+ jumps 1 way to make 2.8 million. I'll have to check out Pleiades next time. Is the system map still terribly inaccurate for system states (war/boom etc?) It used to be very unreliable.
