Subnautica

I would have liked to have seen a alternate reality version of this game, where development took it in the direction of a procedurally generated infinite ocean to explore.

Considering how many games we are getting nowadays with procedural huge worlds it would not surprise me if that is coming.

I would like a colonization game where we are tasked in finding a way to live on a planet of water with only a small land mass for the main base and then having to explore downward into the darkness because it's the only way we can go...and perhaps find monsters along the way.

One of the best survival games in my opinion, also one of the better early access experiences I had next to Kerbal Space Program. Very happy that they got it right.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I'll have to try this again.

For some reason I could never really get into it before. I'd putz around a little, build a couple of things, get bored and sign off. :)

Agree. It's interesting enough to keep you hooked and invested in it as a survival game. The mini stories they added are great too.

Not sure what Arc is but the other games on that site look like garbage.

What does it foretell?

Arc (and the operatore Perfect World) also invested heavily in the guys behind Torchlight 2 and Hob. But they realized they are not bringing AAA money, so the grapevine says they are closing the studios. So really hoping Subnautica is only using them as a distro platform.

AFAIK, Subnautica is self published by their developer, Unknown Worlds Entertainment, and they primarily use Steam (and apparently PWE) as a distribution platform.

I can't wait to see what they do next. This game was quite the departure from Natural Selection. Have they considered a space sim I wonder? ;-)

Subnautica with a graphics makeover and gravitational orientation turned off in water/zero-g would make a nice space game.

DLC maybe.

Game is now complete:

You can build a rocket ship and leave the ocean planet once and for all now!

I bought this game when it first launched, and though I was intrigued I only played for 5-6 hours before shelving. It's been gathering dust for several years now. I just dusted it off a couple hours ago and gave it a spin and holy smokes has it really matured into a beauty. Think I'm going to enjoy diving back into this one!

Similar actually here. Bought several years ago but it gathered dust after initially playing. Came back to it about a month ago and it's changed loads. Love the wee story elements in it now. Well acted and written.

It won my heart over when after playing for around an hour my little AI PDA voice informed me that I was "500% over my monthly physical exercise allotment and that my favorite activity was swimming."

Some friends and I bought it back when multiplayer was still on the table. Then that feature got sadly shelved, so the same happened to Subnautica. Now it's just sitting there in my steam library looking at me judgingly. But it's going to stay there for now.
