Subnautica

I have to say that next to Kerbal Space Program, Subnautica is the best early access investment I`v made so far. Great updates and communication from the devs all way long. Also game itself is a decent balance between survival and story plus it looks like J.C Avatar movie underwater. Optimization and in your face loading still needs some work.

All work, until release, is focused on just this.

Are they still adding content then? I bought ages ago but not started yet as don't want to spoil it

As a result of my above response, yes, it is content complete but I believe the very last thing you pursue
(building a rocket and leaving)
in the game is not activated, yet.

EDIT: In addition, it would seem that the UI is pretty much in its final state and the features of ships, tools and bases are settled.

Now this has been updated.... and now having an oculus... and the fact it can be played with oculus controllers.... I'm going to have to get this...

I think I was mistaken? I don't think it has Oculus Touch compatability - I'm holding off buying it because of this :(

Subnautica's due for release on the 23rd. It was a great game a year ago when I last played, should be fantastic now it's polished.

The latest patch was a massive visual overhaul was it not?

That's what I read and the screen shots look really nice, they've fixed pop in apparently and most of the recent updates have been minor bug fixes/polish so it looks to be on track for the date they are aiming for. I can't give you any first hand information as I forced myself to uninstall after the prawn update to avoid spoilers, it was already a really good game then.

There have been several minor ones after that too, but that one was the biggest change I think. I did pop back to take another look but I'm just waiting for 1.0 to play through it all again.

Thinking back it's amazing how much the game has changed, not knowing anything about the plot, or even if there was one really, to where we are now. Early access done right.

Some pop ins are still in - and I bet they won't find a miraculous solution - but it's sensibly better than before. Yes visual enhancements are great, as for UI, cockpits, and the story arc is excellent.

I've been playing Subnautica since the December Update in Hardcore mode, figuring the game would kill me before I reached spoiler territory. I'm now approaching 70 hours in that save. You know a game is good when you start busting out the corkboard, pushpins, string, and try to remember your high school geometry. ;)

I've been having so much fun that Elite has become my "weekend" game, instead of my primary game. I even gave up on a Buckyball race, because this darn game kept whispering in my brain: "It is your primary mission to dive deeper..." :)

There's always some pop-in, not a big deal as long it's better than it was. Although it used to be handy for finding things in sea grass.

I would have liked to have seen a alternate reality version of this game, where development took it in the direction of a procedurally generated infinite ocean to explore.

Oculus Touch support yet?

I don't know about Oculus Touch, but I just quickly checked the Vive controllers, and I can do everything I'd normally do in the regular game except open the PDA or use the hot bar. Don't have time to play around with it, but I'm going to do some research while on break at work, and see if I can figure out how to work the rest of this.

I'm pleasantly surprised. Last time I tried the Vive, all I could do was use the left and right triggers.

Agreed.

I was hoping for this too, but now I'm 100% OK with their decision:
- The narrative is really cool and quite tied to your tech tier progression and your exploration
- There's a "ton" of PG survival games and for most of what I played, if the beginning is pure joy (and even the first core loops are often ejoyable again and again), they have hard times keeping the distance. The only one that perfectly nailed renewal of progression on the distance remains Terraria. Starbound is quite close too, but lacks something I can't point my finger on. The curated world of Subnautica may be less huge, but given how carefully it's been made I'm pretty sure how short the trip is it will remain constantly interesting till the end.

My 2cts, though :)

recently played this after a long time away. The game has come on in leaps and bounds in every way. Really enjoying it.
