Galaxy Map question:

Hi Commanders

I am much taken with the function in the Galaxy Map that shows the star systems you have visited (or not visited),
My questions are: When did this start? (As it does not seem to have highlighted many of the systems I have certainly visited in the past.)
... or; Is there a finite limit on how many of one's visited systems that can be retained by the map database?

Thanks for any insight :)7

It's always been there to a degree. If you want to make it permanent you need to play the explorer game which is to scan everything in system and then sell it to Universal Cartographics.

If not sold, you will lose that data should your ship be destroyed and the system will revert to an unexplored state.

Easy way to make money in your first days.

Are you talking about the visited systems drop down tab in galmap, or first discovered on the system map (in yellow)?

I think the filter for visited/not visited arrived with patch 2.2.

However, it only works for systems visited since then, also I believe the data is not stored server side but locally your PC.
So if you to a clean install or PC rebuild the data is gone.

I have a vague memory of a thread working out what file to backup to retain the data.

"Are you talking about the visited systems drop down tab in galmap, or first discovered on the system map (in yellow)?"

I'm meaning the red "not visited" and light blue "visited" colouring of the systems in Galmap when you apply the Visited/Not Visited filters to the map.

Yes all systems are stored locally. It's what things such as EDSM and EDDiscovery use to display every system you have visited since I think it was Oct of 2016 when the scripting changed and it because automatically recorded. Before that date, you actually had to manually turn on the scripting to get the record of it which many of us never knew about and never got our old exploration routes recorded.

The journal files (*.log) are located here:
