You Are Going To Need A Materials Collection Ship.

AspX. Gets the job done. For mining, I'll either go with the ever-modular Conda, a Python, or a Type 7. I don't have the rank for a Cutter.

Just finished engineering a type 7 for this exact purpose. Reading the notes from some guys in beta, I saw that material drops have gone from three per pickup to one. Figured the writing was on the wall. On the plus side, I'll finally have a reason to take the ship out of dock every now and again.

Moar excitement!

Yeah, kinda more than a bit worried about this.

Just spent a few nauseating hours in VR bouncing and twisting and turning and flying around planets gathering mats for engineering (I like being planetside, but not for hours on end mat farming). Getting 3 per pickup helped a LOT. Going back down to 1 would be ... nauseating.

Nah, it'll be fine. They'll be saying, move along, nothing to see here.

Drops have not gone down from the current three, and the patch notes don't mention anything of the sort either.

I concur. I did a fair bit of material collecting in the beta to test out the engineering. I was collecting three per pick-up, as usual.

Cool. Sorry to have caused any panic. Not in the beta myself - just read someone else posting elsewhere in the forums that they'd gone from three to one. Thanks for the clarification!

A Sidewinder with enhanced drives is all you need. It's fast, can get in and out of the station at full speed without waiting, can carry everything you need, is very agile in supercruise, can carry everything you need. Why would you want anything else?

Dolphin. The restricted slot holds 32 tons. There is more than enough internals for most anything. Has decent shields. Is fast. Great range. Good visibility. Tiny. Mighty. Good alternative to Cobra.

I had one for a long time. Use Orca or Asp mostly for that now.

I'll just leave this here.

Clipper works really well. Plenty of room for limpets. Only drawback is a bit short on jump range, but fun to fly an works well planetside.

Speed, storage, plenty of room for everything you need to collect mats, even if you want to do it by mining.

You will need a frame wake scanner, a collector limpet controller, cargo hold for limpets, and maybe an SRV.

This means ships with lots of slots, and lots of utility mounts.

Cobra 4 and Python are obvious choices. What's yours?

None. I am doing the engineering for Chieftain modules in 2.4 --- and will wait to engage in 3.0 engineering when inevitably, 3 months after go-live, the G1 > G5 is reverted to something like what we have now, or another change that will make G1 > G4 less punishing.

So, I am preparing to go into a "dry period" again, just like during the commodity requirement times. Sometimes you just have to say "no, this sucks, and i simply won't engage in it". Like PowerPlay.
