Dove Enigma UA bombed, preventing completion of its voyage in time for the man it was named for.

I understand this is acceptable game play as in not an exploit but it is B.S. and a pretty low thing to do. In this case an exception should be made and some handwaviom be done by FDev. Yea it makes for a good story and all because yes the community will step up but damn, block this kind of thing out for his sake and the timeframe he has. I mean really?!?

Oh I'm doing something... I've got plenty of media contacts that are being made aware of this... once I did that, the CM from FDev said they are "internally investigating."

I'm doing the human thing by supporting someone who said this really hurt him, and getting developer response.

Not with Meta Alloys... with media coverage.

Hi there, I have some thoughts I'd like to share. Ideally I'd like them to be read by people at frontier but not sure how to or who to send them to. If some one had an Idea how I could, that would be great.

Firstly I think it might be useful for everyone to re state the situation surrounding this as I understand it. CMDR DoveEnigma13 a fan of elite has been battling cancer and had expressed a wish to undertake a memorable journey within the game while they were still able. This convoy/expedition was organised by the community to help facilitate this request. Frontier developments themselves generously got involved and created a mega-ship in honour of CMDR DoveEnigma13 which has become part of the expedition. Its my understanding that CMDR DoveEnigma13 was very happy about this. A gentle reminder that this is not a memorial in game (as has been stated) as CMDR DoveEnigma13 is pleasingly still here and playing elite.

This next bit is really for Frontier.

By becoming involved in this endeavour (which I think is absolutely amazing by the way) you have opened yourselves to some complexity’s. Your actions have brought pleasure to CMDR DoveEnigma13 in their current situation but unwittingly (through entirely well meant and generous behaviour) you have also opened up the situation where the CMDR can be hurt or disappointed. In normal circumstances this would be of no consequence, risk being married with reward. However in this very special situation I would suggest that if it were me I would very much not want to be in the situation where anything I did could lead to ,by myself or others actions, disheartening or hurting the CMDR in their current circumstances. It's like that scene in the TV series Band of Brothers where one lieutenant chastises another for joining in playing cards with the men for money, he states “You must never put yourself in a position where you are taking anything away from these men” (quoted from memory). They are talking about a duty of care to their men's well-being who are at risk of death. I would tentatively suggest Frontier that because of your involvement in creating the mega ship you now subsequently have a duty of care to CMDR DoveEnigma13's well-being. I would suggest you talk to the commander directly to see what they would like to happen. Personally would probably remove the black market and the threat of UA bombing rather than making emergent game play from real life emotional distress.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is a complex situation and you have been clearly and generously getting involved to help and support CMDR DoveEnigma13. I just think there is a point being missed here about what your priorities should now be going forward.

Happy to talk about this further if its of use

Thanks x

Well, if one wanted to promote the event, create a significant public attention to it and rally the community behind it, getting many, many CMDRs to travel 50KLy in a very short time, this would be the perfect script for it. The events unfolding and the very good timing, 12 days of Enigma remaining, suggests to me that there is more to this story than one should think.

And it could also backfire terribly if not handled very delicately. The subject matter is highly sensitive to many people, myself included, so naturally emotions are running high, perhaps a bit too high.

Now I didn't sign up to the Enigma expedition, because I'm already on a fairly long one with one of my CMDRs. However I have other CMDRs available, so having read the news today about the Dove Enigma, I've decided to aid with Meta-Alloys against the Thargoid Sensor related interference for this very worthy cause.

I must also admit that I was puzzled reading the GalNet article prior to seeing this thread about the Dove Engima, Colonia: "Who would transport Thargoid Sensor's all the way to Colonia and why?". Now I know the why. Regarding the who, I suggest the one's responsible for the planning and the execution, to wait for calmer weather for a full disclosure.

Anyway, headed for Colonia with some Meta-Alloys.

Well, I did sign up for the Enigma Expedition, having alfready started the Luxury Tour expedition and suspending that to do this one. I’m two waypoints away from the destination, and I’ve decided to turn around and get meta alloys some 17kLY away.

I'm sorry for the hand that both you and your daughter have been dealt. I simply cannot imagine what kind of resilience it must take for each of you on a daily basis to soldier through it all. Your attitude speaks to your strength of character and I'm sure your daughter has inherited it from you.

And I agree about the instant lifetime ban.

I could go to my nearest cancer ward, set up a lawn chair and laugh at each and every cancer patient coming and going through the door. I could mock them and taunt them and call them derogatory names. I could follow them to their cars and blame them for their lot in life- that they deserve it and are getting what's coming to them.

But I don't. Why?

Because I have more than a scintilla of humanity and decency.

I can't do anything about someone doing that IRL if they so chose to. Perhaps a legal argument could be made that they should stop; perhaps it's their freedom of speech. But it's out of my control.

In a game like this, just because something is possible, doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it. Unlike in real life however, Frontier has the power to do something about it.

I'm not saying that Frontier should remove the black market or play with the coding to remove the black market as some have suggested or to disable the ability to UA bomb the ship. I actually think that this is an opportunity for the decent among us to step up and show the vile slime mold (I love that moniker btw) that we're better than them. Prove to them that if they can make the trip for hate, the better among us can do it for the greater good. Mucking with the coding is akin to letting SDC (or whoever it was who was responsible for coordinating this atrocity) win and that seems wrong on every level.

What I think Frontier should do however, is to create some backstory that would allow them to identify the individuals responsible and to place a bounty on their heads so large that any mercenary in a Corvette or FDL wouldn't be able to resist taking them down. Make their lives absolute misery as long as they choose to play in open. Make them wanted throughout the entire bubble. If there were ever a justification for naming and shaming, let this be it.

I lost my mother to glioblastoma in August (brain cancer- same as Gord Downie, Beau Biden, Jimmy Carter, John McCain to name but a very few). She fought it for a year and a half. I was with her on her deathbed as she died. I held her hand and watched her breathe her last. It was the hardest thing I've had to do - absolutely nothing has compared. The best thing I've ever done was take a month and a half worth of leave from work to fly out to spend the time with her in her last days. It was the thing that made her most happy -seeing me every time she woke up (she was sleeping almost 22 hours a day towards the end). She would always smile when I came to her. I will never forget her face - bloated from the dexamethosone and caked with sleep around her eyes as it was, light up when I came by her bedside.

If this ship gives DoveEnigma a smile, then there's every reason to fight to keep it alive.

Meself and me daughter lost someone very close to us when she was barely old enough to have a clear memory of what she looked like to cancer. As though mother nature and her sense of humour thought itd be funny to make it a genetic cancer that affects women only...my daughter is so far only missing about 14% of her right lung so far. Shes 15.

She got my autism and her mums cancer...cool thing to grow up knowing ye probably wont reach old age.

However...onwards and upwards. Reading through this thread has been a good reminder to me why I stopped using this forum, but Ill bite my tongue on what I could say to some only to say ye understand nothing until ye live with it and watch it take everything and everyone ye care about. The watching part is the worst...ye know its bad when ye aint prayed since ye were 6 but ye pray to God to just take them in the end...in the end, death is a mercy.

I dunno who did this thing...but its a sign of a very toxic element of players...a few of whom Im starting to see here and there on these forums recently. This place got boring, no sense of humour just salt salt moan moan...bored wandered off so forgive me if I admit to not knowing anything about this entire venture until now.

Tis a shame on this community to know players like that are still here...such an act, using legitimate game tactics or not, still constitutes the most toxic form of griefing there is. Imho, that should be an instant lifetime ban in any game ^

It's carbon-copy to why I hit Jacques with UAs. I actually hoped it still reached Beagle Point, but it didn't. Beyond some RP science, my main goal was to damage a popular station just before it got sent to the other side of the galaxy, and create a "virtual" event for people to come together and fix it with MAs.

I've been on a break for a few weeks, although I still read the forums. After reading about this, I logged in, jumped into my long range Conda, filled it with meta alloys and renamed her "FOR DOVE".

I don't use neutron jumps but I've got an engineered FSD and a big fuel scoop. I'll be jumping for the next 12 hours or until I start falling asleep at the controls. Enough with the negativity, I'm off to do something positive.

There's a very rapid, very easy change that would immediately solve this problem:

Disable the black market that has very little reason to be there.
No. That would prevent further UAs being sold, but wouldn't otherwise affect the status of the station - UA bombing when it goes into the "shutdown" stage tends to kill the black market along with most other services anyway. Horse, stable door, bolted.

(If you want "rapid change" then Frontier could in principle go in and add "1 million" to the "meta alloys delivered" total for the station - though the effects of that wouldn't be visible until next week - but it sounds from the number of people and factions declaring deliveries that this won't be necessary either)

The entire existence of the station in the first place is hand-of-god handwavium. Correcting an oversight isn't really an extension on that...

God's Speed Commander Paladin! :) Hope your coffee maker on the Conda is still working. Mine broke last week, but that's a whole other story. ;)

Ah, good point. It's still a trivial change :)

Last thing on this....

It is totally ok to be angry to person, even if it was done using in-game rules. It is same as griefing - you might be using in-game tools, but in the end what you achieve grief to real person, not to imaginary one.

However lashing out to devs, to others, starting pulling meta things....it just increases toxicity and proves person's point. He is here to trigger you. And if he successfully triggers, he has proven his point.

Just don't let him do that. Condone and move on.

Better reason than why I did it. I was hoping itd go.all.event horizon :D

Emergent gameplay emerges.
Stop crying and do something about it if it is important to you.

Edit: just wanted to note i have nothing to do with that nor do i know anyone.
I wish the commander it was named for all the best and hope he keeps his spirit. And i hope enough people correct the issue. Waiting for FD to do it is not necessarily the ideal course of action. And i am not sure whether i actually like the course of action at all.

You used the pronoun ‘I’ in your response an awful lot.
But this is your time.
Your ascendant, lets see what kind of a world/galaxy folks like you can create.
Maybe it will be better... somehow.
