Aren't you just giving them EXACTLY what they want? You're modifying your behaviour because of them...you're reacting to them, you're engaging with them...
1. Actually, I don't care what they want.
2. I do want to engage them. Because if they are busy with me, they won't be harassing others.
3. I'm modifying my behavior because I think it would be
fun. Selecting targets and watching explosions, my own included, is much more fun for me than heaven forbid, grinding for pharmaceutical isolators or going from A to B. I like learning how to maneuver ships. These ganking pilots are most likely more skilled than myself, so I might learn something.
4. I am not asking for suggestions out of contempt for gankers. I'm asking for suggestions to be more effective at interfering with their attacks. As I said in my original post, gankers currently have the right to do so in Open; this is a sandbox game. Hopefully, Fdev will implement a working C&P so that gankers activities are more proscribed. It's a question of what is and what entails and to what extent freedom of expression is and that is something my little brain recoils at thinking about.
5. Actually, thus far, my game play has been completely in Solo. But now that I'm bored in Solo I thought I would trundle off to Open and poke some fun.
6. No matter where one goes or what medium one engages in, there will always be people with whom one disagrees. I agree, ignoring gankers as best one can is one of the best solutions. However, although I have ignored the gankers, I cannot ignore the deep frustration and despair of their innocent victims. Perhaps my foolishness will help prevent one Commander from being blown up; that's worth it to me. This is an evolving game and until Fdev have developed and actually implemented more security, I might as well play vigilante and have some fun.
