Proposal Discussion Halloween special paint-job

Ahoy there mates,

as the topic does hint, halloween is closing in.
Now many games online do field special items or skins for this event.
I do not believe FD will put up something like Halooween-Skull paintjobs,
or exploding pumpkin missiles.

But how about this:

A nightmare has come true.
On Octobre the 31st of 3000 an increased number of cargo haulers have been intercepted, along the route from Aulin to Eranin.
They report freaking out navigation equipment, and a creepy voice
echoing over the comms, telling them:
"Quoth the Eagle, Nevermore."

A single flash of light then illuminates the void of space,
the "shields down" alert starts ringing in the pilots ear, and the sound of torn hull in the cargo section, reports of a quick successfull blasting of the cargo hatch.

While the scanner registers the flooding out cargo, the pilots can hardly make out a silhouette of an Eagle, colored in grey as base, with black wings spread on its upside.

After the cargo has vanished, the nav unit returns to nominal state,
only the ripped hull and the flight recorder, tell the story of this robbery.

What do you think, Commanders?;)

I'd love a holiday paint job. Pilots are eccentric, so I can definitely see a bounty hunter in the spirit of the halloween season adorning his ship with grim reapers or a cargo hauler sprucing his ship up with a Santa's sleigh theme come Christmas season.

The arguments against holiday camo are essentially a rehash of the ones against regular camo. The presence of camo schemes in the cash shop are testament that those arguments have been considered and discarded.

You can always hide in solo mode if you get so terribly offended by how someone likes to dress up their ship.

I suggested holiday-themed weapons and such a couple of months or so ago and the reaction wasn't favorable.

Ahoy,
that is why i tried to include a bit of a "ghost story" which might actually become a USS encounter:)

I wouldn't personally like to see anacondas hurl pumpkins at you with their plasma-accelerator;)

I'm up for a bit of holiday injections. Bobbleheads seems a natural and FD could even sell the bits via MT if they had a large variety pack you got with purchase.

Maybe they could also have an Options setting for grumps that only want their form of realism so 'holiday surprises' could be turned off. Seriously if they could do that it would be a good option so everyone is happy. Not sure how much coding effort a switch or in-game holiday stuff would be. Naturally all cultures have holidays they celebrate so expecting the game to be sanitized of them seems to be removing an element of immersion and depth.

I hope to see Santa flying through the galaxy around the Winter Solstice on Sol. It might make a homesick pilot feel a litter closer to Mother Earth.

Same here - For a paintjob, I find it a bit over the top.

Although holiday bobbleheads is a different story for me. I still use the christmas tree for my sidewinder! :D

True, bobbleheads would be fine because I don't get to see yours.:D

(I've never flown with a bobblehead in my cockpit because I simply don't like them, neither ingame nor in reality.)

Or just keep it low key - inject some 'Express pumpkin/toffee apple delivery' missions into the game in the last week of October. I'd like it, though, if there were a hint of in-game calendar events in the game universe - for example for We Love The King Day there were fireworks around the station, or there might be a microgravity flyer regatta happening inside the station as part of some sporting event.

You hardly ever see us anyway. 99% of the time, if you even encounter us in the void, our ships are a simple wireframe on your instruments or a targeting icon on your hud.

As far as I'm concerned, any argument regarding paint jobs breaking immersion is completely baseless. If anything, the absence of crazy paint jobs would be the immersion breaking oddity. Eccentric paint jobs and wild nose art are as old as aviation itself.

i can see a few pirates sporting the skull paint job year round, could look quite good if its done right.

+1 vote from me just for the added variety, if every ship was identically painted it would be a bib boring, these are privately owned craft, not military vessels in a uniform.
