Other CMDRs stealing my bounty

It is annoying, I'll grant that. There are a few things you can to turn the tables though.

1. Make sure Report Crimes Against Me is Turned On, and park yourself in their field of fire. Not quite as useful in Haz RES or CNB's, but at least you're in their way.

2. Block them and re-enter the instance.

3. Carry at least 1 rack of Seeker Missiles for a Quick End.

4. Pull directly in front of their canopy and trigger chaff. It's supremely annoying.

5. Drop a heat sink right on their canopy. It's also supremely annoying and blinding.

6. Park. Yep, just sit there. Don't shoot at anything, wait for them to make the first move and steal their kills and then send a local message along the lines of "Was it good for you?"

My home system controlling faction is our player minor faction. Most bounty kills that get traded in go to the controlling faction, not all but most, so I don't personally care whether and NPC is killed by me or by another Cmdr, so long as the little NPC wanted bogger gets brassed up and the bounty gets handed in, it's a win. I am not going to lose and sleep over losing out on 30K :D

Last hitting / mob claiming has been a thing for a long while OP, not just in Elite.

Yes and many games are terrible because of it. Look at 90% of all MOBAs, they have it only because DOTA had it, which had it only because the WC3 engine could not support anything else (it was a mod, after all).

The MMOs genre has long since adopted shared rewards, usually not even proportional to damage - everyone who hits a mob gets full reward. It encourages working together without the need to stop what you are doing to team up, it creates emergent team work even when the other player(s) would not bother to create a party (for example, they are just here for a short quest and will be gone in a minute), and eliminates all forms of kill stealing, mob tagging etc. Same with resource nodes, where earlier MMOs would have resource nodes that despawn when one player collects it, modern MMOs have shared resources (e.g. the resouce node stays for a while after a player has collected it, allowing others to still collect it was well).

Experience has shown the games are much more enjoyable that way, because the vast majority of players don't want to go into PvE seeing their fellow players as competition or enemies, but as allies.

Why is OP against winging up? Literally would solve all the problems, and there's plenty other games that have similar mechanics.. pretty much every MMO lol. GW2, farming same area as some other dude? add him to your party and disband when one of you leaves!

There's no design problem here..

As for whether or not people will accept? I've invited people to my wing dozens of times while RES hunting, and every single time they accepted! Just do it! :p

Last Cmdr that stole a kill from me quickly found them selves in front of a rebuy screen.

Why cmdrs don't want to won't up now that everyone gets the full bounty I don't know

PLEASE FD change the way this works. People are hanging back watching you do all the work and then stealing it at the last minute. It's infuriating. It leads me to hate other players in the game. It should be split equally or apportioned as per damage inflicted...anything other than whoever gets the last hit.

very easily fixed.

Never play in open. Never. The vast majority of other human players add absolutely nothing to the enjoyment of this game. If you want that human interaction, but with decent folks rather than sociopaths, join a private group.

This has the added advantage that it annoys the forum denizens who have rushed to moan at you even more. There's no better feeling than reminding the gankers and antisocial mob that you (and a huge number of other players) are having great fun, in spite of their fury about it, in an environment which is exactly the same, apart from the fact that they are not invited.

harvest the ganker salt, and enjoy! :D

Do you people in this thread really think kill stealers are going to want to wing up? Don't be naive. They're doing it because they get off on ruining other people's gameplay.

The only way to avoid the schoolyard bullies, since FDev is too scared to do anything about them, is to boycott Open and play exclusively in Private or Solo.

Why even do your RES Farming in OPEN?

If you're worried about credits, OPEN is not your friend if there are other CMDRs there.

I warned someone to wing up or leave.
Needless to say her lack of response to my wing request brought about a rebuy screen for him.
It was fun and naughty.

I apologized to a cmdr yesterday because I swooped in and stole one. I explained I hadn't seen the hollow triangle.
I chose to send a wing request and made that cmdr more money then they would have seen all night.

Wing up with an experienced cmdr and be prepared to go to war.
FD please don't fix this, its not broke.

LOL winging up to kill NPCs - I can't think of anything more boring - I'd rather unlock Palin from scratch again! [blah]

Oh, unless they are noobs & I'm feeling philanthropic...which I have done a few times.

If winging up against NPC's is boring... it's probably you. Now wait, hear me out here, this isn't a slam or an attack... Wings are social groups. If you're not social, if you don't talk or type to your Wing mates, only you can do something about that. Now there is always the chance you may find someone without a mic, or someone who is deaf, or someone who doesn't speak your language - this does happen, but that doesn't mean the experience has to be boring. Granted, it rarely takes more than one person to bring down an NPC or 200 - and yes, a "My Plasma shot" + "Your Cannon Shot" = "Dead NPC" isn't exactly what I'd call an exciting battle - but that's where you come in again - you don't have to gang up on the same NPC's, you can spread out, pick separate targets.. there are all manner of things you can do.

I happen to enjoy sitting back, letting a fighter get in the fray, and using Regen Sequence beams on my wing mates, tossing an after-battle Repair Limpet, and engaging with my actual ship as little as possible.

At the end of the day we are all responsible for our own amusement.

If they don't join my wing after repeated requests, I take their shields out. I probably won't do this anymore until they become wanted from FF.

I notice most kill stealers are noobs who have no idea what they are doing and suck at noticing chat.

Waaaah - the nasty man called me boring, Mommy!

Oooh, I was just sharpening my kb to casually savage you using just 50% of my wit - which incidentally, inspired my nickname - but instead, I found myself in full agreement with what you had to say (with a small proviso: that the spawns are good enough - which far too often they aren't, in my experience!)

This.is.awkward....grrrr +1

...& your last line couldn't be more apt considering what I'm doing right now! [blah]

Kill stealing is legitimate gameplay in ED. Don't like it? Then retaliate against the kill stealer. Hell, even NPCs do it! :)

I completely concur with the spawning. I've long since lost track of how many Haz RES has had only one hazard - me.
Sometimes though... every so often, you get a real treat and will find yourself heading for the nearest station before you realize it, because you're out of ammo and your voucher book is full. This tends to be the exception far more than the rule, but it is spectacular when it happens.

Sometimes leaving and re-entering the instance helps, sometimes it doesn't. Praise RNGesus.

When this happens I like to spend the rest of my time trying to get between the kill stealing CMDR and the ship s/he's shooting at. Try and force them into 'WANTED' status. It's quite fun, just trying to always be in their line of fire, I mean really get up in their face and try to force an error or they get sick of it and leave

Yeah, they are real gems. Shame I always need to go AFK, go bio etc just as I realise I got a good one.
