Frame Shift drive ...

Oh dear...
As title, I've 'perfected' the art of dropping out of FS drive near stations.

In fact, too near - there does not seem to be a reliable way of dropping out at around 10 km unless I am missing something ??

For the third time I have dropped out and smacked into the station and kaboom!
There goes several hours trading and cargo.

I would like an autodropout at a set distance rather than hit the button and hope..

Any thoughts?:mad::mad:

The 'Safe disengage ready' appears just the 1000km passed (and appropriate speed - in the blue part, have a look at the little left screen, there is distance & speed, blue is = drop time!) ... you can drop there, and you'll find out that you always be 20km far of the station. "Requesting granted" feedback starts at 7km.

Please FD explain why is it always 20 km?
When i choose to exit SC at 500 km WHY am i dropped at 20 km distance to the station?

It was picked as reasonable distance to drop out. You can get much closer with skill.

Michael

Hm ... that doesn't really answer my question i fear.

If i exit SC lets say 500 km away from the station then does it drop me out ALWAYS at 20 km?
I want to fly the remaining 500 km in normal mode ... just to see if something exciting (like bad pirates) is on my way before docking!

Just don't have the station locked as your current target. The safe disengage system needs a target to work.

I once managed to emerge inside the docking chamber of Aulin Enterprise.
I chose to quit practicing the art of station-dropping at that point.

If you are a car driver in real life do you routinely drive at 100mph everywhere and leave it until you're 50 foot from the car in front before you brake?

No?

Well ED is the same; due to lag/slow reflexes etc., always disengage SC in good time i.e. when you get the blue message pop up.
You will find yourself 20km away from the spaceport and you can then tootle in under normal power and dock as normal.

Sounds like a bug as I'd imagine you shouldn't be able to get closer than, heck at least 5km for safeties sake!

Report it using the bug ticketing system perhaps?

It is a beta and not a fully functioning game after all :)

I decided it's not worth the bother trying to get in closer than 20km, especially after the time I stopped with my nose actually touching the station. Now I pretty much drop frame shift as soon as I'm able - I just try drop out on the side facing the planet so I don't have to fly around the station to enter. 20km doesn't take long to boost across.

Ahhh .ok ...

Thanks for the info on the 'Safe Disengage'
I was wondering what it was.

I can get closer than 20 km by watching and dropping out manually but that's how I've smacked into the station three times, so this morning I have been aiming for about 15 km and usually get 5 to 10 km.

But 20 km is a nice safe distance - especially when I am living dangerous with all my money in cargo and 10 credits in the bank - to hopefully build up credits fast.

I will give it a go immediately and see how it goes. :D:D

PS re the FD, I also have the comment the drop-out 'juddering' for 20 seconds doesn't seem to serve any purpose (maybe its establishing P2P connections or something) and ideally should be a few seconds only, but I am sure you've got this feedback already

PPS to Georgio - well this isn't real life and it's fun to try to get as close as possible ... sometimes !!

Yep, works a treat.

Bit of the wuss's option, however :D:D

But it's a nice touch. Cheers!
BTW great game (of course...)
I'm one of the old guard - played on BBC in 1984...
