EDtracker no longer works in ED Horizons

Hi All

Got a nice birthday present mid December of 2017 - the Wireless EDtracker. It worked straight out of the box and it was truly excellent in-game. Then a couple of weeks ago (or thereabouts), the game simply stopped seeing it. I have searched for similar problems online but they all seem to relate to using to Windows 10 - not what I am am using.

So - relevant (maybe!) facts are:

I am running the current live version of Horizons - have not looked at the beta yet
OS - Windows 7 64bit
The EDtracker GUI sees and correctly responds to head movement - pairs and calibrates fine.
Running joy.cpl lists the EDtracker along with my Hotas setup (this has been there unchanged for ages). The movement test within Properties works here too.
Tried using Opentrack - this does see and work with the device ok - but still no sign in ED.
Looking in the Headlook settings in ED - relevant section re axis is now empty. On my first go I just had to move my head an it picked up and populated the settings entry - now nothing is picked up.
Have plugged and unplugged the dongle many times.

I can't see what has changed here - I really hope someone can help and can figure out what is going on - and really, really hope it is fixable!

Fingers crossed - thanks in advance for any help/insight offered.

henry1491 - many thanks for your Opentrack profile! - thanks for taking the time to reply and upload your file. I am using the same version of Opentrack as you - and EDtracker performs much better within Opentrack with your profile.

Unfortunately the big problem of Elite not seeing input is unchanged :(

The hardware is seen and works fine with EDtracker GUI, Windows Game Controllers, and Opentrack - just not in Elite....

Did you go and re-bind your EDtracker joystick bindings in the options controls menu? Are you using the Beta, as I know they changed names of some of the devices in the beta and of course that screwed up existing binding file names of devices (I think they are rolling that back).

Sorry to hear that - it sounds very odd - the problem would seem to be that ED isn't 'listening', or OpenTrack not talking in the right manner. I don't know if these will help, but here's a couple of screen shots. Some more detail on my OpenTrack setup (which may or may not make it across in the .ini file):

And here's the headlook section in my ED configuration:

If all else fails, here's my bindings file for ED - many/most of which will be different for you - but you never know...

Ignore the name - these are the bindings I use - I have a T-Flight HOTAS-X for flight, and an x-box controller for the camera. If all else fails, email the guys who make EdTracker - they have always seemed very responsive and super helpful. Good luck!

e. One final tip - assuming you get EdTracker working with OpenTrack, set the 'scaling' in the EdTracker UI to 1 for both 'pitch' and 'yaw', and response mode to 'linear' - else you may get some odd effects with the scaling curves in OpenTrack:

robbyp - no not on the beta; Elite won't accept any rebindings like it did the very first time - that's a big symptom of the problem I guess

Globusdiablo - thanks for checking all the versions and modes - that helps trim the failure possibilties down. Yes the tracker works in the EDTracker interface as well as opentrack

henri1491 - thanks for the screenshots - they are really helpful.... I tried the settings from opentrack but no joy. However the ED settings screen is very interesting - yours looks completely different from when it was working for me. At that time I had mouse look off, whilst the look up/down and left/right axis both had joystick entries created by moving my head. Now the entries are empty (like yours) and moving my head will not generate anything. But seeing your settings, these axis parameters are clearly not needed (now?)

I will try turning on mouselook (!) and see what happens. Be back shortly!

Fantastic news - it works!

Firstly mouselook was a red herring, tracker works regardless of that being on or off.

I think whatever changed to stop this working was at a fundamental level - no idea what though. Anyway did some testing and this is how it seems now:

EDtracker no longer works with my Elite by itself like it used to . However it does work with opentrack. I confirmed this my turning opentrack on and off whilst in the hanger. Works with opentrack on - nothing when off.

Now I have a horrible feeling that opentrack may have worked within the game all the time.... Let me explain!

The initial experience was that the tracker worked out of the box with no other software required (e.g. opentracker). This was obviously visible once the game had fully loaded (call it In the Hanger) but was also visible pre-Hanger at the main menu screen in the control options. Moving my head would always generate a "joystick" input in the axis settings. When it stopped working this was my method of testing for tracker input. At first I would check in the menu and then load into the hanger but the results were the same (failure) so I just stuck to the menu testing method; no input detected in the axes meant no input at all - or so I thought...

Then enter opentrack - still no input on the axes in the menu - by this time I had stopped going into the hanger to test so I assumed failure in the Hanger too .... but probably opentrack worked all the time?

Thankfully henry1491 included a screenshot which showed that a working setup did not have to have headlook axes configured. Because of this I went to the hanger and discovered all was well. Awesome!!

In summary - Tracker (for me) no longer works directly with Elite, but my flawed testing technique prevented my seeing that it does work with opentrack. Why the change - darned if I know!

Thank you all for you help and input - particularly henry1491 - without those uploads I would have remained stumped - great stuff much appreciated :)

I've never used Opentrack, and my EDTracker wireless pro works just fine. I just plug and play with E: D. No idea why you're having issues.

Personally I like OpenTrack as it enables head roll, as well as pitch and yaw, which feels far more natural for me. It also allows for more response-curve customisations, asymmetric response curves, and better fine tuning overall.
