Paintjobs Request : Mix it up a bit

Pick a ship, any ship.
Now pick a paint job, pretty much any paintjob.

Aside from the Vibrant. Pick anything but that.

Most all of these are some color and pattern, be it stripes, or lines, in that color, and either a base color under it, or the basic ship color under it.

It would look great, on a huge number of ships, to replace that "base" color with chrome or gold.

For example:

Instead of the grey/white areas, add a nice metallic gold or silver/chrome, and you've got something that looks really sharp - and I hate this ship.

Visualize silver or gold in place of White, and you've got Win - and I do like this ship.

Art guys, c'mon! This would sell, and sell so well they'd buy you the Good Tea.

I have always wondered why artists put things like "intakes" on a space craft! And wings, why do some of out ships have wings? (and things that look like vertical stabilizers) Seems silly as they have no purpose.

Agree with OP, that would look good.

And Bounty Hunters need love too! We have Pirate Faction paint job, why not Bounty Hunter faction! And a decal for the Galactic Organization of Recovery Enforcement (GORE)

Far enough into the future that energy density is no longer an issue and space travel is mundane there will still be boy racers pimping up their rides ;)

Chris Foss' stuff is awesome.

I guess that, ideally, the detailing could be flogged as "decals" so you could buy a "paint kit" and a "decal kit" to get any look you wanted.

Surely FDev would approve too, since it'd mean most people would end-up buying 2 things for each ship rather than 1?

I just want to be able to change my paint job on the fly, anywhere I want to without having it tied to livery. If I could do that, I would have bought far more than the one paintjob I have bought.

How is it 'tied' to livery? The paint job is the livery. Its like saying I'd like to change my weapons at anytime without it being 'tied' to hardpoints.

Changing the paintjob in the station makes sense. I can't have my car resprayed without taking it to the bodyshop. I certainly can't have it changed at will while out and about in the scottish highlands.

Some of the paint jobs are bit dull and unimaginative, which is why I haven't bought many. It also kind of annoys me that when you buy a paint job, you only get it for one ship type.

The server costs and the staff salaries do not pay for themselves.

No monthly subscription means other ways to make money are required.

The make less money if I don't buy anything at all. Besides, bobble heads, fairy lights, weapons colours, etc work across multiple ships. They could do a discounted/value multiship paintjob pack.

Yeah but other ways probably isn't best equalled to charging for yellow paint.

Was just talking about this in another post, they should sell stickers, sell layers, sell and expansion/dlc to allow editing your own skins.
The trick is to bring in enough players that you don't need to sell skins though.
Bringing in the ability to do it yourself ship artwork design will also increase the player base.
Personally I spent more time in Forza designing artwork for my car, than I did racing. (and I'm a terrible artist but I got my project done!)

To clarify when I say they should sell stickers (as they obviously already do) they should sell more, and they should unlock the ability for you to free place them on your ship and select colors on them etc.

Exactly, I might actually buy something like that.

There is an inherent danger with giving people this ability, and I'm pretty sure we all realize what that is.

If you're unsure, let me ask you this: Would you really want to see someone's Cobra coming right at you if the top decal looked like a bum?
Or how long would it take for someone to make a "hair" decal for the engine section of an Orca?

And endless parade of things not suited for 4chan would occupy known space, and we'd all feel like we needed an Adult before long.

Best to keep this sort of thing out of the hands of the general populace.

I think only Call of Duty Black Ops (the first one) really had this problem, since then companies have learned how to add reporting and banning systems in for people who abuse their developer given right to design their own art in game. Actually the same people who would abuse this are probably the same ones I don't want to play in open with anyway, so let them abuse it and subsequently get banned saves me having to interface with them :D

I mean if you want to be the guy who worked his way up to an Anaconda or higher only to get yourself banned due to drawing stuff you knew was inappropriate at the time... it's your foot you are shooting. Guess that's just Darwinism at work lol

It's a PEGI 7 game, we're not going to be allowed to draw willies on our ships.
