Game is confusing

This game by its very nature is a bit confusing, thats part of the appeal to many of us, its good having a game that you actually have to think about rather than just browsing some wiki to help in my opinion.

good luck learning the ropes.

That's like telling someone to get in a car with no idea how drive or even start it and tell "well lets see what you can do"....I find that very......**********

Thank you.

I got through half of them.I quit when I got squashed by 3 vipers.

ED is a game that requires you to learn through paitience and trial and error. Its quite unforgiving that way.

A full flight manual will likely be released with the finished product, but think of the fun you can have now learning the systems yourself, the forums are great for this as is a little perserverance.

I don't know what sort of games you are into, but it maybe this game is a little different to what you're used to.

But its the truth, its a very unforgiving game, its not possible to make a guide detailing everything about it, sussing stuff out is part of the game, if you want to know everything about it before you get started, you will end up very disappointed.

I am quite impatient.I'll admit that.

This is my first "space sim".

I play a variety of game of diff genres ...not alot of them kept me entertained for more than 2 weeks.

I am sure there will be a tutorial or final guide book on general release.

However its not viable to produce any of that at the moment as things change during the development process.

(look at Supercruse and Hyperdrive. Prem-Beta they were two separate things, now, currently, they are the same control, will this change, who knows)

I suggest taking a deep breath and a step back. The new crop of upcoming old school style space sims may not have instructor style tutorials and if Elite does it won't be until later when all the mechanics are in the game.

There is a set of single player scenarios.

Before each scenario a description will appear on the screen showing you how to control the ship.

Spend a while in the 'waste disposal' mission.

Just enjoy moving the ship around and playing with the weapons. Find a control system than works for you, try to boost and even mess around with switching flight assist on/off.

Go through each mission and read the instructions as you unlock them. They are hard missions, but completing the first three should give you the basics before heading into multiplayer.

It's supposed to be fun, but most people playing the Beta will spend a little time getting the game set up and controlling in a way they feel comfortable with.

I know you don't have much time, but there is some info in this sidewinders owners manual

The thing is because it is still a Beta things change at a regular pace. There is no use for FD or de Devs to create a manual which can change several times a week if need be.

That is why there is no solid manual to speak off other than the one that was already provided to you. This means that because you are considered a tester you have to figure out a lot off stuff yourself or snoop around on the forum. Through the search option you can find a TON of information about how this game works and what is expected of you at this time. Find a bug? Report it. That way the Devs and FD can make a balanced product at launch. This is still quite some time away however.

I understand your frustration, escpecially if this is your first Beta, but there will be many alterations to come the comming months. It's all part of the process.

I hope this clarifies it for you a little. And be patient. It will improve over time. ;)

No offense meant, but maybe this game in its current state isn't for you:

Currently a lot of features are missing, and you will encounter bugs (some of which will wipe out everything you earned in the last 8 hours). There is no tutorial except for the single player missions and some general guidelines on the website. Nobody will hold your hand and you will need to figure a lot of things out for yourself. This is not a 'beta' as advertised by most games, it is beta testing where things are still very rough and buggy.

And maybe the game is just not for you:
The game can be intimidating, hard, unforgiving and seem overly complicated, but will offer a wealth of combat mechanics (from cool-running stealth to dogfighting around asteroids), a variety of trade options, sandbox exploration and way more. There will (very likely) be tutorials, but I feel it will always be a game which has a rough learning curve. But once you get through it, you will find it has lots and lots to offer... If you get there is not up to us, but up to you.

Do you have what it takes commander?

I've been playing for a couple months now and thought I had a firm handle on most of the gameplay. Then I sat down with the Beta yesterday for the first extended stretch and got absolutely bewildered by the new fuel system and expanse of space.

It gets confusing sometimes... but that's precisely the draw for some (most?) of us. Space is big, dangerous, confusing, and hard to understand. Maybe you'll end up Elite... but you'll end up lost and dead -- many times -- before that.

There's no ingame tutorial what so ever

Been flying around in space jumping from Eradin to some other system trying to find things to shoot...not much luck...

currently stuck in super cruise no idea how to get out of it....

not a very good fist impression...

game missions don't even tell you where to go...

The forums have alot of info. And check out some youtube videos for tutorials.

How bout you back off if you have nothing to contribute to this thread besides the obvious...I would not be here if I hand't checked the settings and controls.( and apparently someone decides to name the "exit of SC button" as Frame shift bla bla bla. aka "J")

I know its a beta

and this is the 1st game I've played in a beta with no tutorial system.

The "obvious" thing would be smashing every button you have and see what it does. Or to go to the settings and test them all out.

The thing is that when you go into supercruise it clearly states "Frame Shift Activated" in the top right of your scren, so yes, Frame Shift is probably the thing you're looking for.

Then you have never, ever played a decent beta, you have been playing pre-releases where 95% of the game was finished. This is a beta, nothing is written down and you test anything you want. THAT is how a real beta works, and that is how FD finds out what does and does not work for the final game.

The single player combat scenarios are probably a good start if you want to shoot stuff first and get some idea of how a ship handles. Otherwise you're pretty vulnerable out there in the main game until you can earn some cash. I just run away from any fights while I'm saving credits for a better ship.

I just purchased Microsoft Flight and my plane doesn't do anything. I've tried pushing buttons and moving the mouse but it just sits on the runway. Stupid game, I haven't got time to learn anything about flying, I just wanted to have a go in a plane. Apparently I have to turn the engine on.. how stupid is that? I suppose I'll have to put fuel in it next and taxi it out onto the runway. Who the hell comes up with these games, I'm sure real flying is easier than this. If I wanted a full on Sim I'd go fly the real thing... pfffftttt...

Dude its a Space Sim...patience and devotion are mandatory.
If you wanna push power on and single button blow stuff up..I hear call of dutys fancy... XXOO

If your new to the game, you should play through the scenarios accessible via the main menu. They are tutorials, if somewhat basic versions. There are pages which appear as you begin each scenario, which list important things for you to learn as you play through each one. Jumping straight into the main game is a mistake unless your familliar with the basics.

I would recommend going to LP-981-32 system (the ont that has Freeport in it), and investigate the Unidentified Signal sources as you fly around. That should give you some stuff to shoot at.

@OP - A tutorial/manual will happen nearer the product being completed, there would be far too many 'blank pages' at the moment due to missing features. If you need help with anything by all means pm me.

@ Tox - quick question Tox, do you think repeatedly breaking forum rules is going to:-

a) harm your 'case', (and I use that term loosely)

or

b) benefit it?
