Don't want to press "J" because it's boring. Want to auto jump because... reasons. Not sure I follow OP
Needs to have some limits to it or you make a mockery of exploration.
Sounds like you are asking for a "Netflix mode". That's great for Netflix, but not so great for a game that's suppose to be about flying a spaceship. What I don't like is why I simply can't ask my NPC helmsman to follow my plotted course and tell me when I arrive, and if attacked by pirates tell me, so i can do something, or if we run out of fuel, tell me so i can do something, but for christ sake, don't make me jump manually as it can bring any sane person close to insanity.
Is there an official response from Frontier about whether they're considering to add Auto Pilot?
Don't know the game, can you set a course and it will follow that set course, or do you need to micromanage left and right until you get there?

Sorry, not really feeling it, OP. [down]
If you don't want to bother traveling across the galaxy, you don't have to, and everything within and near the bubble is within relatively close reach, Hutton Orbital not withstanding.
I think the issue is that many consider repeatedly pressing one button for dozens of hours on end isn't 'traveling across the galaxy'.

My alternative suggestions:
1. Pick a ship with a longer jump range (for long journeys). You can then request your slow ship is delivered to you (after you arrive). That's what I do.
or
2. Don't go on such long journeys. Find things to do that don't require such long distances. (There are lots.)

Absolutely this. Just automating boring nonsense is the cheapest of all thinkable solutions -> fail.
A lot of stuff was in design at the beginning.I want to remind all that this was in the design blue print at the beginning, so it’s not a new request, it also was in EFF.

So because of that you want to keep a game mechanic that is not fun, nor is it challenging in any way or form?
And automated is fun and challenging?? You're kinda contradicting yourself
