Did someone mention DLC?

No seriously, didn't someone mention DLC coming in 2018 that was separate from Beyond?

I ask because I haven't seen any further information on this (which is to be expected with Frontier) but I'm wondering how much I need to get my hopes up and where I sign up. See I've been pestering for a space tank over the last week and then I remembered about the potential DLC. New SRV types sounds very likely for that because it's not core gameplay and doesn't create a pay to win situation. I can't shoot down a cutter with my space tank (I mean, I'll try) and not all players even really care about ground mission stuff. I dunno, all speculation and I hope there isn't a dev somewhere scrunching the space tank design into a little ball because I nailed it. "If it's not a surprise then they're not having it".

So is there DLC coming separate and any ideas how big or small we are talking here?

one of the Devs said there IS some premium (aka paid) content coming in 2018.

but we have no idea what it is or when it is coming (though safe money will bet on at the back end of the year imo)

Yes, as well as the four releases/updates of Beyond this year, there is supposedly a DLC coming out Q4 as well.

Now there's precious little in Beyond Q1->3 that I suspect will interest me, but I'm pinning my real last hopes for the game on Q4. ie: With a clean slate and some solid development time:-
  • Some actual exploration mechanics of depth.
  • Some actual exploration content of interest. ie: More stuff to see. More diversity. More stuff to discover.
  • Some actual mining mechanics of depth. PLEASE lets have some stateful gameplay - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...eful-resource-hot-spots?p=6054187#post6054187
  • And a DLC to add something of true significance - My hope is for atmospheric landings. At least on lifeless planets, but possibly even with vegetation? Given we know there's exploration improvements coming in Q4, and there's talk of planetary graphics getting an update, this seems a logical tie in to me at least!
In short I'm hoping Q4 with show FD are raising the bar on the depth of the gameplay & mechanics they're now adding...

Where did they say premium content was Q4? I didn't think they had said when yet.

Being serious for a moment, I think it's going to be different ship voices as part of their partnerhsip with HCS. We already have the choice of Victor or Verity in the beta, there may be paid voice packs available through the store. They are easy to have as DLC because only you will hear them and they don't need to be replicated across all the servers so that everyone can see them, like ship kits and texture packs.

I'm just hoping the rocks overhaul creates some really brilliant planetary geology in Q4 - @OP I'm taking bets on basic atmospheric planet landings, clouds / precipitation etc for 2018 paid DLC.

Won't it be just ship kits for Chieftain and eventually Krait, as well as new liveries for those as well?

I think FDev have missed a trick when it comes to avatar DLC, they should be looking at the more extreme beards, eyewear, hats and the like, as getting something more extreme (or silly in the eyes of us olduns) is what people like to spend a few pennies on.

That is not premium content. In fact I wouldn't call cosmetics content at all.

Obsidian recently mentioned non earth like atmospheric landings, or the ability to enter gas giant atmospheres (I assume a variation on gathering resources)

He did get a tour of the office, and will be under NDA, although I guess there is nothing wrong with a tiny hint of the possibility of the first wave of atmospheric landings.

We'll find out eventually.

As others have said paid for DLC should be coming some time during Beyond. I wouldn't expect to see it before the end of Q2 but we'll see..
As for what, my guess is atmospheric landing - I'd expect this to be very limited, so no terran worlds or anything like that but I'm sure a few lifeless rocks with thin atmospheres could be made landable. Perhaps this could even be a landing pass with the idea being that once you have it you'll have access to all future atmospheric landing with the expectation that terran worlds may come later... Still, very much a guess. I'd be very surprised if it was space legs :)

I agree that cosmetics shouldn't be considered content. However while we are on the subject, Naval Uniforms... come one. Reservist personnel wear uniform in real life so why can't a rear Admiral do it in 3304 and Frontier could just have my wallet on tap for this.

I'm seeing lots of atmospheric landing speculation. Works for me if I can go there in my space tank. Gets to land on planet with alien vegetation, drives tracked vehicle through it

From my point of view the game developed very nicely since I play it. I started two weeks before Horizons was released (and thus I own a Cobra MkIV). Last week I watched and early Horizons video and was shocked how much the game changed since then.
I would very glady buy another DLC no matter what content. I would love to be able to stand on an lifeless planet with atmosphere wearing a respirator.

For me this game is epic, because it does not dictate a story to me. I can let my imagination do with it whatever I want. I can imagine being a space trucker this week and something completely different next week. I am free to ignore the lore and the thargoids and the background political intrigues whenever I want.

Cheers
