Does anyone else feel like Beyond is a graceful exit strategy ?

Fdev still owe lifetime expansion pass holders at least two more Horizons sized expansions for their passes to have been worth it. Otherwise it would have cost owners £80 more than buying everything separately..

They can't bail on this game for quite some years yet.. Otherwise they'll be paying out loads of refunds.

I hope that FD take some time and really consider the direction that ED has taken, then develop Elite II (or whatever). Use all the failings to create a true space MMO, with larger instances, better planetary tech involving cliffs and caves, with atmo and running around and all that jazz, that they just can't seem to shoehorn into this game. Give all lifetime pass holders a free first rung on the ladder. It would allow them to get over the corners they have put themselves in and generate new income, as well as develop COBRA 2 or even just start again with a new engine.

I'm note sure that ED can be retrofitted to become the game we all want it to be, but I'd be well up for a sequel in a couple of years. You think the playerbase would buy into it, and maybe increase it?

Lol, I think I said somewhere once that constant hate or love looses it's impact after a few hundred posts and turns into "oh them again".

There's quite a few people on the forum (probably 40-50) I can read a title and a forum name and usually guess what they are going to say before I read their comment <- Both those who criticise and praise the game + developers.

Now that's a talent I would love to have, but then you knew I was going to say that :)

LOL. You can always try 'that other space game' .. they might be starting over some time soon. ;p

That's not how they work is it? Nothing is gaurateed, you invest early in hope of getting a good return. It doesn't always work out that way though.

Funnily enough, people that has not been involved in the guardians / thargoids story, mainly the PVP crew had always thought that FD has done little to nothing on ED in the last year. But if you take a look at the effort and investment required into design and modelling, not only the assets but also the puzzles I'm pretty sure they had more than one resource involved pretty much dedicated sporadically to ED.. Again, as I say, if you haven't been watching the story evolve or interested at all you have been playing only a portion of ED.

It's not the saaaaaaame! I think Elite II could be a consideration for FD. They need something to compete with star citizen, because when it finally releases (if ever) it will look good. Let's face it, the tech demos they have produced are pretty good. Elite will look old next to it and Elite II could compete. Especially if they start research and development now while the funds are good from coaster and jurassic.

Why would we go back Elite 2. We are on Elite 4 at the moment. As to competing with star citizen, why do they need to. Very different games with a very different approach. Also star citizen may not even see the light of day.

Personally I love it and hate it. No reason why it shouldn't continue. Engineered ships will more than likely put off a lot of new players who just haven't got time to compete with 2 on 1 grade 5 ship ganks

I'm pretty new to the game, but I didn't know it was possible to land on atmospheric planets in Elite? Is this something in a beta test, or currently something we can already do?

Forgive my confusion over this post, I'm still getting my bearings and catching up on what the devs have done so far.

The guy you quoted in your post....no idea what he is talking about.....no atmospheric planets in the beta AFAIK.

He could be delusional, referencing another thread or another game entirely? Who knows....best to ignore it.

Depends how much theyre making on vanity items, I suppose.

If a company is making enough from paid-extras to keep the project going, why would you shut it down at all, rather than continuing to develop it and keep on selling that stuff?

I'm willing to believe that Beyond is a "gap year" for FDev, so the pressure is off for a year and they can pretty-much do whatever they want without people saying "Wah! You promised us moar stuffz!!!" but it's hard to believe they'd invest the effort in creating Beyond with the intention of pulling the plug afterwards.
If that's what they were going to do, there probably wouldn't be a Beyond "season" at all.

If you look at it from an investor's viewpoint, FD has hit every target pretty much dead center. They have a well earned reputation that can keep investors interested for the long term.

In that light, ED has to remain a viable product until at least 2022 to meet projected performance (8 years). FD has a stake in keeping it profitable until then. Anything afterwards is icing on the cake.

So, no. Beyond is nothing like an exit strategy. As FD has stated, it's primarily a quality of life series of updates. This bodes well for its future.

I'd go a step further; I think Beyond could be Frontier's way of getting away from the 'pre-sale' of expansions, which is a hang-over from the kickstarter. It's certainly an opportunity to; If they're able to develop Expansion season 4 during Beyond, then when it comes to publishing that Season 4 they may be able to sell it as a completed package, rather than as presale which Horizon's was. I think "take it or leave it" is an advantage because 'I paid for this, so what am I getting?" muddies the waters in the gaming press and player opinions, when it comes to reviewing whether or not the expansion is a good buy. It's difficult to tell before you've seen it.

The premium content is probly just some stuff from the store I am starting to suspect. The term premium content doesn't instill me with confidence to be honest.

Paid expansion(s) would have made me feel a lot better.

If they give us some free paint packs/in ship voice packs, well... that's not gonna be good.

It wasn't a kickstarter pledge, it was a lifetime expansion pass bought at the time of Horizons launch.

You can't sell lifetime expansion passes for 3 times the value of one expansion and then only make one paid expansion.. People would have good grounds for a refund if that were the case.

You can't? Why not? I see no legal issues with doing that?
