Must have downloaded the wrong beta...this ones called 4.0

Made by ToCoSo. It shows the possibilities of using Planet Coaster tech to create cities and atmospheric worlds in ED.

Now you've done it.

All the arm chair devs are going to have a riot saying stuff like;
"If someone can Photoshop a T9 on to something, then why can't FD give us atmospheric planets, like yesterday?! It's so easy!"

That said.
I want atmospheric planets now. Lol

I've actually said this when there were a bunch of negative nancies talking about how much money FD was allegedly funneling into Planet Coaster's development from ED (which has never been proven)

It's quite possible for them to use that same engine in order to channel development resources into ED- if that's the plan then all the better. That said, we could reasonably have BOTH Space Legs and Atmospheric Landings- complete with other things (plant life, buildings, etc.).

Why some people feel the need to suggest that FD's resources are "limited" for ED just because they have a separate game(s) they are working on is Beyond (pun intended) me. There's no "exclusion clause" that I'm aware of stating that the two departments can't work together within the same company, after all.

Nice work, can you imagine skimming that water at 850mps then flipping over and watching your wake disperse... Ah...

With any game involving water, that's the first thing I do.
Then I see what happens when you "ram" water. Lol

If ED ships don't create wakes, I don't want worlds with water.
:p

CMDR Thrust from Bradford is wondering how you got ahold of his beta from two years ago, and reminds you that he's currently running 5.0 (the main difference being that the water contains Space Fish (tm))

Hey, if it can withstand space, it should be able to withstand shallow water! To be honest, if they gave water the same impact hardness as rock, it wouldn't be far from accurate, but would have to also soften as speeds reduced, until at slow enough speed you should be able to 'fly' underwater up to 50m depth, unless someone wants to head-canon that shields are pressure resistant to any depth, so as long as shields up, go as deep as you like, that would be very, very nice.

That sounds like a lot of extra code though (or not?? perhaps), I'd settle for wakes and the water simply bouncing us, if I'm gonna be realistic. :)

I wonder, if we didn't have to go back and fix stuff that was already added, what would they be working on instead this year? If they had nailed the core game the first time, would we be getting atmo landings this year?

And how do you know they're *not* currently working on it in tandem already? Just because they announce improvements to the game doesn't mean they can't have other projects going at the same time. Development isn't exclusive to only one project at a time, is it? ;)

Atmo planets confirmed then? :)

Indeed. :)

Exactly! Any improvements in the Cobra engine can benefit other games too. I suggested this months ago on other forums and got absolutely hammered for it!

Its very possible FD have a team dedicated on the Cobra engine, extending its functionality, optimization, and bug fixing - and all that good stuff.

Wouldn't it be amazing if with spacelegs there was a full detailed rpg to go with it where skills learned could translate into ship bonuses such as increased yaw , pitch points, or special boost manuevers for the player or npc hired crew who also accompany the pc on the ground. And you could get invovled in rpg gameplay on a particular planet/city for weeks or months then take off for another planet to explore. Just musing at possibility.

Unfortunately, if those pics meant to be representative of season 4, I don't think the tech abilities are quite there yet to really display anything more than basic displays similar to what we have in the station dressing with the parks and small ponds. Of course I have faith they are still working on it and someday perhaps season/year 9 or 10, an atmospheric immersive and interactable world outside of the ship could be playable with the fidelity and quality.

Elite was never about leveling up your character. it's always been a sandbox where you can blaze your own trail and not need to worry about character stats.

It should look more realistic than the cartoony Planet Coaster. They could use procedural generation to populate the cities with structures and NPCs.
