Does anyone else feel like Beyond is a graceful exit strategy ?

People say this all the time and it makes no sense to me. "Very different games with very different approaches." No they're not. They're extremely similar and very easy to compare. What is so "very" different about them that you think they are in such exclusive categories that they don't even *compete* with one another? Are you crazy? They do the exact same job. Of course they are in direct competition with one another. There are *still* people who won't even touch E-D, won't even *consider* playing it; because they're convinced that SC us "gonna" be better whenever it comes out.

Tell me how E-D and SC are "very different"?

Its would be like saying star wars and star trek are the same. They are not. While the setting is the same, space, the feel, the atmosphere, the design is very different. That is a different approach to the genre. I am sure if/when space legs comes out I am sure it will also have a very different feel/atmospher to it.

Unless you criticize the one that "is" and then it's not a finished game, either..

Until someone compares it with SC, at which point it mysteriously gets "released" status assigned once more...

Because anyone can provide a "dream" but very few actually make it a "reality".

Difference is, one is tangible while the other isn't. Period.

Modern Star Wars and Modern Star Trek are basically the same type of extruded space Fantasy product and they both cater to the same audiences. And they are both directed by the same man.

Original Star Trek and Star Wars? Ok yes very different. I'll also say that the Frontier games and the Wing Commander games were very different game with very different approaches. ED and SC? Not so much. Just different scope and budget, but basically the same kind of game.

No. If FD were going to abandon the game, why put expenses into Beyond? Just discontinue the game now. Horizons is over, it would have been a good time to announce its EOL.

Convergent evolution is fairly common. A Cat's claw and a raptor's beak have very similar designs and do very similar jobs, but started as very different things.

Audience feedback similarly encourages the best bits of each franchise to be implemented in both.

The existing content from the store isn't free to LEP, so it can't be that. Hopefully not the voice stuff!

Premium content I strongly think is new game play elements. Using "Paid expansions" would have cleared up a lot of ambiguity.

The premium content is probly just some stuff from the store I am starting to suspect. The term premium content doesn't instill me with confidence to be honest.

Paid expansion(s) would have made me feel a lot better.

If they give us some free paint packs/in ship voice packs, well... that's not gonna be good.

After Horizons, Beyond is a good direction. Improve the core game play, and give confidence back to the player base. If Beyond is executed well, the more likely existing players will buy future expansions.

I'd go a step further; I think Beyond could be Frontier's way of getting away from the 'pre-sale' of expansions, which is a hang-over from the kickstarter. It's certainly an opportunity to; If they're able to develop Expansion season 4 during Beyond, then when it comes to publishing that Season 4 they may be able to sell it as a completed package, rather than as presale which Horizon's was. I think "take it or leave it" is an advantage because 'I paid for this, so what am I getting?" muddies the waters in the gaming press and player opinions, when it comes to reviewing whether or not the expansion is a good buy. It's difficult to tell before you've seen it.

I'm going to guess voice packs will be Frontier Store items, alongside the paint packs and ship kits, completely separate from the announced premium content. Having said that, if they do they will need to figure out how to let people preview the voices first.

That is because sc isnt the successor to wc, that is sq42.

I'll be picking up Wing Commander and its sequel on the SNES. Never played them as a kid since I was more of a NES kid then got into computers after that. Will also be picking up Elite for the NES, provided it'll work on my top loader, which I hear isn't region specific.

I'm not interested in Star Citizen; seems rather cultish to me and a scam to milk whales for pixel DLC bling packages. Just saying. To each their own though.

An nothing of Brabens dream has become tangible beyond the basic flight. Nor have fdev even TRIED to realize it. Too busy with numbers grinding Tedium.

Must get awfully wet with all that rain from the cloud over your head. Wish I had an umbrella to offer you. :)

Well, the COMPLETELY blew it with RNGineers overhaul. Just shifted the Tedium round a bit...

Not a good start.
