Voice comms

Forgive me for being new to MMO's and social gaming in general but, how do you use voice comms? Is a Discord acct required?

no

game has voice build in but it is limited to wing (4)

most groups therefore use discord now a days

I'd love it if this game had local voice comms in normal space, at least as an option. Seems silly to have to text another commander you have interdicted or have been interdicted by.

I thought you can use voice chat with anyone who accepts your voice chat request (and they had not blocked voice comms)? So these requests are only limited to a wing? Are you sure? I don't use it, just curious.

Voice comms does not need to be this confusion.

If you have Elite, you have the capacity for Voice Comms. It's part of the game.

There's no special indicator, as it simply exists.

You can send a Voice Comms request to any commander if you want to communicate with them that way.
They may or may not have a mic. They may or may not have sound turned on - there's no way to know, but they at least have the capability.

You can use a 3rd party voice progam, like TeamSpeak, or Ventrillo, or Discord, or Skype, or whatever it is you like to use, but this has no bearing on Elite.

As you can see from above, Discord is not required. But it is preferred. The sound quality just isn't as good as Discord, and if the came crashes on you for any reason, then if you're using the in-game comms you're mute.

Also, whatever road you want to go down, please use push-to-talk. Nobody wants to hear your singing, or the sort of bodily function noises you make when you are confronted by a Thargoid.

How do u use push to talk?

I'm glad there aren't local voice comms. I don't want to hear chatter from other pilots because in my experience of other games, it's all utterly inane, immersion destroying nonsense.

On the subject of in-game voice comms, I'm able to assign a "push to talk (CQC)" button in the options. Is this actually push to talk for all modes or JUST for CQC? Because I can't find a push-to-talk mapping which is not labelled CQC.

Not that I use voice comms in game for the reason stated above. Just curious.

You have obviously been on missions with Psykokow then....

But yes Discord is the preferred choice.

push to talk is only available on the full version of Discord. The web-based version doesn't have it.

push to talk in the in-game comms is in the options menu CONTROLS/MISCELLANEOUS/MICROPHONE MUTE/PUSH TO TALK

I don't know about teamspeak... I havenae used it for a while

It's the option above. You set "MUTE BUTTON MODE" to push to talk

I do understand your concerns about immersion destroying chatter. I'm not keen on it because I have a terrible voice. But it is really really handy to talk when you're in a wing.

Oh no doubt, but I'm usually 10,000LY from the bubble and there's not many people to talk to ;)
