I just read about this over on the BBC, be intresting to see what they come with, theres a lot of lore with SW so could be anything from way back to what we have now.

Two things.

Firstly, they haven't created anything in Game of Thrones beyond adapting GRRM's work.

Secondly, considering how badly they've trodden over the source material there, I don't know how keen I am of the idea of them messing with another franchise I like.

Oh let me me guess

Six separate ruling factions fight for control of the Galaxy..

I think you just described the new Dune adaptations.

My thoughts exactly

Yes. I agree......

GoT for TV has very little to do with the original books and the further into the TV series the narrative has gone the more the story has diverged from the original.

Seeing the book releases are now lagging behind the narrative in the TV show I think Martin has totally lost control of his own narrative.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I'm so through with Star Wars. I'm even past the point where I like to just go watch them for the spectacle and then never see them again.

The director of The Last Jedi is also slated to be making a new series of SW films. This is getting to be a bit like McDonald's.

Sometimes I think "Star Wars" is just the three original movies with none of the fluff or lore or background or explanations from the other movies or expanded universe or all that.
So much simpler, but less contrived and avoids all the "fan fiction" level attempts to flesh everything out needlessly

True, tbh I read the first GOT books way back when they first came out, but he took so long the next one id forgoten all about it, think it was about half way through the first episode that I knew id read the books.

The thing with SW is that Disney can make it up as they go..

This franchise is being strangled to death. I don’t even care to know what nonesense rubbish they make anymore. The story telling is so very poor. Very very poor.

That's the thing for me, the initial few series of GoT are REALLY good and handle the books well with only a few minor omissions and you can tell Martin's got his hand well and truly involved in them.

Slowly though, you see his withdrawl from the project with the that was their handling of the Dorne plotlines;

Followed shortly by the sudden complete character change of Stannis 'the Mannis' Baratheon:

The final nail in the coffin for me was how much they completely ignored the Greyjoy plot lines. Seriously, how do you make Cthulu worshiping Vikings uninteresting?

They're not great storywriters, which is what they've been signed onto this project for. Benioff, in terms of writing gave us the travesty that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Weiss has written nothing apart from Thrones and one episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia which he co-wrote with Benioff, and was a pretty weak episode. Oh and of course, their upcoming Man in the High Castle clone, Confederate.

I have no idea why the mainstream is getting so hyped about this. I mean, it was bad enough they agreed to let Rian Johnson direct Last Jedi. Seriously, for me, as enjoyable as a standalone film it was for the target market, he came close to killing the franchise due to being allowed to disregard/mess with all the new stuff and mysteries JJ Abrams, for all the issues he brought, was at least trying to seed into the new trilogy. But letting him direct a whole trilogy as well?

If they remake the prequels and make the politics interesting like they did with Rome, before Game of Thrones, then we can talk business. Star Wars is going to get so rinsed it will end up like that Maiden shirt you bought in '89 which you recently found in your mothers cellar.

I actually think the same about Martin:

He wrote a ripping yarn and I have read all the books up until the one he has yet to release that now trails behind the narrative arcs in the TV show. (It's basically the War of the Roses set in a fantasy universe with the odd dragon and bit of occultism).

He is an extremely successful author commercially.

........... but I wouldn't hold Martin up to be a literary giant at all.

A hugely successful commercial author and that's it.

Why hire them now?

All the male characters are already dead and all the females are already Mary Sues.

Current star wars is just a less edgy GoT.

Edit: Don't tell me there is still Poe and Fin. Those characters also died in the last one.

Neither of them was involved in Rome.
