General / Off-Topic Elon Musk 4 President!

We are only a few hours before SpaceX will launch Elon Musk’s red Tesla into an epileptical orbit around the sun! And the autoradio will play David Bowie NON STOP,omg!
Perfect time to ask Fdev if it’s possible to have a red Tesla in my SRV bay :)

Anyway, hope the launch will go without any probs: o7 CMDR Elon!

I watched the launch and cheered, that twin landing of the boosters was right out of my childhood B-movie dreams. Core stage also landed successfully. Mars seems a lot closer now.

Did Elon design/operate/build the space x program ?

Did he bankroll the entire program from his own hard earned gain ?

You people need to stop drinking the social media Kool aid, I’ve just returned from watching it live sat on a boat as close as you can get without paying premium. It is deeply impressive to see history made, but one man alone does not deserve all the praise.

@FrankMurphy: Pretty sure the thread title is tongue in cheek, or at least that's how I took it. It was a team effort and executed brilliantly, all responsible should be proud.

........... Core stage also landed successfully. ..........

Unfortunately it seems to have had a failure during recovery and had a high-speed splashdown. I suppose it was the riskiest recovery and hence attempted at sea. Brilliant overall effort though and everyone associated with it deserves hight praise.

Hmmm, one of the sites I visited right after the launch showed the core at rest on the floating drone platform -- they must have snuck in a pic from an earlier test and failed to i.d. it as such. Well, as they say, "Two outta three ain't bad!"

This from "The Verge" but it is quoting the press conference.

The center core was only able to relight one of the three engines necessary to land, and so it hit the water at 300 miles per hour. Two engines on the drone ship were taken out when it crashed, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in a press call after the rocket launch.

(Their spelling.)

I watched it from a nearby beach .... couldn't believe I was seeing two rockets return successfully ..... docking permission granted !

The sound was fantastic ...... really deep roar from the engines ..... and two double sonic booms as the rockets returned.

I watched a great many of the manned mission launches from the Cocoa Beach area shoreline -- Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. For some reason this launch brought back that excitement more than any other since then.

The launch was very impressive, though I did hanker for the Apollo style launches where you could hear what was going on rather than a lot of whooping.

And David Braben didn't make Elite Dangerous on his own. What's your point? What's mine? Why is it Wednesday, already?

Fixed it for you.

But he did make the original together with DB, he is a programmer and he can design games. EM is not a rocket engineer, and cannot design or make them. Not that I have anything against him, he is a savy and charismatic person that got people hyped for space programs again, which is awesome.

Not even going to comment on the headline, as this is against the forum rules, however it is a good achievement and good for space exploration in general.
