Passenger Question.

Quicky and apologies if this is common knowledge I basically have an ASP with a I think 24 seat economy passenger cabin, I noticed two short range economy missions one with 7 people and one with 5 people to go to a system literally next door so I thought right that's an easy 300k whilst I'm dropping off cargo there anyway. So I accepted the first one no problems had 15ish spaces free but it wouldn't let me accept another economy passenger mission even though I had space and the right requirements......

Is this a kneejerk reaction to the whole Smeaton shinannagans or has it always been like this? First time I've actually ever tried a passenger run?

Some passengers will happily share a cabin, while others won't. You picked up passengers that didn't want to share, hence the whole cabin was occupied. It's always been like this. :)

This is how it has always been - if the icon next to the mission has a crown on it, whatever the cabin you put them in they take the whole cabin. You can only add multiple fares to one cabin if they all just the "non-crown" icon. You get crown style missions for all cabin classes, including economy but I think you generally only get the "sharing" type only for economy.

Edit: Ninja'd. That's odd then if you are sure there was no crown ... Either way, in an Asp if you only have a single economy cabin that would be 16 (class 5) or 32 (class 6) seats - you sure on the numbers there?

How do I tell? I thought that was a crown thing? there wasn;t a crown on on any of them.

I'm not sure if there is an easy way to tell. Certainly refugee or tourist missions don't usually hog the whole cabin. VIP passengers do. If you have more than one economy cabin, it's easy to see if a particular passenger will take a whole cabin, as the select cabin display will then show them all separately (they are combined if the passenger doesn't require a whole one).

I didn't even know about the crown thing. Never seen it on any missions that I've taken! :D You can spot from the actual passenger description if they're going to be happy to share.

Generally if the passanger has a name, ie John Smith, he will take the whole cabin. Those without proper names will usually share.

Transport missions with a named passenger will not share - snobs. Missions that say something like Transport 13 happy drunks to the planet of neon lights and friendly women could give a hoot about sharing.

The passenger missions that want exclusive cabins have a crown over the icon.

If you have a class 6 economy cabin, and a mission for exclusive that is only two people, they will take ALL the seats in that cabin. If you have a Class 4 First-class cabin though, you end up not wasting all those seats...even though they are taking a first-class cabin up. It's a juggling act. This is why larger ships are not necessarily better...because they can just mount larger modules, not necessarily MORE modules. And this is a case where "more" can sometimes be preferable to "better". In smaller ships this is much less of an issue. It's only really noticeable in larger ships.

Missions with exclusive cabins tend to pay more for the same type of mission (not always, but often).
