When do you think we'll see technology gains?

This game is supposed to see a 10 year journey. At some point we need to see some serious gains in technology. We should see faster ships, new forms of hyperspace travel, new communications, new mining techniques, etc.

What do you think?

Well every ship in the game is about to get 145 DD5s. There's something.

Seeing as many of the ship designs are hundreds of years old, I think we'll only see incremental refinements to existing technology.

New mining techniques will be coming in Q4, as will new communication methods with squadrons.

The ships haven’t evolved in over two hundred years, Jameson flew a Cobra MkIII, why would they suddenly jump in 10 years?

After seeing a commander travel millions of LS, a second, in normal space, and seeing the game basically fold in on itself, I am okay with the current pace. I like arriving at a destination without folding inside out. I suspect the game copes better with that, to.

It's on the Priority List (newspeak for Backlog), for 3311

What amazing developments have you seen on Earth in the last 10 years? (Besides the increase in the number of people that believe the Earth is flat?). Still no jetpacks, flying cars, hydrogen cars, heck, we're barely electric now.

As for increases in performance I hear the T7 jumps 60 now. ;)

is it? Can you find any evidence anywhere for this?

"Elite Dangerous has a truly huge scope and Frontier has ambitious development plans. During an interview at Lavecon 2015, David Braben stated to have a clear intention of a 10 year development plan.
This includes smaller free updates, paid major updates and expansions. Frontier uses an iterative approach. This means gradually build upon features to expand and improve it. Here's an overview of planned updates and expansions."

Yes his ship is certainly an older model if you look at it

The FSD is supposedly from the 3290s so we are riding the wave of new technology

GalNet news available anywhere in the Galaxy even could be seen as FTL comms unavailable to the masses in 3300

With ship designs lasting hundreds of years, and those designs still in production and use now, ten years is a drop in the bucket at those time scales. Some incremental change is likely, but we would need something revolutionary to hit, in order to witness a technology shift in a decade of E|D time.

Or, that's how I see it anyway.

I will bet any amount of credits that, by the end of game development, we will see some kind of interaction with aliens (either peaceful or through combat/theft of debris) that will give use spiffy new tech, including new stardrives that jump 600 LY in one hit.

Unless they refuse to trade in alien artifacts and are limited to DD3s ;)
If you count meta-alloys as alien artifacts you're limited to DD2s from Martuuk.

And if you believe the Soontill Relics that are on sale to be genuine alien relics, then you're limited to stock drives.

Let's see:

- FSD ranges roughly doubled since launch through Engineering.
- Jumponium and Neutron boost tech added to extend it further
- Nearly every other piece of equipment has about 50% more effectiveness through Engineering.
- Shield Boosters, HRP, MRPs added to effectively boost hit points by 3 or 4 times.
- Weapons can have special effects.
- Ammunition can be Synthesized in more powerful varieties.
- Anti-corrosive Cargo Holds now exist
- An extensive array of drone tech since launch for Mining, Refuelling, Piracy, Repairs, etc.
- Deployable ground vehicles
- Deployable fighters
- AX weapons for squashing bugs
I'm sure I missed some.

So there's plenty of tech gain already.
With more power creep coming in Beyond..

The fan made unofficial wiki that's as reliable as the OP?

Now find an official source not one just full of fan guesswork. DB said they had plans to develop it for at least 10 years - that's all that's ever been said.
