General / Off-Topic Altered Carbon

I have only seen fragments, but I am very interested in Roman history.
I was considering buying the series.

By all means buy it. It's the most Game of Thronesy show ever done before game of thrones (it's also from HBO). Great cast.

It's set in the period Julius Caesar returns from Gaul and takes over the Roman Republic. Although main story itself is fictional, the historic events around it are real. And it's actually funny to see how the 2 protagonists (both excellent) completely inadvertedly end up influencing how major historic events turn out.

I just watched episode #2 last night. Not impressed at all. The director and producer figured that if they threw in as much sleazy t&a, special effects and ultraviolence as possible, they could skip on providing even halfway decent acting. That and some of the most boring, cliched writing I've ever seen.

This show is terrible, and is the opposite of art. And I say that as someone who has no problem with t&a, special effects or ultraviolence.

"I wish I had a backup stack to before I watched Altered Carbon so I could enjoy watching it for the first time again"

not a bad show.
The mild "blade runner" influences initially turned me off, but the story is actually pretty compelling.
I decided to give it a chance last weekend, and I'm already up to episode 7.

And the only thing blade-runner about it is the backdrop and the scenery and the flying cars, which is good... trying to turn blade runner into a series would be a mistake.
