Sell me a "big three" ship

Conda can do everything you've mentioned with the same loadout :)

It is totally unbalanced.

Cutter is also awesome fun with the SLF because it is pretty much invincible in PVE.

You can just park it in the middle of a CZ, let the NPC fly it, and you zip around in the Fighter. Good for role playing a "big ship" kind of thing.

I hate you, I so with I had chrome on my Cutter :(

The chromed cutter can get worn and lose its lustre' .. , but so much enjoyment.

So up to now I've not bothered getting one of the big three / four ships as I can't really think of anything to do with it. Credits aren't the issue, I have easily enough cash to buy & outfit one in any config and still enough for many rebuys.

...snip

If that is really the case, that you "easily enough cash to buy & outfit one in any config and still enough for many rebuys", then how about you buy one, outfit it, and let us know your thoughts?

Power management is pants, btw. You can fit lots of guns, or a decent shield- not both. But pew pew isn't really my thing; your mileage may vary... ;)

Charge enhanced distributor and/or fit kinetic/explosive, was popping small and large npc's for hours the other day.

Prefer to fly shieldless though, engineerd military hull 4 reverb torp launchers, the rest overcharged multi cannons. Pretty much overkill for NPC combat. All reverb/deepcut loadout for defence in open.

So I thought I'd update this...

I'm now the proud owner of a shiny new Anaconda.

Lots of reasons for choosing the conda, mainly rank (i.e. didn't have enough of either fed or emp) but also, jump range, speed and general all round usefulness. It really was a close call between the conda and the vette, in the end I went for the one that I think will be the most useful in the role I want it to perform, CG runner and armed trader, the jump range sealed it.

Apart from outfitting her and taking her to see the farseer I've not really flown her much but OMG she has a big butt. I'm going to have to get used to the speed of turn, yaw and roll which compared to the ships I normally fly feels soooo slooowww.

It's a learning curve but I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do.....thanks for all your input.

If I get a taste for big ships I think the vette might be next on my list....possibly after the chieftan.

I know most people don't like it.. but the Type 10 or Annie are pretty awesome for MINING. I know right, who even does that? :p You can fit multiple mining lasers, prospector limpets, MULTIPLE collector limpets, refinery , and still enough storage for about 400 tons of those sweet sweet precious metals! Not to mention, you can still use the bigger weapon slots and one internal for a SLF to fight off the pirates who show up trying to steal your haul. Definitely an experience you can't quite get without having one of the big 3 to feel like that giant space mining barge

Sorry to necro this.

I'm enjoying the conda and flying a big ship, didn't think I would but there you go. It's already paid for itself and then some in haulage missions and overall i'm quite impressed. I'm still using my other ships but the conda fills a nice niche in my little flotilla.

I do have one small issue...well two actually.

What are people using in the two small hard point slots. I had a pair of gimballed MCs but they just weren't firing when everything else was. I've now fitted a pair of rail guns there really because I couldn't think of anything else to do with them.

I know someone will say turrets, but I've not used turrets, I'm not keen on the thought of something else firing on my behalf.

So any ideas? Missiles?

I have a pair of Seeker Launchers in the small slots, as well as two of the large.

As a missile boat, the Anaconda is somewhat Ra.

I stuck a pair of turreted MCs on there, with long-range mods and corrosive/thermal effects.

Not sure how much they do but they sound good and they seem to deter ships from attacking my belly.

I get my chrome cutter out when there is a Beta ......

for the basking

Alas, I never bought the chrome paint for the Corvette

I used to have two dumbfire missile launchers in the class 1 slots exclusively for planetary mission running. Allows you to just sit above a planetary installation and knock out the defense placements before deploying an SRV, or for destroying skimmers from safety.

you want to be interdicted by elite anacondas?
you want to face federal corvettes as assassination targets, and maybe headhunted by his anaconda flying npc friends?

AFAIK you need to fly one of the big3 yourself to see that.

My cutter doesn't have small hardpoints, and I sold my conda quick, but I armed the two small hardponts on my FGS with pulse or burst turrets with one of them with the scramble effect and the other with emissions tracking. Maybe will all change when beta ch.1 drops.

*crazy music plays*

Come on down to honest Gans big 3 battlewagon bonanza, where we have only the finest large ships for the commander who wants it large!

Tired of having to choose between power and space? Why choose when you can have it all?

Want shields that make people cry? No problem!

Want huge weapons! Come to daddy!

Simply want to cram in as many people as possible? Yes sir!

Yes! Come on down, and bag yourself a bargain today!

Warning: large ships combat performance may vary | Rank lock can cause hair loss and low appetite | Performance against medium combat ships not guaranteed | price of A grade internals may induce vomiting

I read that in the voice of Ants In My Eyes Johnson. “I can’t see a thing.”

In my opinion, there's really no need, unless you feel you simply must have one of the Big 3 ships.

The Anaconda does many things very well, but I hate the pitiful view from the cockpit, so I don't fly one. I've never bothered to earn the rank for the other 2 big ships, but I've flown most of the various ships in beta or on the "live" servers. Honestly, the large ships aren't as enjoyable to fly as the small and medium ships, imo, and those big ships are a lot more expensive to maintain. I have more than enough credits to buy all of the large ships, but I just don't feel the need to do so.

I own quite a few ships, but generally, I only use 2: My AspX, which I use for most everything, and my Type-9, which I use for trade CGs; both are heavily engineered. I mostly explore and trade; I rarely do combat, but I've particularly enjoyed using the Vulture in the past.

Type 10 has the best cockpit and the best DPS vs small ships. It also has the best heavy combat fitted jump range, and the worst overall hardpoint convergence.

The Anaconda has the 2nd best raw DPS, the best DPS vs large ships, the best light combat build jump range, and the tightest overall hardpoint convergence.

The Corvette has the 2nd best shields, and sightly less drift than the Conda, and the lowest total DPS of the three, but looks really cool with the two C4s up top. It also has the best pitch rate (slightly better than than the Conda) which is useful for turning to face small ships (iff you suck at FA Off).

The Cutter has the biggest shields, the fastest boost speed by far, the highest Mass Lock Factor, decent jump range, the most cargo capacity, and the best zero pip heavy build pitch rate of the big four. However it does have the same C7 power distributor as the T10 which is a minor handicap until it's engineered, even so it has the best survivability stats vs other alpha ships in the game.

Wow, that probably the best and most detailed analysis I ever saw, rep ! And the Vette's firepower is even worse than I thought, all things considered. It should be the most powerful warship, it definitely needs it's small and medium hardpoints increased in size by one, as it should have been from the beginning.

Nice one Ziljan, bookmarked. Would be interested to know how the heat efficiency compares across all 4 ships, the T-10 seems to run on liquid nitrogen, also has the lightest sensors, meaning you can G5 long range with hardly any mass penalty.
