With the Type 10 unleashed (and upgraded in 3.0), is The Big 3 now The Big 4?

PvP is not the primary criteria by which the Big 4 are judged.

For me it is. If it's not competitive in PvP it's not a big 4. Don't get me wrong... I love the T-10 more than the big three and would really like to make it my main ship, but due to its flaws, I just can't.

Lol, who actually cares about an imaginary club made up by a few forum members? The fact that a 400 tonne ship is part of that club makes it even more silly.

Last I checked there was a whole bunch of big large pad ships, and I've been PvP & PvEing successfully in all of them..

In a thread which is entirely about opinions, why state the obvious?
Because it’s internet etiquette. That’s just the age we live in.

You PvP’d in a Type-7?

I immediately buildt a Type-10 gunship for PvE and love it. In many cases, it chews through Elite NPC Anacondas faster than my Anaconda, Corvette or Cutter battle wagons. It also makes a pretty good multi-role ship.

For my alt account and console accounts the big four is now the big two instead of just the Anaconda since none of those accounts currently have rank for any of the rank locked ships.

I'm a big Type-10 fan even though I have to fly it from behind a workbench.

I’ve been wanting to try it out in a RES for a while now. I only use mine in AX spec right now (got my first solo Cyclops kill in my T-10 in her first combat outing).

What do you use the c1 hardpoints for? I usually leave them empty, but decided to put gimbaled LR beams in them for the forthcoming Thargoid Scouts.

Strictly speaking being interdicted/attacked by someone and high-waking out qualifies as PvP... Looked at that way every ship can be "successfully" used for PvP of course, even the T-9 and T-7 ;)
Good point. That said, I’d still love to see a T-7 fight in a PvP battle. I mean, if Sideys can manage it, why not the Flying Coffin?

Was in a T7 by gamma release, spent 6 months in that ship before moving to a clipper, this was before you could go sidy to Anaconda in a few days and back when people would dogfight in Vipers using skill.

Edit (checking my old posts, was in the Asp on gamma, moved to a T7 shortly after)

Type-9, is the same ship it was in 2.x; just with more capacity. It was never designed to be the be-all end-all trader. Those just haven't been added yet (Panther Clipper, Boa). And the endless people harping on about it's (type-9) cargo potential, will continue to not use it in 3.0.

I will be, though. Type-9 can easily now hold 512 tons for mining, with a crapload of limpets, better shield resistances and room for some HRM to improve the hull.

It's basically a cutter that lost the ability to defend itself in exchange for a MAJOR price cut and no rank lost now. It's a budget cutter and honestly I might consider buying one for hauling and BGS and devote my current cutter more towards combat and res mining now. Anyone who owns a trading cutter and does a lot of trading isn't going to get a t9, but anyone who just wants to trade and can't afford a cutter now has more of a reason to use the t9 over another ship that isn't trading specialized.

The heavy industrial look&feel of the T-9 is unbeatable. Always wanted to use it, but just couldn't give up 1/3 of my cargo capacity just for look&feel. Probably going to ditch my Trutter in favor of the buffed T-9, once it's released.

If one is only ever in Solo, then Type-9 is a bargain with a prodigious profit potential. AI are a nuisance at worst and have no ability to prosecute an attack on an even remotely competent pilot. In Open? Type-9 is still just fine, but some capacity should be sacrificed for better survival prospects (what use are credits, or profit, if you are dead?).

A few will leap to the potential it now offers. Most will continue to use cutter or anaconda anyway, because let's be honest; the vast majority complaining that Cutter could carry more, are purely arguing a point, not an actuality of concern.

I can understand why some players would judge Big 4 entry by PVP standards, but for me (mainly playing PVE) that's not the main criteria, for me it comes down to:

It is big?
Is is desirable? Do I want it?
Can I survive the majority of PVE threats in it?

Everyone will have their own ideas of what defines a Big 3 (or 4 or 5 or 6 etc). For me the T10 can and has joined the club, I'm sure others will disagree and that's fine. :)

The buffed T9 misses out IMO, an extra 256 tons of cargo is nice, but won't be much good vs 2 angry FASs. If anything those extra tons will slow you down, potentially making your escape harder - more so if mass locked (which can be the case vs FAS, bizarrely).

My PvE combat type-10 has two c1 and one c2 grade 5 efficient phasing burst lasers turrets. The rest of her hard points are filled with six high capacity pack hound launchers.

And, even taking into account the limits of the class 6 PD, with grade 5 charge enhanced I only need 1 pip in WEP.

Nice. Never tried packhounds before, but I’ve seen videos. One of these days I’ll get around to hunting down PP gear.

I am in the process of doing the same thing! I have already purchased a new Type-9 and have it pre-engineered for the upcoming 3.0 release. It is a much nicer looking/feeling trading ship than the Cutter and now that it can carry the same amount of cargo I really want to use it more.
