What games would you like ED to shamelessly steal from?

I was reading Rock,Paper,Shotgun last night and spotted two games in their Unknown Pleasures article that immediately made me wish FDev would see them and go, "Cor, we're having a bit of that in Elite."

To me they look a bit like evolutions of existing mechanics in the game, so not out of the realms of possibility for ED.

Scavenger SV 4:

Remotely operated drones for the surface of Hellworlds, pretty much modified SRV gameplay with a graphics filter. I can imagine scanning a planet from orbit, then sending Johnny 5 down to have a mooch around the interesting bits.

Frontier Pilot Simulator (around the 34sec mark):

Looks like a graphical representation of wind strength and the ship fighting against it - could be used in ED for fuel scooping gas giants or, in a modified form, stars. Stay in the Green streams for slow and relatively safe scooping, or dive for the red zones for faster scooping but at increased risk (a bit like scooping Neutron Stars).

Are there any games you've seen that you'd thought ED should steal from? Shamelessly and blatantly, but for the betterment of the game (especially with Mining and Exploration updates later this year)? :D

Battlezone for hover tanks and mobile bases, and a bit of FPS-RTS funzies.
No idea what we'd do with these bases, but we'll figure something out. Lol

And I-War. Because I love I-War.
I want the dreadnought. I actually prefer the travel system in I-War than ED.
The I-War universe would actually be better for Multiplayer than ED, due to the choke points at Lagrange Points to jump to another system. :)
And LDS was fun, and felt insanely fast.

Eve...love it or hate it, they been around a long time and there are a great many mechanics which could be incorporated into elite like the player owned structure systems. Not everyones cuppa tea, there have been megathreads opposed to any player owned structures here...and many who do support the notion on those threads too. Its not something that can be argued away nice and conveniently...it keeps coming back every now and then and I fer one would support the idea.

And then theres scanning fer wormholes...quite an involving mechanic that takes time and takes some practice to get right, but opens up a wealth of extra content fer those who like to explore. If we had that mechanic in elites stellar forge? Ok so compare that to exploration here...jump, honk, travel, point and scan when in range. Much as I love exploration, its bare bones and when a game like eve has far more engaging mechanics, ye know theres a problem considering eve is not a pve game.

yes X-series economy, and of course their enironment. I love how there are so many tiny ships flying around doing "daily" stuff. it feels way more believabel and alive than ED. Also, stations in X rebirth look great, those agrarcultural ones, very nice, and active.

Evochrons jump mechanic, basically enabling you to jump anywhere and not this rubbish, right into the sun, version of ED.

Arena from WoW (CQC)
Profession synergies (from wow), i.e. you grind a lot to become great at a profession, you can only have three, and other players need you and you need them to perform their profession for you (such as jewelcrafting in wow, for example)
World bosses, scripted multiple contact encounters, from wow.
Guilds...you guessed it, from wow.

They could take some hints from Starflight in regards on how to handle unknown life forms (scan 'em, stun 'em, pack 'em).

Also system scanning from EVE Online could be cannibalized to make USS discovery more deterministic, maybe adapt some of the triangulation methods to planetary scanning to find POIs.

More "stuff" around stations would look great. I was playing Frontier Elite 2 at the weekend and there was a station with 5 Lynx Bulk Carriers and a megaship in the vicinity (in a later visit, some of them had jumped away) - I imagined how this might look in ED with ships shuttling between them and... yeah, it'd be great.

I'd actually like to see a different developer come along and create a new game that shamelessly steals from ED. I feel like this is the only way we'll get the "Elite Dangerous" promised in the Frontier's Dev Diaries. Being a Playstation gamer, I'd love to see what Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, or Santa Monica Studio could create for my platform in this genre.

Subnautica - hands down. The crafting and base-building system in that game is superb...

I would love this. I know David said a long time ago hunting on planets is a long-term goal. I'd imagine water worlds with life would be an awesome opportunity to deploy some underwater shuttles and search for some rare and dangerous life.

FDev has already stolen from Egosoft's X-Series.
