PUBG

Just seeking to clarify whether your opinion of the game is worth listening to, i.e. derived from first-hand experience.

The fact that you consider MGS an action FPS speaks volumes - it's actually a TPP stealth shooter (as is the primary game-mode I play in PUBG, although first person view is available for those who wish to play that way, although the modes are separated. You can FPP on some TPP servers at least, but you're at a disadvantage.)

So yeah, if you haven't actually played it, your confidence in the nature of the game is questionable, as, therefore, is the validity of your conclusions.

The two of my kids I was playing with today put me to shame. I found an ACOG 4x scope and thought I'd put it on my designated marksman rifle (an SKS). Then I thought about it and gave the whole shebang to one of them, who proceeded to wipe out two squads with it.

The decisions you make in the game are really important--just as important as skill--right from where you head for when you jump out the plane. Part of the reason it's so popular, IMO, is that there's lots of room for a variety of playstyles, and the tension ramps up towards the end. There are also a lot of randomly brilliant moments, such as earlier today when we landed at a warehouse complex with two other squads. My two boys went over for a fistfight while I grabbed a shotgun. One of the other guys got an M16A4 and killed me with it, while another dude found a dune buggy and tried to run people over with it, killing one. The M16A4 guy used the last of his bullets killing the driver, so my eldest grabbed the dune buggy and spent the next few minutes chasing them around in circles, Benny Hill style. In the end, I died, and he ran three people over. I haven't laughed as much playing a game since the first time I played Gang Beasts.

There's me with my expensive mechanical gameboard and laser mouse, getting my behind handed to me, and there's them with cheapo membrane keyboards and crap Elecom mice, carrying me. It's rather illuminating.

Buy it. It's fun!

I might try it whenever it goes on sale!
From the looks of it appears to be at a similar hilarious absurdity level as GTAIV (online GTA race) used to be. My playstyle would be to look for a car immediately. :)

"if you haven't actually played it, your confidence in the nature of the game is questionable" is a fair comment. "as, therefore, is the validity of your conclusions" is not really fair considering this was my conclusion ...

Anywho ... I'm not into it, but I hope you all enjoy your mindless "kill everything that moves" battle royale game. :)
Let's break down my conclusion ...
"I'm not into it" ... because it's not a game I am attracted to playing.
"but I hope you all enjoy" ... is a positive well-wishing statement
"your mindless" ... opinion
"kill everything that moves" ... do you not literally kill everything that moves, given that the only things that move in PUBG are other players you are trying to kill?
"battle royale game" ... it is a battle royale game, and was actually inspired by the film Battle Royale (I have seen that film and rate it very highly).

My responses were rather more motivated by your supercilious first post and demonstrating that you actually don'r have a clue about the games you seem so intent on dismissing in as condescending a manner as possible.

I achieved my goal.

You actually needed to demonstrate that I "didn't have a clue about games I don't actually play"? Really? I could have saved you the trouble by freely admitting I know nothing about them.

GG. I hope you feel special.

I do hope that I can eventually reach super Saiyan level 3 where I feel able to be a condescending anus without even realising I'm doing it... but yeah, be civil, have fun, and have an inkling of self-awareness while playing your games for people with brain cells, I guess.

Drop the handbags folks.
C'mon man.

I have not been bitten by the PUBG bug because I simply am not into first person shooter games, and yes I do see the contradiction in that statement when you point out to me that Elite Dangerous is also a first person shooter game.

I've seen the rise of games like Doom, Metal Gear Solid, Call Of Duty and I've always considered them to be games that people who don't want to exercise the ol' grey matter play. To me they are mindless run-around-and-shoot-everything games. I've heard people talk about tactics and strategy and puzzle solving, but I don't see any of that in these games, they are simply "kill everything that moves" games.

Something that made me laugh was recently, our own Hugh Mann aka "The Commander" on Twitch stated he wasn't going to play a "bandwagon" game, referring to They Are Billions, and decided to play PUBG instead, the king of Bandwagon games of 2017.

Anywho ... I'm not into it, but I hope you all enjoy your mindless "kill everything that moves" battle royale game. :)

You're very wrong on this matter.

I have to engage my brain when I play ArmA and the like, whereas with ED, Im unchallenged with half my attention on something else.

With only 2.8 million online concurrently - do you reckon I could get a game? :)

Ironically I have pinpointed the game years ago when its "supposed" gameplay was sounding really interesting. I thought it would be a great game to play with the missus. I was expecting a PvP mode but as its right now Battle Royale seems to be THE main attraction while the PvE mode gets next to no coverage nor interest. And who could blame the devs for their switched focus? If millions of players would use the servers and flood the ingame store with purchases they have no incentive whatsoever to ever deliver the PvE content which is way harder to create.

As it stands at the moment PUBG has "died" for me as I have zero interest to play competitive PvP. Glad I never got into early access for it.

I got a 4th place finish yesterday, was a tense affair, the finishing circle ended on a farmers field.

Some dude with a Kar98 shot me when I popped out from behind a haystack.

I have found a new favourite gun though, the Winchester, that thing has good range and packs a punch.

It's actually quite easy to get into the final 20 or even 10. More often that not for me anyway. I've never won though. I just hide and stay out of trouble as much as possible and loot what i can rather than go actively looking for loot. I'd say at least half the games I've played I've gotten into the final 20 with about half again into the final 10.

there's a PVE mode??

Tells a lot about the mechanics when luck and patience can get you in the top ten without firing a shot. PUBG's popularity is not rocket science. It makes the average gamer feel like they have achieved something just by camping ledges and window sills.

Oh and console parity. Angels Fall First one of the best sci fi shooters is basically being ignored despite being deep and fleshed out. It takes too much thought for the average player to contend with. You cannot just jump in and dominate, it doesn't work like that. Shame.

PUBG is surprisingly good fun.

I like how important sound is (but they really should put in 7.1 support), and the fact that things like suppressive fire work as ot should.

Flaws include unrealistic FPS movement and the fact that any walls completely stop bullets regardless of range and penetration. Even so, it's intense and fun, especially when playing with three friends.

3rd person mode... Why does it even exist in a game like this? Then again, I play in 1st person so the perversions of others do not bother me.
