PvP Why PvP is not popular in Elite Dangerous?

Would it surprise you I have often advertised Rinzler's guide as well? Because it is excellent. I have always had the opinion that to get more people interested in PvP or Open, you need guides like that an promotion, which would work better than force.

Open is the place to play. Keeps you on your toes, and bring life to the galaxy in general.

:D S

Oh I know how the BGS works. Ask mobius what happened to Alberta in colonia.

Heres a video ENJOY IT.

TELL ME AGAIN TO LEARN. I took on the great 80,000 STRONG.

And here is what they said about it, https://imgur.com/V9ZiXXY

EVEN MOBIUS ADMITS THE BGS being effected in solo and private is dumb. I WON THAT BATTLE TOO.

IVE DONE IT ALL. What have you done?
I believe someone several pages back stated that part of the reason why people don’t like PvP is the attitude of PvPers themselves. This post pretty much sums up said attitude.

it might be notable that the new C&P has a fun little feature. its the cost of your rebuy going onto the bounty and not the fee for ganking that stings.
you might want to consider the fact that a viper or cobra with torps, frags or other high damage weapons can shred almost any trading ship when well engineered.
most CG gankers killed squishy targets while they waited for a good fight in SC, but its fair to assume that ships built purely for a easy gank at a low price are going to become more prevalent, and that's likely going to result in even more carebear tears in open.

Crikey Ziggy, nail on head.

- Full of smoke - check
- Lots of ignorant people - check
- Increased risk of mugging - check
- Takes ages to get to your destination - check

:O
Well, as a tourist I like London.

- I like to smoke
- I'm among peers
- Look like a pauper
- And I'm never in a hurry

There have been more than one that brought that issue up.

I'd reiterate that. PvP isn't popular in ED, because ED isn't a PvP game. It's a game where PvP is possible, yes, but not encouraged. By design.
And the sole fact that a death costs you money, which represents the only semblance of progression through the game is the proof.

PvP, if anything, is kind of a end-game hobby. :)

And herein lies the enigma that frontier need to fix...how to make pvp more attractive in their universe.

So ok...I love pvp in general...Ive spent decades indulging that passion...but its not working fer me here. Reasons already given but the point being that not all of us hate pvp or have some sorta agenda against it...some might but lets not dwell on that and just move on shall we? Bad examples on both sides of the fence after all make the argument a bit moot.

Thread is sinking into hotel territory again...Im off to do another 20 or so data runs tonight...81% Baron so sad the grind is real...in open too ^

Hey, most cities seem nice if you are there as a tourist, having worked there for two years and having to commute in via train/tube you get a different vibe!

I do object to that on behalf of many PvPers on my friend's list :)

With regard to the example, there's one born every minute and they distribute themselves all over the place. But you're right about the attitude.

You're right. The PVPers are frustrated because people take advantage of solo and private to effect others while Fdev continues to balance this game around PVP.

But nevermind the links and proof I gave you there to show the imbalances. Thats not toxic,

Whats toxic is the people refusing to admit there need to be change in the game for things to work correctly.

Im doing it, Im showing and proving it.

And I am mad because the people fighting against, havnt done SQUAT, and Fdev listens to them for Feedback and thats why were in the mess we are in right now with this game.

And what Fdev need to worry about. Is people like me that have already left and said screw it. Which means no more paint packs. And you'll continue to see new people come and older people get frustrated and leave.

When I bought this game, It was because of advertisements about PVP. Powerplay was released and the term "OR HUNT OTHER COMMANDERS" was introduced.

Come to find out. Everyone gets to take objectives in private and solo. And if you kill someone in the game, you labelled a psychopath among many other names from the people in this game that doesnt understand what they built for us that was supposed to be made for PVP.

So instead, You have 5 years of hotel california, toxicity from PVEers to being with. And PVPERs standing up for themselves against this nonsense.

I enjoyed London as well. As a tourist. Wouldn't want to live there.

- I smoke cigars
- I have peered into things I probably shouldn't have
- I look like I might be the one mugging you, so no fears there.
- I like to lollygag and hide in the shadows

Thoughts?

Elite: Dangerous is not a PvP game, the game itself has no mechanics that support PvP, the game does not care if you are killing npc's or players....So yeah those that do PvP, while it is a 'part' of the game, it is a part people can do by choice, there is no real reward for it, in fact doing PvP to affect BGS and such is in general an act of futility.

Now yes, BGS factions can 'fight' eachother and such, but that's really more of a competition, kinda like say, civilization games. Sure you can play against other players and it might be more exciting for some, but the game itself doesn't really care either or.
So yeah PvP is a tiny part of Elite at best, and some times the negative aspects of it can affect a large amount of players, and the debate if or if not they should be allowed to do that, is.......ongoing? maybe the best word to use.

I’ve been trying to understand why the vast majority of people are not interested in PvP in Elite Dangerous.
I’d like your thoughts on it, here are my thoughts.
...
TLDR?
Summary – Most players purchased ED to wonder at our galaxy in their own time in their own way. For them PvP is just a waste of time and effort.

Still interested?
For me it is just too difficult to succeed. Success means for me to be good enough for some wins. I am not, I tried and found out, this is to high for me.

Would be fair to say that there are some areas of Belfast where tourists are rarely seen and fer good reason...to some, tourists are a walking cash n carry, iPhones, cameras, tablets, wallets, hire car keys, teeth if they fight back or say no.

Although to be fair, its way better now than it used to be...I remember a time when tourists didnt come here at all ^

So, why don't people like PvP then?

In that exact same sales pitch it also says, "Play alone, or with friends". You fail to take that into account. You can hunt other Commanders. Just not all of them. You can only hunt, those willing to be hunted. The materials that told you about PvP should also have told you about the Modes and that people get to make their own choices. When I found out about E|D I looked it up. I found out the details of the game, and the Modes sold me. You bought it for another reason, that doesn't mean you get to decide how I play. You should have known what you were buying.
