Frontier, can we please get some actual documentation?

With 3.0 launching given the focus is suppose to be on the core game could we get some actual documentation? You know things like the engineering blueprint details, material requirements, material trader conversion tables, drop rates for materials in various locations, etc? It's always baffled me how little Frontier publishes about the game they are creating and selling. Why is the community forced to create work out and debate all these details, can't we just get it from the creator's mouth?

It's not right that a company rely on it's community to make the game playable. Elite isn't in early access, it isn't 10 guys in a tiny office. It's a long term product from a $450,000,000 business making money. The fact is it is absolutely impossible to play Elite without access to the forums, Reddit, Google and many third part sites with Frontier providing very little detail in the forums they host for the community. I understand that we will always have 3rd party tools that the community enjoys either building or pioneering but it's time that Frontier provided us these resources. Love or hate the new engineering system the hardest and grindiest (is that a word?) part is the gathering of materials. Please help us with that by telling us, you know, where to actually find things. Why must we grind before we grind?

Am I expecting too much? I'm also not suggesting that all this be available in the game interface, although something like Galnet for training work. Just something that makes it available, a companion site or application even. Something. Anything that would have information directly from Frontier would stop all this conjecture, unnecessary debate and work. You have the information, it's in your code. Please share it with us. Please.

EDMC coupled to inara should be standard for any regular player, for non VR users a browser or direct access could be added to the center panel, or accessible through starport services.

All the hard work has been done by inara, it tracks and assists with everthing, I can even keep track of every mission I've done for every faction, it is genius running that site through oculus dash. Single monitor users just need access without alt tabbing.

EDMC & INRA are game changers. New players that find this have a massive advantage. Makes tracking Engineering and blueprints so much better. No more one pinned blueprint and checking to see what you have/don't have in the right panel, just see it all in page :D

Also great for away from game bragging with your mates LOL

In game, when you highlight a material, it tells you where it can be collected from.

That manual is 2 years out of date and has no information on anything in 2.1 or later. I think they need to make an update for 2.4 or 3.0 Q1 and then another version when the Beyond series finishes at the end of this year.

On the bright side, and least they don't publish a lot of technical data that is WRONG like Microsoft does (and never corrects it). I love using Windows 10, but by God, I hate having to manage deployments. Argh! [mad]

There used to be a time when people sat down with paper, pen, and calculator, and figured that stuff out. There days they cry big shiny tears when it's not automatically exported to some tool. Everything you mentioned as examples can be experimentally determined, and except for the drop rates which may require some actual data collection effort, that experimentation boils down to just reading numbers off the UI.

There are very badly hidden links to tutorial videos and a comprehensive manual (that has already been mentioned above) right in the launcher, and still people don't even bother looking at those, why should Frontier invest resources into maintaining readable copies of such easily visible minutiae that can also change quite rapidly as a matter of balancing?

Clearly you didn't actually read my post so I'll try to explain to you again - I'm not talking about how to play I'm talking about specific technical details. What materials are needed fo what blueprints. What are the details of each blueprint. What are the secondaries. What are the trading matrices? Yes, much of this data exists, as created and curated by the community. Why is it the community's job? I have over 2500 hours in game and 22 fully G5 ships - I know where to find anything and everything The point is the community shouldn't have to do this - they are a $450 million dollar company selling a product to millions of customers. This isn't a community project why should the community need to do all their support? Seems like a rather simple request but I suppose that's just too much to ask of such a huge company with so many employees. They do give us tons of new features and gameplay constantly at least, right?
 
Official Wikipedia can be exactly what OP is asking for ... huge amount of work, but imo absolutely a must have for get more new cmdrs stay in game long enough to get addicted ;)

Maybe when we get to Chapter 3 or 4 and we have the in-game Codex we will finally have a way to find stuff currently is simple not documented by Frontier.
Frontier's approach has always been 'let the player find out for themselves' - so the players do, they go to google and end up at inera or edsm or coriolis and find out all the information that Frontier decided to bury in a game with 400 billion systems and 1000s of starports and outposts etc.
The new players can just be VERY grateful they are not playing this game 2-3 years ago, before those 3rd party sites managed to get all the useful data!

Just one more reason why I'd never bother with a Games Console - my fav game requires a web browser open most of the time!

There are a vast number of sites that will tell you pretty much every and anything you might want to know. Inara.cz is a good one. EDDB.io is a good one. But a lot of that information can be found in game as well, if you look for it.

Not sure where you found a particular material? Look at its description. It does say where it can be found.

And, of course, we do have the up-and-coming Codex.. what goes in there is anyone's guess at this point, but it may help span the gap.

Because Frontier wants people to explore and figure it out for themselves.
You'll notice that despite the trade tools rework coming in Beyond, Frontier didn't try to reproduce the functionality offered by EDDB and the like which allow you to find a trade route in two clicks. Because that's not the spirit of the game.

Because, and I can't believe someone has to have that explained, discovering that stuff is part of the game! I'd so love to see you play a Dark Souls or Paradox game blind.
