I mean, there was that one time I wrote down all the 30 local systems in the Crab Nebula to check them off after I explored them – detail surface scanned everything in them. Getting there and out again was the first and last time I've used jumponium in the game so far, using my multi-role combat/exploration Vulture to get there during the Crab Nebula Expedition of 3302 (I was a fleet escort as well), so naturally I wanted to make the most of it. Getting there was a hoot, and one of the more compelling things I've done in the game.
Not sure if that counts or not, but I think it's within the same spirit as what the OP is talking about. I mean, I didn't use a spreadsheet. But that's OK, right?
Now, if I could copy and paste text directly from the game to my PC (log files not withstanding), it might be a different story.
