What ships do you have and why?

Greetings Cmdrs o7,

my ships are:

Sidewinder / only to have one, a duplicate of my first ship
Ealge MK / bought in at the CG in the California nebula, with fixed beam lasers
Cobra MKIII / I'm using her for transport/smuggling - fast and stealthy
Viper MKIV / not engineered, I've used it for bounty hunting in the past
Vulture / my main combat ship, equipped with two C3 puls lasers
ASPX / Exploring, stripped down she makes 50 lys, still engineering
DBX / ~47 ly, I'm using it for travelling in the bubble
Fer-de-lance / bounty-hunting and combat
Dolphin / transport and passengers, I've used it to evacuate refugees from the first attacked stations
T-9 / transport

I'm planning to buy an anaconda in the near future to use it on my new exploring trip, as soon as 3.0 drops.
Maybe I'll try the chieftain, too. Never tasted the beta :D

Primary ships:

1) Asp Explorer "Dusk Silhouette":
- Comfortable medium-long range explorer (52LY unladen jump range). The "Comfort" part comes from being well shielded and armoured for a dedicated explorer (369MJ / 952 integrity), with an assortment of energy weapons (2 x pulse lasers, 2 x rails and 2 x plasma). Unfortunately after 3.0 drops, I'm unsure exactly which role it will fufill after I remodel the DBX.

2) Python "Agathon":
- General bubble all rounder (passenger/cargo mission runner) and miner when the itch calls. Engineered for long range (41LY unladen jump range), but reasonably well shielded and armoured for a lightweight build (752MJ / 1074 integrity). Also armed with several lightweight weapons (3 x 3C multi-cannon, 2 x 2B rail guns). Can boost up to 419m/s with it's lightweight 5D thrusters.

3) Diamondback Explorer "Dudley Bose" ("Bose's Deceit" once I finish the 3.0 engineering):
- Deep space ship, aimed at pure exploration (58.8LY jump range, no fancy comforts like the other 2 primary ships). Has taken me past Beagle point and back again as well as reach some pretty impressive heights above, and depths below the galactic plane. Despite the mileage, I still prefer the AspX as my primary explorer, however after 3.0 drops this ship will get some fairly nice upgrades that may take it to the No.1 spot currently occupied by my AspX.

And possibly a new 4th all-combat entry:

4) Fer-de-Lance "White Noise":
- First built this up in the Beta 3.0 to try it out, otherwise I have never flown a pure combat ship before. Was so impressed by it's handling after engineering it in the beta that I bought it in 2.4 and have now spent a good amount of time engineering it. My eyes do bleed at the jump range on it, so for engineering it's modules I tend to switch to much more jump capable ships.

Experimental / unsure of role:
1) Dolphin "Mariana":
- Luxury passenger ship/explorer. Unfortunately I haven't found a role for it that my Python can do just as well (except luxury class passengers). Still has a very small footprint, and has one of the nicer looking cockpits out of all my ships.

2) Anaconda (unamed):
- No idea what to do with this just yet, perhaps a long term garage project
Effectively retired:
Type-6 (unnamed):
- Bought it after I had purchased my AspX to try out. Wish that I had made the jump from the Cobra Mk III -> Type-6 instead of the DBX (pre-6 slot/range buff), so never truly got a chance to make use of it.

Imperial Courier (unnamed):
- Looked like it would be a fun fast explorer on the surface, but it's small 3A FSD drive is affected by even small changes in mass. Also had trouble with heat management (although not as much as the Imperial Eagle...).

Asp Scout (unamed):
- Bought it just in case FD did actually buff it. Actually a decent exploration ship, but expensive and so the Dolphin/Type-6 is a much better fit as a cheap exploration ship. Not fond of the looks on this ship.

I'm curious as to what ships other people keep and whether they use them, and if so for what purpose.

I've played the game from the start and have three ships:

Asp Explorer (A Class fitted):

My mission runner because of the good jump range, also for checking out far out USSs that have very rare mats, and doing engineer runs for modules it has the right sized internal compartments for. Recently bought another one which I fitted purely for long distance exploration and did the 5000 lyr from start for Prof Palin requirement. Was going to keep it, but I'm not a fan of exploration. It's fun for a bit but takes way too long to scan and the money is just plain terrible for time invested.

A few low level mods, but have Increased FSD range, grade 5. May mod this to the hilt, as I'm tired of running away from interdictions from high ranked combat ships.

FDL (A Class fitted):

My only combat ship. I like the FDL and it handles Haz Res and conflict zones very well once modded up, but still is a bit too sluggish in the agility department for my tastes. I miss the Vulture and FAS for this reason. I prefer shield tanking and have been thinking of modding up a Vulture as a second combat ship to get that dogfight feeling back.

My FDL is modded to the hilt with mostly grade 5 mods. With 1850 shield strength class 4A SCBs are pretty much useless, but I still carry one to top up outside of combat, but really could get rid of it and not really notice. Would like to get overcharged mod for my class 4 MC, but those modified embedded firmware are hard to get.

Anaconda (A class fitted - except power plant):

A recent purchase for bulk trading, mining and future CGIs. Not too sure about this in combat, with all turrets for mining it can take any small and non combat medium ships on, but more than that it's time to get out of there. To get a proper combat fit would be very expensive, but I'm not sure if the money invested would be worth it since I have a FDL anyway.

No mods on except some left over lower grade SBs from my early mod attempts.

Corvette (Don't have):

I would love to get the Corvette for hardcore content like high sec bases + some assassination missions, and replace the anaconda but I'm 3 ranks away in fed, and it way too hard to rank up now.

I have 4 x Federal Corvettes (Combat, Trade, Mining, Passenger), 1 x Python (Material Gathering, USS and Planets), Asp Explorer (Taxi, Explorer), Diamondback Explorer (Fast Taxi), these are all engineered to grade 5, I'm just waiting for the Alliance Chieftain and I have all grade 5 modules stored and waiting.

Tried the Anaconda but just too slow for me. I have tried all the other ships and decided that the ones above are just perfect for the things that I like to do. The best combat ship for me is the Corvette, but it does have to be engineered, I have never lost a corvette in combat especially with my Hull Reinforcements (6) so I would highly recommend this ship and for all round performance and jack of all trades, The Python.

Anaconda because its the only ship in the game with a full damage model, and it pretty much does everything well - Great jump range, great cargo capacity, great armour, great in combat.
Asp Explorer because of the jump range and its a cheap ship
Cobra MkII because of its history in the game
Imperial Courier because theyre fast and cheap to replace, and they pack a punch for their size

There's no real reason to buy any other ship in the game really other than an Anaconda - It does everything

Asp Explorer: my current bubble taxi and futer rat ship, i love it so much.

Eagle MkII: My low stakes bounty hunting ship for I-Carinae runs

Cobra MkIII: My low rebuy mission runner in HIP 50506 runs

Type 6: My mission and delivery runner in Ceos/Sothis runs

Python "HAWK EYE" : because it can be used for anything. Ive used this ship for trading, mission running, and combat. Currently using as an explorer ship. (because the asp sounds like an old lawnmower that needs its spark plug changed and the Python gives that whole ship feel) The Python also takes better exploring screenshots than the asp.

The Cutter "WHITE DRAGON": Because it also can be used for anything. Ive used it for combat, mission running, passengers and trading. Currently being used as a cargo runner. Waiting for the new engineer system to upgrade for exploration. I used to have a clipper but with both ships being "large class" there is no reason to go back to the clipper

The Chieftain "FROG": Ive used this ship in beta and it is an awesome ship for combat. Because it is a medium ship. I will use it for some mission running as well. Currently: Was lost in the beta universe. FD please do not nerf the Chieftain!

My goal has always been to own one of every ship so that I could see what they all are like and fly any of them when the mood struck me. I don’t own them all yet, only the following:

Sidewinder
Hauler
Adder
Viper MkIII
Cobra MkIII
Cobra MkIV
Fer De Lance
Vulture
Eagle
Imperial Eagle
Imperia Courier
Imperial Clipper
Federal Gunship
Federal Assault Ship
Federal Dropship
Dolphin
Orca
Python
Type 6
Type 7
Type 9
Type 10
Keelback
Diamondback Explorer
Asp Explorer
Anaconda

Man, holy hell LOL. Still a few ships to buy yet, a couple of which are rank locked, some others which just don’t interest me but I will buy them in time.

Mostly though I only fly a very select few of those ships regularly, the rest just sit in spacedock and get taken out for the occasional jaunt. The ships I fly the most are:

DBX: my explorer
Asp X: my OLD explorer, but I still take it out now and then for nostalgia
Dolphin: my favorite ship for passenger sightseeing missions. I just love flying it, even though the Asp X can do it better
FDL: my preferred combat ship, although the T10 may be replacing it
Python: my miner, although the T10 might be replacing it
Type 9: my trader, ALTHOUGH the T10 might be replacing it!

This is a cool whats in the garage thread:D
I have both standard and imperial eagles because they are fast enough to gather high wakes.
Both Vipers because I just like them(ones faster but the other can jump).
Two Cobras because they can do a lot of work and jump very well.
The Python because its a great flight assist off UPS truck for deliveries.
The FLD just because it has teeth and delivers data well.
FAS because I just love it for almost everything and its a fast tank.
FGS because I store engineered modules in it
Python because it stores engineered modules in it.
Anaconda is really not a horrible combat exploration vessel but gathers dust with the other mission NERFED boats.
Corvette because its a joy for bounty hunting local systems.
Cutter because it can ferry passengers and kills everything with flight assist off( of yeah passenger missions NERFED), Stores modules now.
Diamond back explorer which explores and hunts MATS.
ASP explorer so exploration get a slight interior change from the long jumping Diamond back.
T10 for mining.
Adder for storage of modules.
Two imperial couriers but don't use them anymore(1 for data and one long range jumper but thats not very far)
One overcharged Vulture that runs local errands.
I find myself using the smaller boats again after the last NERF and enjoy them a bit more than I expected. Hope the new coming boats offer something usable because in my outside the bubble playground things are getting a bit boring.
Happy thoughts gang[big grin]

Sidewinder:
My original starter ship, I keep it for sentimental reasons.
I have another to farm Quince scan missions, I called it "The Glitch Abuser".

Imperial Eagle:
Because it's fast and cool. I use it to farm Datamined Wake Exceptions.

Eagle:
Because it's agile and cool. I use it for Skimmer / Generator missions.

Anaconda / Corvette / Cutter:

Generic PvE / mat farming / Solo trading

Python:
Mission runner.

ASP Explorer / DB Explorer:
Exploration, surface prospecting.

Imperial Clipper:
I have one specced for mining.

Viper:
My Viper runs 865 m/s. I use it to troll gankers.

Type-9 / Type-10:
Armored trasnports for CGs.

FdL / FAS / Vulture:

PvP.

Hauler / Adder:
Taxi ships.

That's it. All my ships are heavily engineered. The rest are for spare parts.

John Roberts (RP) is an itinerant fellow - he goes where he feels he is needed, but never stays long. He has only three ships, and he see's one of those as a sentimental indulgence (and rarely uses it). He refits what he has, to meet his needs of the day. He's collected a few modules, but unless he had some engineering work done on them, most often just sells then again when he's done. He cares little about material wealth. Those three ships?

An Asp Explorer, for when he doesn't want to be noticed, and a Corvette, for when he does.

The third? None of your business.

Type 9 - CG cargo hauler
Type 6 - quick hauler. With a 40ly jump, if I need to move 80t's or less quickly.
iCourier - local mission runner, particularly planetary scan missions
iEagle - experimental, toy
iClipper - miner, joy rider, multirole
DBX - Exploration and Bubble Taxi
Gunship - CG Bounty hunter, wing PvE
Assault ship - Daily driver, mission runner, wing PvE
FDL - PvP
Vulture - PvE

I currently have 17 ships but only use 3 or 4 of them. No doubles yet. I tried the T-10 during the beta with stored modules and had fun with it but I've not got around to buying it for real.

Imperial Collection:
Cutter.....Trader. Use it all the time and one of my favorite ships.
Clipper....Pirating. Haven't used it yet but engineering is pretty much done.
Courier...Speedster for wake scanning
Eagle.....Project and got it to complete the collection.

Mammal Collection:
Dolphin.....Transport. Don't use it much unfortunately
Orca....VIP sightseeing missions. Use it often. Another favorite
Beluga....Bulk passenger missions. Don't use it much especially since passenger missions are dead.

Federal Collection:
FAS.....Combat ship. Sometimes use it when I want something different from the Corvette.
FGS....Project ship. Got it because it was on sale and not touched it or even outfitted it. Collecting Dust
Corvette....Combat ship. Fun ship for PvE "easy mode". Another favorite ship.

Other Collection:
Adder.......Project I got just because. Not touched or outfitted. Collecting Dust.
DBX........Project that I got for air/ground skimmer shooting. Didn't work out first time I tried doing one of those missions
AspX.......Explorer ship. Use it all the time. Started out with a DBX and it did well but slow scooping. Hated using the Conda for exploring.
FDL.........Combat. Used to use it all the time. Not so much since I got the Corvette and FAS. Collecting Dust
Python.....Med Trading. But might outfit it for search and rescue or the random station rescue.
Conda......Great for moving modules to the engineers.
T-6.........My newest ship. Got it for material collecting in 3.0.....and missing a T ship since I sold the T-9.

Cobra MK3 - Main
DBS - Silent Running Combat
Dolphin - High Profile Passenger Missions
AspX - Solo Exploration
Python - Material Collector for engineers
Anaconda - Search & Rescue / Exploration

Hoo boy, let’s see if I can remember them all:

AspX: long-range explorer & taxi for getting from the Bubble to the Pleiades
Vulture: light PvE bounty hunting and Skimmer missions
Type-6: light transport
Fer-de-Lance: PvE bounty hunting & general fun. Also because it’s pretty
Python: cargo hauling and pretty much anything I feel like
Anaconda: my main battleship, used for any PvE combat, as well as short range exploration

Orca: Star Taxi. Local passenger missions and sightseeing (<8k Ly) missions.
Python: Atomic Eggplant II. Armed trader, general runabout in and out of the bubble. Occasional bounty hunting just for fun of it.
FDL: Stormbringer. Bounty hunting ship. Not useful for anything else. I may dump it. Again.
Corvette: The War Wagon. Armed trader, mission runner, and primary bounty hunting ship. I also enjoy short sightseeing trips inside and outside the bubble.

I'm most comfortable in my Python and Corvette. The others are occasional use ships.

Dolphin (4) - One for running out to the Ancient Ruins, One a dedicated Exploration craft, one for mid-level passenger hauling, one for caustic cargo hauling.
Orca (3) - One general mission running, one for mid-range passenger hauling, one for search and rescue operations.
