Newsletter suggests that we are not close to launch.

Uhm. Interpretation is a funny thing. The newsletter doesn't say anything about the release date not being near. It says we should keep our eyes on the forum and social media for the announcement, and Ed also posted this in the Crime and Punishment summery thread:

I'm hoping to do another post early next week with everything else summarised too!

For me that looks more like one summery for the rest of the Q1 features, and not like a topic a week or so.
Also I am all for waiting longer and receiving a nice and clean update. Rush has never been a good thing, and, as we all know, patience is a virtue. In my opinion an invaluable one.

If they release right immediately after the beta is bad, because they don't fix. If they release after a longer time it is bad, because then they introduce new bugs with the new code. The point is complaining, didn't you get the memo?

This is wrong, think again. Of course they should not release a buggy beta to live. they should fix the bugs and release a new beta. and then again. until the beta version is fine, and then directly release that beta to live without further changes.

what's so hard about that?

True, problem is that QA never spots all the bugs though.

It is not really a problem though, it is more of fact of life. Software *is* complex.

As for newsletter....they don't reveal dates till they are not locked down. It might be in two weeks, it might be in three weeks. Internal wrap up plus Sony/MS QA plus marketing.

What's a 'Newsletter'? Do you mean that SALESLETTER they keep coming up with each week? Why would they put news in that? Especially when they can put things for you to buy in it instead?

Nature of the beast I'm afraid and especially with big patches. E.g. Zenimax have just released *yet another* very buggy patch for Elder Scrolls Online, after a lengthy beta. (The patch they released last year completely broke the game for me).

Hopfully 3.0 bugs will be at a reasonable level, and further stability patches won't take too long to be released.

I am hopeful that it'll be released sometime next week. In the latest newsletter, I think Ed said he was going to bring out a summary outlining every other feature besides Crime and Punishment, so that could be an indicator that they are just fine tuning some things.

Just a note. The reason why the newsletter says "For now..." is simply that Ed compiled the list of all the C&P changes yesterday. He also said that early next week he will do the same for the other things (so I'd expect another long post for engineering on Mon or Tue). I'm not sure anything more than this is entailed by the newsletter's wording.

Maybe they have realised that they cannot afford to squander customer good will any more.

Several of the changes have garnered wither massive dislike by the player base or are not operating as intended.

From my perspective there is still no reason to come back and play the game. I cannot face the thought of grinding for engineers under either the current system or the new one. The planet gathering mechanic makes me want to vomit as it is migraine inducing.

So ... not a fan then? :)

I think it's a good idea for them to wait until they are sure they can launch it with as few bugs as possible (no software is bug free,) otherwise it does affect customer good will.

And the grind can get boring and make us want to play other games.

But I've been playing for half of the three years Elite has been on the market, and have never felt Frontier has done anything to garner my ill will or a massive dislike of them or the game.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the beige planet issue, and the lack of roles in Multi-crew, but that's neither ill will or massive dislike...?

Hit it Dave!

Can't people simply wait a week?
