PvP PSA about what it means when we say "Git Gud"

If these people were as good as they claim to be, then surely CQC, would be full of PvP players spitting testosterone at each other, because they have all 'got gud' ... instead they prefer seal clubbing[big grin][big grin]

No one plays cqc because it's a giant mess. I tried damn hard to like it, but match making issues killed it for me. Hours spent not being able to find any game type other than deathmatch, and being matched against the same high rank players each time turned me off. Not only that, arena style combat is exceptionally boring imo, open world PvP has a lot of variables going for it that just cannot be replicated in a duelist setting.

So you don't like it because the people there kills you, while in open you can kill others. Fair enough, cough

For the record, people plays CQC, even I do, level 12, and I saw people from level 1 to level 50.

Haha, you are narrow minded to say the least. I fly a shieldless Diamondback Scout in open, so I would hardly subscribe to the "seal clubber" crowd as you would describe it. It doesn't have an interdictor either, as I prefer to +1 on the side of silly gooses such as yourself who get into trouble in open... Assuming you don't get vapourised before I can drop in on your wake and try to save you. You are most welcome.

CQC is just not fun. That's its biggest problem. In this day and age of huge everything, arena based shooters are either perfected by e-sports companies or they fall flat on their faces. Guess what all of the successful franchises have going for them? Yup! Proper matchmaking. Oh, and also a reasonably fun game.

Perhaps you enjoy shooting everything that moves whilst flying through power up rings until someone hits a predetermined score limit?

I'd have played it more if CTF actually had players, but again, it was just deatmatch that ever got me matches.

While the OP does have a point, being that some users actually want people to get better at PvP to make it more fun for everyone involved (and as a consequence fewer whinge posts), the phrase in question is rarely, if ever used in the context the OP is describing. It is used to berate and mock, sometimes well deserved, other times just because.

Links and references to the previously mentioned Discords is a good idea, but it needs to come with a few caveats.
The first being; Leave #general as soon as you enter the Discord, unless you enjoy endless streams of "Oof", "No u", "Ree" and different spelling variations concerning the other party's sexual preference. Hang out too long in that channel, and you may feel the urge to take a long shower with a 100 grit wet sandpaper just to get rid of the dirty-feel.
The second is; Check out all the resource channels, see what is pinned, then hang out for a little bit to get a feel for the channels and the users answering and helping out. You can learn a lot by just reading up a bit and watching the ongoing discussions. Then ask any question you may have, and someone helpful is sure to step up.

And here's a PSA the other way around:
In all good communication, the sender needs to be aware of potential filters between the sender and the receiver. When there is a known reaction (ie. filter) to the usage of certain phrases (ie. Git Gud), the onus is on the sender to change the way he/she communicates to make sure the actual message gets across. The blame can never be placed on the receiving party for miscommunication, especially in known situations with commonly known reactions.
TL;DR: Use another phrase than Git Gud if you really want to help.

that is me gooses narrow minded almost 2 years ago. Come and show me again.

I didn't say griefer, that comes from your own mouth, I said you don't play because you can't stand losing. You ego answered before you.

See? I didn't mind losing, I didn't mind the shame of publishing, neither do I now.

Uhuh, you are splitting hairs now. You heavily implied my preference of getting easy kills.

Ok, I'll try again, hope I get it right this time.

Not correct. People plays cqc, and some people find things unfair others just enjoy as it is. It is not a mess.

I have nothing to say here, you are right about mostly DM games, and match making is really bad (specially since it is a ping based matchmaking). About you don't liking it that is ok for me.

and being matched against the same high rank players each time turned me off.

If you were matched against the people available then what is wrong with that. I have no idea, I'm not an expert, I get matched against level 50 and still make some frags here and there. I'm not wining any match.. so what? it is still fun (for me).

Not only that, arena style combat is exceptionally boring imo,

excuse me? 10 minutes of SCB spawning and jousting to see how the massive shields wear down then just before the 'enemy shields down' high wake is very interesting..

open world PvP has a lot of variables going for it that just cannot be replicated in a duelist setting.

So it is about the ship, not the pilot then.. but if it is about the ship, why being matched against high ranked pilots was so turning down for you?

GIT GUD (GÏT GÚD): Phrase, pejorative bile used by presumptive idiots who try to shoot down unarmed Type-9s and think they are decent pilots. Best ignored. CLog and watch them cry, then return in solo mode and go about the rest of your day.

If someone types "Git Gud scrub! Frickin' noob hahaha!" or similar then yeah, that's just a juvenile insult. But one of the most common practices on this forum is to shame anybody who dares tell you that you should in fact "get good" when you obviously do need to learn. I've lost track of how many people I've either seen or had tell me directly that I was just insulting them by pointing out that they were doing something wrong and offer to help.

I don't think telling someone they have more to learn is a bad thing, and I kind of expect well adjusted adults to be able to shrug off a little snark, anyway.

I rarely tell anyone to 'get good', but it would be really nice if some of them would stop going out of their way to do the most asinine crap possible and then blame the game when they find out the hard way that stupid doesn't always work.

CQC is just not fun.

I honestly enjoy CQC capture the flag.

Unfortunately, the last time I was able to get into a capture the flag match was during the original CQC beta back in 1.4.

Yup same here, after it launched all I could find were deathmatch games and they just weren't all that interesting. For arena style combat I play Mechwarrior Online, which has a much greater level of complexity that justifies the repetition of each match. I reckon CQC is worth saving, but I don't think the devs see it that way. The integration into the main game was a total disaster, no doubt spurred on by FD's apparent desire to sell a standalone product. The prestige system is pretty much all that connects CQC to the main game which is a shame really. Maybe they will add more game types for beyond? The ship has probably sailed.

That's a lotta text. Like I said in my reply above this one, if I'm playing an arena style game I do enjoy a bit of complexity, CQC is just a little too shallow in that regard. I'm a fan of CTF et al, but getting CTF games or even team deathmatch was really hard.

As for open PvP, a lot of my enjoyment if that is derived from how many unexpected interactions you can experience. Jousting is boring yes, but that's why I don't fly an iWin ship. I might fly half an hour without fighting anyone, just looking for a wanted player. It's all about the setup, man.

I expect adults to be able to string a sentence together. Plus since 'Git Gud' clearly has derogative connotations .... hang on ...

Dear Diary,

today I used the words "derogative connotations" in a sentence. And it's only just Monday. Should be some week.

Love,
Ziggy

and is more often used as dismissal instead of a suggestion to increase one's skills. "You should just Git Gud" is a sentiment that voices no constructive criticism. People who do offer constructive criticism usually don't resort to lazy 2 3 letter word dismissals.

Anyway, to me it signifies I am dealing with a person who has the wits of a caveman and displays the need to "get better" at communicating.

I'm the type of person that rarely insults people that are not my friends.
If someone hits me with a derogative comment, I take it a sign of affection and care. :p

You're obviously too dimwitted to understand the point I'm making.

*hugs* [heart] :D

edit: Crap, spoiler emoticons don't work. So much for that joke :(

If it takes as many words as displayed in the OP to clarify the meaning of a term, perhaps it's not the best term to use. It's like using an abbreviation which you have to explain.

More importantly:

From: know your memes
“Git Gud”, an intentional misspelling of the phrase “get good,” is an expression used to heckle inexperienced players or newbies in online video games

from: urban dictionary
Git Gud
1. A intentionally misspelled phrase meaning "get good." Generally used to pock fun at and mock inexperienced players in a particular video game.

So using the phrase will invoke the generally accepted meaning, rather than the evasive bollox in the OP.

There is a bit of a difference between:

"Git gud!"

and...

"So, sorry about killing you, but you did make a number of fundamental errors. Would you like to hear some tips on how to improve?"

Like there is a difference between :

"Why this griefer killed me for no reason ? I was unarmed while minding my own business ignoring how the game works and expecting the way i want to play the game would change its rules"

and...

"I got destroyed in seconds. Here is what happened, can you guys please help me to understand what i did wrong ?"
