Was away for a year - did any non-RP reason to fly anything but Cutter get added?

Planning to get back at playing E:D, so that's a serious question.

T-9 about to receive a cargo-carrying buff; T-10 battle cargo carrier introduced ..... both relatively cheap to run compared with a Cutter, but not as stylish.

And you may have to engineer your Cutter ;) There's a lot of uber-engineered weapons out there.

Nope.

Optimal progression is still Sidewinder -> Cobra -> Asp Exp -> Python (or Fdl if you're into combat) -> Anaconda -> Corvette/cutter

On the long run anything else is just a waste of money, time, or both.

Perhaps the OP should start with what are their non-RP reasons to fly a cutter?

As far as I can tell the reasons might be:
1) Your outlook on life is bleak, you see no fun in the future, and so you'd rather grind, grind, grind in the largest, least agile space-boat you can find?
2) You like having more shields than anybody else, so that when you die, it is s..l..o..w..l..y..?
3) You love loading up with weapons that you have no chance of swinging their aim onto any decent pilot with?
4) You just love life in the slow lane?
5) Me too! [because so many others have made the mistake of buying one - and are stubbornly sticking with their mistake]
6) You like top trumps, and this ship is top in every category except "fun" & agility & looks &...
7) You live for exploits - and the cutter is the exploit king. Anyone tells you: you can make 100m cr/hour - you know you can make 200m cr/hour in your cutter. Not that credits mean a thing. You've already got the most expensive ship and there is no way to win the game...
8) You just absolutely love mining without limpets, because you like a cargo-hatch with a challenge?

Now - I'm sure I've missed something...

Yes, fun and variety.

Variety? You know, it's like eating bad for fun and variety once you get bored of good food. I'd rather stick to best i can have instead. Fun? What's fun about other ships? I mean, conda has nice bridge view, courier has top speed. Anything else and not one trick pony?

Well, money is not an issue, it's just a tool to buy ships with. Now the cargo carrying buff might be interesting, how much will it hold? And yeah, i made the thread after looking at T-10. Srsly guys, t-10? Surprised there aren't any 100+ pages threads about it.

Yes, ion and reverb mines that split open Cutter shields allowing us to feast on their brains.

Eh, it's not like the other ships are immune against it. And once shields go down, brains go in, no matter the ship.

Still cannot land at Hutton Orbital.

Hm okay, makes sense! I'll have my python do the trick. Anything else?

Not sure why would you put a / between vette and cutter. Vette isn't really comparable to it, and i like my vette for rp reasons, but come on, did it get a buff or something?

Yes. Life. But seriously now, what about the passive agressive style? Did i hit a nerve or something? Try again properly?

The iCutter is a nice ship, but it's not the be all and end all.

Why not? Good weapons, top notch boost speed, huge cargo capacity, jump range that doesn't feel like sticking a fork into your hand, huge shields and hp. What else is there? Even the look is kinda nice.

Don't really know why you asked, as you've clearly already made your mind up.

I've made my mind up regarding the situation we had a year ago or so. So i asked to ask (welp): did anything change? New ships that are better? Buffs to other ships? Nerfs to cutter? Anything?

Whether a ships is better is down to personal opinion. I prefer my Cobra Mk3 over a Cutter any day. But that's me.

Yeah, but the OP wants to take the "RP" out of a video game where we get to play space pilots. And you're categorically wrong about the Cobra Mk3 - everyone knows the AspX is better.
