Curious - Your reaction to Cmdr Tony Curtis' Videos?

I don't see anything resembling even a vague shadow of intelligence in his video... But maybe this is the reason he only have 300 something subscribers, which is about the same number of views of his latest and greatest... :p

Stockholm Syndrome?

All in all much ado about nothing. If the OP point is that this behavior should not be tolerated, I agree. If it's about the videos, I'd say "Who cares?" Probably after this thread, the number of views will double, which is unfortunate...

Only these predisposed to enjoying his brand of activities would bother subscribing to such drivel... I sure as hell won't be!

No. Some players may push it a bit far at times, but I wouldn't want FD to bring the hammer down. I suppose my view (if any) is that players can do whatever they want so long as it's not causing others to feel they can only enjoy the game by going solo. I want open to be a thriving metropolis.

I've never really got the whole watching other people playing games live thing. Yeah, I might occasionally watch a structured video that provides insightful or interesting commentary about a game or industry-related issues (eg Jim Sterling or someone like that), or a video that provides hints, tips and tactics to improve your gameplay or get past a certain level/mission/part (if I'm really struggling), but that's about it. I'd rather just, you know, play the game myself. But maybe I'm just getting old :)

Pretty sure this is naming and shaming?

Are gloves off now for discussing famous combat loggers?

Nope, only when it suits 'the agenda', you know that!

Silly Powderpanic :D

I actually can't abide Jim Sterling. He just comes across as an unironically angry, entitled spoilt fanboy who's got his life priorities wrong.

Im in the same boat, I have only watched Jim Sterling twice and that was his stuff on SWBF. But yeah for me youtube is a tool for finding stuff, mainly its for music and game tips, or dev stream recaps. I did once watch HOTS for half an hour on twitch as the commentator` was a funny chap and it was a champ match, not that I have any intrest in epsorts think I was cooking so need a time filler.

Iam old (or so says the wife) I really dont get twtich, oh lets watch somone playing somthing..wait I own this game why am I not playing it. The mind boggles.

The game allows people to express actions that are morally questionable. Everyone's moral compass is different; and not everyone sees the game universe the same way.

I don't disagree with this statement...but I think you're elevating "Griefing" into something it isn't...

Moral Dilema's "in-game" would be something like "My minor faction is suffering loss of influence and there's a stack of Massacre Civilian Missions...do I take them/or not?" "Should I attack this systems Law Enforcement Ships in order to influence their system state" "I'm struggling for Money...should I take this mission smuggling slaves" Etc Etc...and all manner of other questions that the game can throw up...

I'm fairly sure someone living in their Parents basement deciding to seal-club a stock Sidewinder in a starter system in their G5 Engineered FDL isn't acting out of some kind of "Moral Ambiguity" are they?

He does come across like that at first glance and that did initially put me off as well. But behind the profanity, anger and bravado, Sterling makes articulate, intelligent, rational, well-researched and constructive arguments about the games and organisations he critiques. And he often balances his statements with counter-views and usually makes an effort to reach out to companies in order to give them a chance to present their side of the argument.

He generally attack organisations and their dodgy practices rather individuals. He’s also very intolerant of the abuse/harassment and threats directed at developers and a strong supporter of diversity — something for which he himself receives a lot of abuse for.

We actually need more people like Jim Sterling to counter the corporate-apologism of many mainstream gaming journalism outlets, or at least their seeming inability to ask difficult questions or take the industry to task for some of its shadier practices and often blatant lies.

Holy crap I’ve never seen the fun of a thread get sucked out so quickly. But I digress...

I don’t think too much of the ship builds or piloting of Tony Curtis, but I do really like his videos. I’ve watched many of them and they usually make me laugh. He brings a lot to the game, most notably in that any time I see him I
will drop everything to go try and kill him.

I am also a member of the Elite Dangerous streaming community and I have gone from being a victim of Tony to a admirer of his work and currently run in his wing.

Stockholm syndrome spotted! [yesnod]

Anyway, tbh OP just wanted to advertise for Tony's vids? I guess. Good work done, I am sure. Some greatly entertaining vids there.

Also I don't see what the point should be that is not seen here. I don't see the point of no point. Go figure, neh?

My opinion on T. Curtis vids is that while mildly amusing at times, they don't hold a candle to the Overlord's own productions.

Was watching some ED videos on YouTube yesterday.

Came across a raft of Cmdr Tony Curtis videos. Although he has clearly put a lot of effort into making them and they're amusing, I couldn't see the point. I mean, why deliberately cast yourself in such a bad light? Anyway, left me wondering what other players' thought of the videos? Bear in mind this is NOT a name and shame thread. You may like the videos, or the gameplay they portray, and that's fine. Perhaps he's a role model. Then again, you may not like them at all. Also valid.

Whatever you opinion, just keep it nice and mature. I'm more interested how others interpret the motive for the videos, rather than the gameplay as I (and you) do want yet another emotional thread about griefing. :)

I didn't find them amusing at all. The videos were amateurish with lots of spliced in content from tv shows and movies. I randomly sampled three and they were all a mess.

If others like him, fine. I'm done here, next...
