The update has obviously been cleared by Sony and MS, or a release date would not have been announced and the code cannot now be changed.
So why wait till the 27th when the update could be released this Thursday?

Maybe they don't want to release it on the day when powerplay is cycled? Most companies have a schedule and/or internal policy how and when things are released so everyone is onboard flipping the right switches. After all, they probably have to do a bunch of database updates in the background as well before they can drop the update. Just because we don't know the internal reasons doesn't mean that we somehow know they must be incompetent. They might have reasons that we're just not aware of.

As far as I know MS and Sony give out a window of release, these need to be on the same day if you want to release the update on all three platforms at the same time.
Luckily we have you with all knowledge of the ins and outs of certification and game releases to enlighten us.
