What's the iClipper good at?

Yeah basically.

There are better ships out there but they are way more expensive.

The only thing it's not as good at is combat. It's not a bad combatant, it just has not-so-good shields (it's a big ' target), not-so-good hardpoints (both number and placement), and the C6 distro while not bad is, well, not-so-good.

Otherwise it's fast, maneuverable, can hold quite a bit of cargo, and has basically only one drawback against a python, which I guess everyone knows about now and can be summarized with one character: "L".

I'd argue the Python would still spank it if it could land on a medium pad but it'd make the Iclipper good enough to make me consider it some more.

300 cargo? How? No shields?

Even without shields 248 is the absolute maximum capacity of the Imperial Clipper.

It's a perfectly OK small-scale mining ship, not bad as a low-grade passenger ship, but at the end of the day, it really doesn't have any special niche to fill.

Best pirate ship in the game:
- Faster than everything aside from enhanced thruster tiny ships. Nothing can run from it, while it can run from everything. I put DD5 thrusters on it and hit over 570 m/s. Nothing competes other than an Orca.
- Generous cargo capacity for picking up loot from big ships.
- Very agile for a ship it's size, including in supercruise. Can win interdictions with ease.

I was trying to be kind. Didn't want to outright shout "liar!"

Seems teh community consensus is as I thought, divided. I parked mine up at Ray Gateway. Maybe I'll piddle with it later.

I use mine as a "blockade runner".

DD5s, Mil Hull, 4A prismatic shield + 3 x SBs and an MRP.
Delivers around 200t of cargo at 550m/sec.

It's really just an RP thing but it's fun to do CGs in Open and the rebuy isn't too painful.

It's basically three times cheaper than a Python. So yeah the Python is better on most fronts ... which is unsurprising. I mean besides the fact that the Python is one of the most broken ship I've ever seen in any game.

Personally it's my go-to cruise ship. And it will probably be replaced by my Cutter for mat farming at some point but it's also a great mat farmer (esp. for USS spawned materials).

* Two times, besides, the bang for the buck of all ships gets worse and worse the better the ships you get. Its kind of like modules, A rated modules are incredibly expensive for their benefits but they are still better than anything.

By this argument, the Clipper seems to be a temporal ship, not something you'd keep in your hangar unless you have an emotional attachment on it.

My clipper has 500mj fast regen shields, 3600 hull points and boosts to 594m/s, what reason is there not to fly a clipper :)
Can be hard work with fa off though :p

If I want to trade I use a python.

Mine: early on, it was an excellent armed trader when my trade rank was still somewhere in the middle of the pack. Today, my Corvette and/or Anaconda perform this same role since my enemies are deadly or elite Anacondas almost exclusively now.

Later, it was my mining ship--but mining is kind of meh for me, so it's no longer a miner. Now, it's just a fun ship to take into resource zones. Not an uber combat ship, but it's certainly one of the most agile of the large ships as well as very speedy, and a joy to fly.

[Edit] Been doing a ton of smuggling missions lately in my.....T9. Probably should switch to my iClipper for that, huh?

Extreme basking

Indeed. I actually think of Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive" song when I get in my Imperial Clipper - just change the one line to "0 to 600/ms in 3.5"

I love using mine to fly around, detail map systems (in Bubble, for material gathering), and gather the mats.

Anyone else ever notice that the Imperial Clipper is the only (or only one I've noticed so far) that conceals it's SRV bay doors? I noticed that the other day when I looked straight up at it while "dismissing the ship." SRV bay doors extended, closed, and then a hull panel slid into place to conceal the SRV bay door portal. Now THAT is sexy.

The iClipper isn't much good at anything. I've bough one TWICE now and always just end up getting rid of it. If you are Ranked for a Cutter, than the Clipper makes no sense...

Now, if FDEV made it a MEDIUM size ship, it might very well be worthwhile...

The Clipper is very, very close to being great. Right now it's just a "good" ship, but once you've advanced past the T7/Clipper price point in trading it doesn't make sense to keep it, since it requires a large pad.

For combat it's fun, but not very useful. There are better options out there for the price tag. And since NPCs all come loaded with Chaff it's frustrating to use, since you're limited to two medium fixed.

It could have been a good thargoid hunting ship with it's high hull value, but it's absolutely terrible hardpoints prevent that. If it had two additional medium hardpoints we could talk, but as it stands it's not a good 'goid ship.

Basically, the standard opinion is:

If the Clipper could land on a medium pad, it'd be awesome.

If the Clipper had decent hardpoint placement, it'd be awesome.

If the Clipper had better jump range, it'd be awesome.

Dunno but my Python gets 3791 hull points and 965 mJ of bi-weave shields, although it gets behind in speed at 423 m/s boost.

Here I made a similar build of the Clipper and it's worse on DPS, shield strenght, stored shields (AKA SCBs), hull strenght, shield resistances and heat efficiency. The only redeeming aspects are speed and manuverability.

The clippy is very, very good, it's my ship of choice, but somehow it misses being great by a narrow margin.

The landing gear looks flimsy, it can be tricky to get the srv out from underneath, and the optional slots are somehow the wrong sizes, but it is still really worth the grind.
